Blue sky in between very squally showers here in East Sussex.

HerdyTheRedNosedHerdwick · 28/12/2013 11:16

Morning kitten.
Just to let you know how my journey from Cheshire to Cumbria went yesterday morning. It was awfully windy as we drove to up to Preston, then from there it was scary, and around Lancaster northwards it was absolutely horrid. I would be very reluctant to do such a drive ever again in similar conditions.
Arrived safely around 1pm.
Thanks for your advice this week.

To everyone without power, I hope you're soon back on.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 28/12/2013 11:41

Herdy, I'm really glad you made it safely.

Will be updating later with latest thoughts. Missed my early morning update due to not being able to persuade my body to get out of bed. Even my cat gave up trying to wake me up Blush and its put me really behind. Still some gales to come and lots of heavy rain. Cross channel ferries on the 30th and the 1st might be a little challenged.

Not sure about extreme gales. But haven't had time to look at anything other than GFS. Back late afternoon :)

Just had a lovely flight from Stansted to Belfast, so calm. But we are coming back early on New Year's Day which looks not great :(

met office warnings

I think the recent weather is making people jumpy. Mondays high winds do not look as bad as the recent storms. At the moment I'd estimate gusts up to 60mph (70mph on exposed western coasts) are looking most likely in the south, 40-50mph elsewhere. Heavy rain could be a problem but the Met office have highlighted the affected areas well. Up to an inch, maybe two over SW moors and the windward side of Scottish hills.

New Years Day does look like some gales may build again but there is a little discrepancy in wind strengths. GFS puts in a tight squeeze in isobars through East Anglia so its worth watching. More heavy rain by evening for many though.

Outlook remains very unsettled with gales and heavy rain. The next potential 'event' consistently comes out on GFS on the 7th Jan, so I'm keeping my eye on that one.

In the long range forecasts is the south (Herts/London) predicted any snow in the coming weeks?
Lovely and sunny here today.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 28/12/2013 17:58

Scripsi, only if you are a really optimistic sort of forecaster.

Hopefully we'll have some respite here after the high winds then. I need a chance to repair our roof before any snow arrives!

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 29/12/2013 09:46

The coming gales this week don't look comparatively too bad, gusting maybe to 60 along the S and W coast 40-50 elsewhere. Plenty of rain associated with them.

Fascinated to see the storm still there on the 6th/7th. In area wise it is huge! And some severe gales still being modelled.

Back from sunny dog walk and finished 2nd breakfast courseSmile.
Sun has melted the frost off the grass but not quite on the pavements.
That was a hard frost at just -1. We've had -1 before and no frost at all - very oddHmm

DameDeepRedBetty · 30/12/2013 08:10

It's really picked up in the last hour or so here. BettyCat took a long hard look through her cat flap but has just done her morning poop in her litter tray instead, and she's normally a massive fan of the sad little patch of the garden that was once where I grew mint. NE Wilts.

Helenagrace · 30/12/2013 08:30

It's pretty wild here on the West Sussex coast. Wind is a sort of constant low moan and the rain is hitting the windows hard.

I have to go to the north of Brighton this afternoon so I hope the A27 stays open.

SpottyTeacakes · 30/12/2013 09:19

Wet and windy here too Sad wish I didn't have to go out!

pumpkinsweetie · 30/12/2013 09:21

Windy & rainy here again, can't believe how up & down the weather is lately!

ChubbyKitty · 30/12/2013 09:22

Newark is wet and windy. It always happens on my bin day! The too of my fence is hanging too.

Might have to bring my sparkling wine in from the garden where it's chilling. I will cry over spilt Asti.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 30/12/2013 09:27

Wet and windy here too.

Just back from dog walk. It started raining but also the wind got up very gusty]hmm] SE 10 degrees.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 30/12/2013 10:23

We are going to the seaside this afternoon so I can enjoy the wind (which will be a lot calmer) and test out my new toy. dd is not amused.

South Hampshire here - very wet and windy and putting off the dump run but will have to go at some point!

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 30/12/2013 10:32

Once again I fear my rain gauge is going to underread as I can see all the rain just blowing past it.

The wine is safely inside you'll be pleased to know.

Bins have gone down.

Geckos48 · 30/12/2013 10:51

Am working tonight in salisbury very rurally until 9pm!

Not looking forward to it at all.

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 30/12/2013 11:50

Wet and windy here in the North West too.

Kitten - we're meant to be driving from the North West to Plymouth tomorrow and then driving back after tea on 1st Jan. The forecast for NYD doesn't sound promising. Do you think we should be thinking about doing the journey another time?
