Lights and TV flashing

AthelstaneTheUnready · 26/12/2013 23:46

Howling in north Cumbria - flashy lights and the tv signal has died. Cats most definitely not happy with the noise.

festivefrolics · 26/12/2013 23:47

Very wild & windy in the Irish Sea, nearly got blown off my feet taking the dog out for a piddle

Helenagrace · 26/12/2013 23:56

Raining hard here on the West Sussex coast. Not going to do the flooding much good. Not too windy at the moment so it won't move on quickly. This is not what we need!

BoJolly · 27/12/2013 00:01

North West here. The noise of the wind is terrible. I have come to bed but doubt whether I will sleep tonight. Worse is to come tomorrow but I think I would rather be out of the house than listening to it creak and rattle.

musicposy · 27/12/2013 00:01

kitten thank you as ever for all your advice Flowers

We're meant to be travelling from West Sussex (South coast) up to Edinburgh tomorrow. There's no rush except we ought to check into the dirt cheap travelodge hotel before it gets too late in the evening so I think we will wait until it is light. The roads north every way possible all have very wooded hills which quickly get impassable in bad weather. So I think we will head west to Southampton and go up country from there. Although the weather looks a little better if we don't go too far west, we have to go through the amber bit in the north of England one way or another.
I'm fed up with this rain. Our back door seriously leaks and I'm nervous leaving it, but DMum is in and out a good few times a day feeding the cat so will keep an eye. The river in our village has started running (winter and seasonal river), a little early - January is more usual. Started on Tuesday and within two days it had got pretty deep. It has flooded before, always when it starts running early, so that's a worrying sign too. We're only half a field from it.

OhBabyLilyMunster · 27/12/2013 00:15

Now very scary in barrow :(

TodaysAGoodDay · 27/12/2013 00:17

It's awful isn't it Munster? Sad

MillyChristmas · 27/12/2013 00:30

Very bad here in North Wales. Just driven to the nearest town 9 miles away and the rain is torrential. Then there are power lines out and darkness on roads. Trees down all over the place, a bath in the middle of the road (the type farmers use for water for animals). We had to make several detours as huge trees were falling onto roads. Took someone home then took the same road back and a tree had blocked the road in the 5 minutes since we had passed that bit. Luckily some poor farmer was out in the darkness desperately waving any traffic coming towards it.

JKSLtd · 27/12/2013 00:38

We are in a rare bit of no warnings. But the wind has picked up already.

Good luck everyone in the serious bits tonight.

BitScary · 27/12/2013 00:40

Really bloody scary where I am right now - west of ireland. Surely power will go before long...

ChubbyKitty · 27/12/2013 00:57

Wind is picking up really bad now. I thought it was thunder until it got more and more frequent!

Sounds like something just scraped the wall/roof? Hope it's not a tile fallen or something Hmm

moominleigh94 · 27/12/2013 01:13

Managed to keep power although we've had some scary moments with lights turning off for a few seconds and turning back on again. Sounds vicious out there, can hear the wind howling Sad

ElbowPrincess · 27/12/2013 02:38

winds are really bad here on the east coast of scotland,, I cant sleep because of all the banging and clattering Sad sky lit up purple and white a wee while ago, think a pylon went down Shock

octopusinasantasack · 27/12/2013 07:01

Can anybody tell me what it's like along the south coast please - Southampton, Christchurch, Bournemouth? Thanks.

ARealPickle · 27/12/2013 07:33

Bournemouth is currently very wet. But haven't been out side yet. ..

ARealPickle · 27/12/2013 07:34

Christchurch had quite bad flooding iford way (people evacuated Christmas day!)

digerd · 27/12/2013 07:38

SE
Heard it raining last night but no unusual wind. Temperature increased from 1 ro 9 .

octopusinasantasack · 27/12/2013 07:55

Pickle thanks, I heard about the flooding, I just wondered what it was like now and whether or not travelling around that area is OK or not.

ethelb · 27/12/2013 08:08

Just woken up in suffolk and windering where the storm is?

Sorry the rest of you are having a horrible time Confused

ReastieYuleANBU · 27/12/2013 08:11

In Kent here and very blustery. Had a power cut at 2am (I only know this as it set the blinking alarm off Angry ) but back on now.

musicposy · 27/12/2013 08:12

South coast is fine just on the Hants/ Sussex border.
About to head off to Scotland. Waited for daylight but it's not very light!

OhBabyLilyMunster · 27/12/2013 08:32

Still bad here in cumbria now

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 27/12/2013 08:44

Some torrential rain last night and still very wet. Caused me some anxiety at 4:30am

And unfortunately it's not good news forecast wise. Potentially another couple of inches Mon/tues in parts of the south.

South Essex very blustery last night and rainy. Seems to have died down now but still gloomy.
In laws are travelling down from North West today so I'm hoping they have a good trip.
