ha ha top winter bbq top is but extra charcoal at the end of the summer. dp had to chop loss with a kitchen knife chopper thingy. I thought he was mad to be honest but it worked. I shall be adding a few things to out power cut kit.I nearly cried when the battery power radio died (dp managed to fix it thankfully).BBC Surrey was keeping me sane.

denialandpanic · 26/12/2013 16:52

Arrggh top tip

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 26/12/2013 16:54

I think your post says top winter tip is buy extra charcoal at the end of summer and chop the turkey up?

I think that local radio stations are they lynchpin in these situations and its one of the reasons I'm against the government switching off fm as dab seems to take so much power where as a little fm radio can keep going for yonks.

Thanks kitten!

HerdyTheRedNosedHerdwick · 26/12/2013 17:13

Hi kitten, well you were right earlier in the week when I was asking about driving from south Cheshire to Cumbria tomorrow.

The drive normally takes me 2.5 hours. I have to be in Cumbria by 3pm. I've looked at it and can't see that I can avoid the storm whatever time I set off, because I can't go until after 7am, what do you think?

Cindy34 · 26/12/2013 17:32

Thanks Kitten, pity storms are not as simple as that.

Wish I knew how to read the charts, you must have spent years working it out.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 26/12/2013 17:43

Herdy, I dont think there is a way you can avoid it unfortunately, you are going to be travelling in the thick of it.

Cindy - its a work in progress Grin

torro have issued a convective discussion

Thanks kitten, that's what I'm thinking too, unfortunately. The journey is unavoidable. Will update tomorrow evening if I can .

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 26/12/2013 17:53

Geckos48 · 26/12/2013 18:06

Well having been able to avoid and hide away from the awful awful weather the last few days, I am working tomorrow night and it's looking nasty.

Not looking forward to that!

digerd · 26/12/2013 18:06

A brave neighbour of mine is driving from S.Herts to Dorset tomorrow to visit a 93 year-old. Will be staying the night and returning on Friday. She has done the journey before and normally takes her 2.5 hours with no hold ups. The news of a storm has not put her off going. Hope she gets there and back safely.

OhBabyLilyMunster · 26/12/2013 18:09

How far into cumbria are you going herdy? Shap is a bit of a mess by all accounts. When these winds hit they may close it

HerdyTheRedNosedHerdwick · 26/12/2013 19:01

LilyMunster I'll be heading to Keswick, but calling in at Staveley and Ambleside on the way, so off M6 at J36.
Am dreading it.

denialandpanic · 26/12/2013 20:04

aaah, dp chopped LOGS with his kitchen chopper. Sounds quite dodgy

festivefrolics · 26/12/2013 20:49

OP posts:
ARealPickle · 26/12/2013 21:24

We want to do Dorset to warminster tomorrow morning.

Should it be ok by 8/9am? It looks like the daytime is not-rain on some of the forecasts (although the met office rain warning is for the whole day)

PennySillin · 26/12/2013 21:25

DeepDame we are just down the road from you, it's blowing a hooley!

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 26/12/2013 21:30

Should be pickle, the rain is moving through quite quickly.
