Parents & brother nearly here - they decided to pick him up at the airport in the end.

No more family travelling until Saturday, phew.

A side wall on our road blew down overnight, bricks everywhere & looks terrible, but minor in the scheme of things I suppose.
Plus some huge firs down at the park - took the kids for a runaround earlier.

S.Herts
Haven't checked my back garden yet as rained again during the day.
3pm dog walk was definitely cooler wind. 6 degrees atm.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 17:55

I just notice my temp gauge: 5c here. That's nice, it means we wont boil our heads off when i light the woodburner like we did last night. I was so convinced we'd be without power like the last storm that I had it lit really early and we all roasted sat in t-shirts!

We are forecast to have 2 degrees in the night for the next 3 days and +5-6 max in the day.

CointreauVersial · 24/12/2013 19:34

Crap. The severe weather warning for Friday is slap bang across the Irish Sea.

If the ferries are running we shall all be looking like this: Envy

SpottyChristmasCakes · 24/12/2013 19:54

Had to abandon my car ten miles away so I could get home at lunch time. Road covered in water so deep even the 4x4s were flooding luckily my dad rescued me in his truck but we only just made it. All roads out of where I work were the same. It was horrendous and to top it off our power has only just come back on after almost 24 hours. All fridge freezer food has to be thrown. Been an awful 24 hours!

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 20:14

Welcome back spotty. I'm sorry that you had it so rough. I glad that you got back safely and you have power tonight. I hope that you can enjoy the rest of Christmas.

Thank you Smile it's bloody raining again Hmm

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 20:30

SpottyChristmasCakes · 24/12/2013 20:38

It's still running south from billingshurst/broadbridge Heath way so even without the extra rain there's more to come. It was pretty scary coming home Sad I feel so sorry for all the people near me who still don't have power I don't think there's much chance of it coming back for tomorrow. My mums still off Sad

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 20:40

I think it must have been pretty shocking today. Be gentle with yourself. Can your mum get to you?

SpottyChristmasCakes · 24/12/2013 20:45

Nope she lives the other side of the river, I mean road, oh no river Wink fx they get it back it's so shit. I'm off to my dad's tomorrow anyway. I can't speak to her though with no power/phone/mobile! At least they're safe Smile

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 20:52

Safe is the number one important thing :)

Has the storm been heading north slower than expected? It's been dire all day, but wind really picking up now. Thought Christmas day wouldn't be too bad, but
looking like another day of storm and rain.

Darkesteyes · 24/12/2013 21:46

On the uk power fb and twitter feeds ppl are starting to get pretty irate now and i cant really blame them

Darkesteyes · 24/12/2013 21:49

spotty im so sorry to hear about your situ and the fact that you have lost all your freezer food.

kaumana · 24/12/2013 21:50

Wind has started to pick up here in Edinburgh in the past hour.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 22:11

Oricella it's a west-east transverse of the main storm centre and yes it is slower than was forecast and will continue to be a problem for a while tomorrow.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 23:18

Fridays storm seems a little further south again bringing more of the UK into the firing line I'm afraid.

Might not to be able to forecast for the next couple of days as I'll be with family. So just in case, happy Christmas to you all.

thanks kitten and happy Christmas!

LadyFlumpalot · 24/12/2013 23:33

A303 flooded out at lunchtime today. Caught people off guard as the weather has been beautiful here. It's the Yeovilton to Ilminster stretch and the diversion is very badly marked. Just to give you all a heads up.

Merry Xmas one and all!

Cindy34 · 24/12/2013 23:37

Kitten, Have a great Christmas. Thanks for the weather updates.

Darkesteyes · 24/12/2013 23:43

Ok, Fridays system actually comes in late Thursday night into NI, so a little earlier. Unfortunately it looks a little further south too, bringing northern England and perhaps the north midlands into the main firing line on Friday. Gales for most, perhaps severe there but not as severe as Mondays/yesterday's storm (which is still affecting northern Scotland.)
Unfortunately there will be a lot of heavy rain associated with this storm, affecting the north and west but also those areas already flooded. The good news is is that the heavy rain isn't as prolonged.

Safe travelling everyone. I should be able to update tomorrow in the afternoon/evening sometime.
