Going to be an eventful few days. Have been discussing it in te Christmas weather thread but I think they need highlighting. met office warnings

Met office was spot on in my location. 70mph, a little down on the last storm, but I wasn't in the firing line for the worst.

Looks like the SE coast scrapped into the 70s too. Need to check that but perhaps overall gust speed wasn't quite so high as last time.

is that on the main met site.

i am keeping fingers crossed for Friday morning for flights into exeter from France.

the airport was open yesterday too.

piratecat · 24/12/2013 06:51

what did it give for south Devon. very southSmile

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:51

It is. On the weather page scroll down to the bottom. On the rhs there is a link 'surface observations'

74mph at Plymouth is the nearest I could spot at 11pm.

If I wasnt a polite person this would be a sweary post. New stupid low pressure threatens the south and east in the early hours of Monday. For pities sake!

scroll to 8am on the satellite imagery. It isnt by any definition a hurricane but with a bit of imagination it rather looks like one with almost an eye at the centre.

Its going to be a difficult commute with main train services not resuming til 10am while they clear the tracks.

Mumsnetters, the 303 is blocked. Avoid! Motorway seems like a good idea....

LadyFlumpalot · 24/12/2013 07:40

Hester - wheraabouts?

JKSLtd · 24/12/2013 08:05

Last night certainly sounded worse than st Jude for me in essex.

Waiting for the day to properly start to see if parents & brother can manage their journeys today.

Think getting from heathrow to essex may be a challenge!

kitten could I have some advice please. My in laws were supposed to be coming to us in central belt Scotland for Christmas. They live in Essex. They cancelled yesterday because they didn't want to drive in the bad weather and couldn't leave earlier than today. I'm considering suggesting that we go there for new year and was just wondering if there's likely to be enough if a break in these storms for us to get there and back ok.

runnervt · 24/12/2013 08:07

Meant to add thank you! Xmas Smile

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 24/12/2013 08:12

Someone put their bin out last night so our road is covered in rubbish now.

I have just been in the garden and two fence panels are down and smashed. Will have no chance of keeping the cats from visiting the easy to access garden and I doubt the neighbours will be happy about that.

HesterShaw · 24/12/2013 08:32

Flumpalot, several places in Wiltshire. Lorries across road, crashes, trees blown down.

ethelb · 24/12/2013 08:40

Our nice new fence got flattened last night! Plus no sleep ahead of a potentially awful day of travelling! Shock

Perihelion · 24/12/2013 08:50

Yellow snow warning now for almost all of Scotland today, along with the wind warnings.

coffeeinbed · 24/12/2013 08:56

Yellow snow doesn't sound too good!
Bloody dogs!
Grin
Sorry….

GloriaSmud · 24/12/2013 08:57

I posted about the Guardian's live blog yesterday but thought it might be worthwhile posting the link again as it seems to be more up to date and have more information than the BBC one. Looks like there are major problems at Gatwick at the moment as they've had a power failure in the north terminal.

Hope everyone's OK and that those facing the storm in the north of the UK keep safe.

HerdyTheRedNosedHerdwick · 24/12/2013 09:15

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Friday morning, certainly not relishing the drive from Cheshire to Cumbria.

Perihelion · 24/12/2013 10:07

Don't eat yellow snow! Grin

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 10:21

runner, potentially yes. Though it might change! At the moment Sunday looks ok, as does New Years day and the 2nd. Some of the other storms might not be as horrid as this one and friday, but hard to tell at this point.
