Wooly I would definitely take the wreath off the door it will drive you mad overnight!

Belize · 24/12/2013 01:34

Yes extremely windy. Can't believe that the gusts are only 35mph, god only knows what gusts of 80-90 mph must feel like Shock!

Feels slightly less nutty than 10 mins ago but only marginally..

StairsInTheNight · 24/12/2013 01:36

Can't believe I missed this whole giant storm thing, not seem news or weather. Just woken up and windows are shaking here in London.

So obviously the first thing I did was come on MN to find out what the hell was going on! Storm! Bloody amber warnings!

Belize · 24/12/2013 01:37

Ah yes there were many warnings Grin!

MyNameIsWinkly · 24/12/2013 01:40

I can't sleep with this racket. I am bricking it now, because we're booked on a flight from Stansted at 4pm. Will it go? Will I feel like we're about to crash and die?

MackerelOfFact · 24/12/2013 01:50

Crikey, South London here and it has been WILD for hours now. Just had to go and retrieve my metal dustbin from halfway up the road as it was making an almighty racket as it made a bid for freedom. I think next door have lost the low fence from their front garden, and earlier my closed front door blew itself open!

DP moved out last weekend and had just about got my head around Christmas being weird and different, but I'm bloody terrified being here by myself in this.

DazR · 24/12/2013 02:08

You are not alone mackerel we are with you! West Sussex taking a hammering too......

MackerelOfFact · 24/12/2013 02:17

Aww thanks Daz. It does seem to be calming down now actually. I just want to sleep!

ChubbyKitty · 24/12/2013 02:25

My lights have been flickering a few times tonight. Doesn't normally get us this bad so this doesn't look good. Getting phones charged as we speak just in case Confused

Madamecastafiore · 24/12/2013 02:32

Oooohhhh DH up in town and just me and DCs at home. Wondering whether to get matches and candles from downstairs just in case.

Think we have lightening here. Or is new Paco Rabane advert ??

DameDeepRedBetty · 24/12/2013 03:02

Have been woken by the wind again, it had died down but then started again. Some more of the house fell off this afternoon Sad.

Just to say Kitten you were spot on, at least I was able to rejig plans to avoid being out and about much today.

MiniMonty · 24/12/2013 03:25

Get a kite - you live once.

pumpkinsweetie · 24/12/2013 03:38

South East here & the wind has been will for hours, can hear howling of the wind outside and keep waking up!
This sounds a lot worse than the storm last month.

DameDeepRedBetty · 24/12/2013 04:07

Wind has died down now (Wilts) but still raining. Might try going back to bed.

Fingers crossed for everyone still in the storm.

LadyFlumpalot · 24/12/2013 05:24

Up feeding DD and it is completely still out there. The silence is really deep - It's always quiet here, but not normally this quiet.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:24

Morning all. It suddenly died down here too a while ago. Dunno how much use I'll be to you all today as a conspiracy of things has led to very little sleep and I have a very busy day. Typing one fingered under the covers so dh can sleep.

I really feel for those of you in the NW with an awful 24 hours to come.

piratecat · 24/12/2013 06:26

Devon

very quiet. i can hear the birds talking about itSmile

hope everyone is ok.

piratecat · 24/12/2013 06:28

morning oybbk

you've helped everyone. did you have alot of damage in the storm?

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:29

Must be grim in NI right now. The very worst will be in NW and n Scotland about midnight tonight. Gusting 90mph I should think. Calming down by late am tomorrow.

OP posts:
piratecat · 24/12/2013 06:31

blimey. so it's working its way north or is this another big lot.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:31

I'm pretty sure our house is ok, I'm not sure about my other concerns (sorry to be cryptic) I'll check when it's light. How about you?

OP posts:
OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:34

The south suffered from a frontal wave and a squeeze in isobars around the warm front too part of the very nasty storm that is starting to hit up north. It's a very big, nasty storm.

OP posts:
piratecat · 24/12/2013 06:37

ok.
hope you are ok on the cryptic bit.

all is well here. though my ex may not make it down to see dd as lots of flooding and trees down in his area.

yet could have cleared by this morning.

do you think the storm last night was worse than the one we had a few weeks ago? x

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:38

Still some question marks over Friday. GFS develops the storm most taking severe gales over much of Scotland and northern England. ECMWF and UKMO thankfully seem to be less developmental with lesser gales.

OP posts:
OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 24/12/2013 06:39

I do think it was, the st Jude's storm seemed short and sharp in comparison. Need to check the data though. Certainly this one has hugely more flooding associated with it.
