It's blowing a hoolie, pouring with rain and lots of surface water.

DH had refused to see sense so we are on route on the M5 north from, Exeter.

There was a lull at about 6.30 when we left. The question for you kitten is: have we caught up the storm in front, or have we been overtaken by the weather behind?

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 19:59

Hamlets - I think you could see 90mph. Sorry.

DD nearly got blown over on trip to chip shop on Deal Seafront. Luckily DH had hold of her. Fish and chips were lovely. And mr Sainsbury made it in one piece. At least we don't have to go out til Boxing Day now. Watching the news I am glad we travelled early today. Looks horrendous for some people Sad Friends in the villages near Sandwich have no power.

phantomnamechanger · 23/12/2013 20:19

Porto - we've sat on deal pier in the summer eating ice cream and its been windy & cold, dread to think what its like there tonight!

TheGhostOfPortoPast · 23/12/2013 20:27

DH suggested going out to the pub! Sod that. We are staying put in our lovely rental cottage with wine and the fire on.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 20:32

Very sensible Porto as it is due to get worse.

Wiiiiiindy! How's Saturday looking? My dads got a shoot but I'm sure that all the pheasants will have blown away HmmGrin

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 20:38

Fridays storm looks likely to last through much of Saturday. Main question I think is position.

Am pinned to sofa by two cats who normally fight so typing is a little restricted.

M sitting here I'm ds1's bedroom as he won't sleep. The wind is howling round the house, I can feel the house shake in this room as it's on the corner. It has a sloping roof too so no getting away from every creak and bang and wail.

We're getting the full brunt of the wind straight up from dungeness.

I don't like it Xmas Sad

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 20:51

Hang in there Pascha - why dont you make a snuggly nest downstairs for your ds, it could be a long night and you both might feel safer down there.

Even louder wind now. Eek.

lunatrick · 23/12/2013 21:09

Very windy here in Ramsgate. Am in a 13th floor flat and can feel it swaying! The christmas tree is wobbling, as are the hanging decorations. The whole place is vibrating. The wind is blowing rain in through the seals on the windows - already had to replace one soaked tea towel on the kitchen window sill. I'm sure my ears were threatening to pop while I was standing up.

Cat is getting spooked by it and often her tail goes bog brush style Xmas Grin.

I'm snuggled on the sofa with my slanket, dreading going to bed and being kept awake by this when I have a 5am start tomorrow!

festivefrolics · 23/12/2013 21:11

Hamlets sister, nice to hear from another islander :) we are way south of you & due to get a pasting tomorrow :( I would assume you will have no power & to cook your xmas dinner early. Although, do you actually have what you need for dinner with no boats going??? I'm making raspberry jam tarts instead of mince pies for xmas day due to there being nothing in the shops....

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 23/12/2013 21:17

Wind seems to be picking up now.

lunatrick that sounds terrifying. Shock

Going to Deal tomorrow was our plan B, think we will just sit tight and do some baking instead.

LadyCelia · 23/12/2013 21:19

My house feels like it's shaking too, and the fire keeps blowing smoke through the house, grrr. DS is not settling either, we've Allplassed the old windows to keep the draughts out but the noise it is making from the wind is so loud and keeps waking him up.

And DH is a nob, he's gone from deepest Surrey to N London to watch the football this evening, god knows how he will get home with SW trains in their current state.

PaschasDanglyReindeerBaubles · 23/12/2013 21:27

He went to sleep! I fully expect him to wake again soon though. We have had a couple of power dropouts, just a few seconds so torches are at the ready. We will all sleep together in our bedroom if needs be.

Sounds like all of us around the Kent coast are feeling it badly.

GloriaSmud · 23/12/2013 21:27

Wind eased off here (Leicester) around 4pm with our top wind gust being 30mph at 12.16. Wind's started getting up again in the last hour and the pressure is falling again ~ 975.3 at the moment.

DH arrived home at 1pm saying that despite the weather, his boss had just left to travel down to the Isle of Wight to pick his mother (or MIL) up and was expecting to travel back to Leicester, ready for work tomorrow.

TheGhostOfPortoPast · 23/12/2013 21:29

In Deal it is definitely getting worse. Lunatrick that DOES sound scary Sad

lunatrick · 23/12/2013 21:29

It is rather unnerving, but fascinating at the same time. It's the worst we've known it in the few years we've lived here. Even DH keeps saying 'woah, did you feel that?' He spent a few minutes watching the tea in his mug on the floor rippling!

We're just across the bay from Deal and Sandwich Xmas Smile

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 23/12/2013 21:37

I'm in Sandwich. Xmas Grin

Waves across the water to lunatrick

oldsilver · 23/12/2013 21:41

After the lull comes the storm ... it is positively roaring out there again after calming down this afternoon (only a 3/4 hour wait to see Father Christmas and as DS is going to be 8 on the 25th so I don't think he'll want to go next year).

I'm waving back from my lounge window Xmas Grin

In danger of getting hypnotised by the swaying baubles on the christmas tree and the cat is hiding behind DH!

OneStepCloser · 23/12/2013 21:52

Waving to all East Kent (Thanet) people (luna that sounds really scary!), its really bad out there, watching the bushes in the front garden looking like they might take off in a minute. Ive already seen one street light down earlier and theres one staring at me on the pavement, hoping he stays there and not comes through my window in the night Shock DD, 19, was blown over coming out of Tescos at Westward X earlier, luckly she held onto the trolley and didnt lose my christmas shopping Grin

curlew · 23/12/2013 21:55

It's incredibly windy here near Sittingbourne- worse than the gale we were supposed to have had a few weeks ago.....
