looks like I will be getting very similar windspeeds. We've postponed our early morning 'meat dash' because a) it will give thhem time to clear up the trees and b)I'm going to be knackered from admiring the wind.

BoJelly - I just tried to find out wind speed but can't work out where the link is. Can you help please?

DH home safe.

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 23/12/2013 17:39

I have found it. 60 mph atm.

pepperrabbit · 23/12/2013 17:44

Just got back from collecting Dh and the bedraggled DCs from the station. Train was very late so DH texted me when they were at the next station so I could set off - and there's a tree down directly in my path... So a 10 minute round trip took 40mins.
Very dangerous with all the trees down in the dark Sad

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 17:46

Well done for getting them back ok pepper - was your dh suitably contrite?

OP posts:
BoJolly · 23/12/2013 17:49

Wow Toffee - 60mph!! Shock

It's gone quite calm here now. I know we haven't had anything as like as bad as other people but I still find the wind very scary.

pepperrabbit · 23/12/2013 17:50

Not noticeably!
But he has offered to go out and get me a takeaway later as he had loads of food at work - so that may count as contrite in his head Grin

Perihelion · 23/12/2013 17:53

Am over admiring the wind now.......although did go "ooh a South Easterly" when I was out today.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 17:54

You get to pick everything he orders for sure!

OP posts:
TheGreatHunt · 23/12/2013 18:00

Well 70mph means I'm not sleeping in our attic room tonight!!!!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 23/12/2013 18:03

Sad 2 people have died.

pigleychez · 23/12/2013 18:10

A very gusty Kent here.

VERY blowy. Poor DH is on his way home on a very slow train then has to cycle home! :( I'd offer to collect him from the station but cant get his bike in the car with the kids too. Looks like he will be pushing it home.

On a plus note hes decided to work from home tomorrow to save dealing with the trains in the morning. The girls are really excited so not sure how much work he will actually get done though! :)

The wind sounds really scary out there. Quite paranoid about the patio furniture coming in through the bi fold doors Shock

mummylin2495 · 23/12/2013 18:35

How sad toffeewhat has happened. Poor poor families too

festivefrolics · 23/12/2013 18:41

Very windy in Irish Sea area, we have storm force 10 winds on the forecast tomorrow. No ice skating for my DD's :( 60 - 70 mph wind we can cope with, we are expected to get 80+mph tomorrow. No boats sailing from now until xmas day, could be interesting as people struggle to make their Christmas dinner without all the stuff they have ordered... Turkey on Boxing Day anyone??? :)

phantomnamechanger · 23/12/2013 18:42

pigley we're in kent too - DH usual train didn't leave Canterbury due to tree on the line, so he got the bus, got half way home, tree on road. Is now too late to collect the car from being serviced so will have to get it tomorrow, meaning I don't know when I will do the last minute grocery shop which I was hoping to do either 11pm or 6am. He may miss his connecting bus home too and have a long walk home! Also worried about people we know travelling long distances for xmas today. It's so windy the kids are scared Sad, and they're not littlies.

getdownshep · 23/12/2013 18:44

Aah my dd is travelling from London Waterloo to West Sussex, I'm so worried Sad, god know what time she will get here.

HamletsSister · 23/12/2013 18:49

How bad for Mallaig tomorrow? We regularly get to 80mph winds without bother but more and we, inevitably lose power. Should we eat our Christmas Eve dinner early? Nightmare!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 23/12/2013 18:50

mummylin - 2 people blown separately into the sea and a river.

busylizzie76 · 23/12/2013 18:58

Just got stuck on the road home - massive tree down....got home to find large tree down in front garden....luckily nowhere near house......river out the back is rather close to the house thoughBlush ..I've got the candles and wine at the ready

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 23/12/2013 19:12

Tis mighty blowy in Kent Pigleychez and Phantom

I was taking dd to Westward Chaos tomorrow which involves getting a train to Ramsgate then a bus. Might give that a miss.

ElbowPrincess · 23/12/2013 19:17

Hello there Lumpy Wink

I think we are in for it up here tomorrow, luckily I can hibernate until after Christmas!

Quieter here for a little time, so took a breather to be with my family. Seems that a secondary centre is forming in this system which unfortunately means strong winds further south in scotland and maybe into northern england. Its still a really nasty beast.

Kitten, I'm keeping my eye on Friday's storm. We're due to go to the Outlaws in East Lancs in Saturday. MIL never ever watches a weather forecast (she's planned a familg Bbq for at a weeks notice based on the fact "it's nice now"). So if travel plans could be disrupted cancelled, I should probably start making sounds about it now before they get the meat out of the freezer.

OhYouMerryLittleKitten · 23/12/2013 19:55

look at the SWtrains website
not good for those trying to get home.
