Another severe storm 2nd/3rd November?

Quite possible I'm afraid.

Very early days in forecasting land but it has been showing in the models for a couple of days already.

GFS takes a deep low across northern scotland which would bring gales (severe??) to southern Scotland and northern England.

ECMWF and UKMO have it less deep but further south and not causing nearly so many issues.

NAVGEM brings possibly severe gales to England

GFS spotted last nights storm very early on and actually wasnt a bad forecast. We need to keep an eye on the situation.

Just posted on another thread, calmer now here (S.Wales). We had 89mph winds at 4pm. DD chose today to travel home from Aberystwyth and just made it home before the railway line was closed due to flooding. She tok some amazing video of the sea just feet away from the train.

bigwellylittlewelly · 02/11/2013 23:23

Very very windy in north norfolk, seems much louder and harder than last weekend.

Re "the thing that changes every 14momths" has someone got mixed up with the NAO - North Atlantic Oscillation?

QuintesKabooom · 02/11/2013 23:23

sorry to hear about your burn. Hopefully you wont have to revisit the hospital "next door"!

It has felt more windy that last weekend, in London this evening.

Chubfuddler · 02/11/2013 23:24

I was only thinking earlier that the weather felt worse this evening than it did on Monday.

aGnotherGnu · 02/11/2013 23:28

Very gusty on the Wirral. I think there was hail earlier by the sound but I couldn't actually look at the time (bathing children). Lots of rain.

Lit the open fire, and smoke gusted back down the chimney and into the room a few times- that doesn't happen often

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 23:29

Quintes am sure it won't come to that :) I think it's one of those things that hurts stupidly out of proportion. Feeling more rational now that its calmed down.

Maybe bigwelly, if only it were more predictable than that but it does sound plausible. Good thinking!

Bestiswest, that must be some video Shock

Kitten wrap burn in cling film. It should stop hurting when you stop the air getting to it.

TwllBach · 02/11/2013 23:33

I'm N.wales here and the wind is terrifying! I wish I could be bothered to go and look at the sea, I bet it looks fantastic.

Audilover · 02/11/2013 23:34

We're in Somerset and we're having far worse weather tonight than we had last weekend.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 23:40

Storm is worse in different areas from last time :)

We've had hail, rain, thunder and some pretty impressive lightning here tonight! I'm in North Yorkshire, but on the coast. Not too far from York. It's stopped raining for the moment, but its still very windy. I was shopping when the worst of the storm hit and was actually quite scared!!

ethelb · 02/11/2013 23:57

Its interesting people are saying it is windier than last weekend in London. It really isnt here. V gusty but nothung on last monday morning! Either we had it bad then or good now!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 03/11/2013 06:45

Still going on here in Somerset, torrential rain and hail and very windy. Worse than last weekend as others have said.

digerd · 03/11/2013 07:34

S.Herts
Clear sky in the night , 5 degrees. Calm. Didn't hear anymore winds or rain since the hour yesterday 1.30-2.30pm.

Last Monday it lasted only an hour too - all very unusual

digerd · 03/11/2013 07:42

Now it looks like clouds are arriving from the south. Better take dog out before your Somerset weather arrives here.

Mckayz · 03/11/2013 08:07

It's still a bit windy here. But lovely blue sky.

We do have a large bag in the garden, like the ones builders have sand etc in. Will have to see if I can find its home.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 08:29

Squally showers for you Bill becoming more persistent rain later I'm afraid.

Back from dog walk and clouds in the south all gone. Brisk cold wind but very refreshing and a brilliant blue sky and sunshine atm.
Bill
Hope your awful weather soon improves.

mummylin2495 · 03/11/2013 08:46

Woke to lovely sunny morning , but already clouding over in Dorset

mummylin2495 · 03/11/2013 09:10

Clouds have gone over and it is a beautiful sunny morning here

BillStickersIsInnocent · 03/11/2013 09:35

Thanks OYBBK - it's pretty dramatic!

JemimaMuddledUp · 03/11/2013 09:50

I'm near Aber too shining

Looking much calmer now, although it is still windy and I gather a bit of a mess in town where the sea flooded in. Sky still looks dark and menacing.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 12:21

I'm afraid that this evening there are more gales and heavy rain expected along the south coast :(

Tuesday looks blowy too.

As for next weekend - another stormy outlook!

mummylin2495 · 03/11/2013 12:27

As far down south as Bournemouth kitten ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 14:45

For which time mummylin? Yes to all at the moment!
