Another severe storm 2nd/3rd November?

Quite possible I'm afraid.

Very early days in forecasting land but it has been showing in the models for a couple of days already.

GFS takes a deep low across northern scotland which would bring gales (severe??) to southern Scotland and northern England.

ECMWF and UKMO have it less deep but further south and not causing nearly so many issues.

NAVGEM brings possibly severe gales to England

GFS spotted last nights storm very early on and actually wasnt a bad forecast. We need to keep an eye on the situation.

Thunder. Flickery lights now

Snow to finish us off?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 21:46

Vaseline was my second attempt at curing it Grin

I've got through gallons of cold water, a brandy wipe, milk, two lots of Vaseline, cortisone, paracetamol, voltarol gel, some wine.

I've nearly melted my ice pack but it helps. Onto whiskey applied internally. I'll never sleep if this continues, it's as bad a pain as the burn that landed me at the burns unit.

Back to weather stuff when I'm not quite so agonised! Plenty more to come this week I think.

They had the waves over the tall houses on the sea front in Aber when I was a child. Amazing pictures on the local news back then.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 21:48

Theincidental not tonight unless you are on hills in northern Scotland.
I don't think anyone predicted quite so much convective activity. I've had a glance at the weather boards and not very much mention.

Sounds windy here. (West mids) but there are fireworks all over and I'm curled up in front of the fire with dh watching pirates of the carribean. I shall report any stormy damage.

ethelb · 02/11/2013 21:49

Ive commented on your chilli thread !

ethelb · 02/11/2013 21:50

V windy in sw london. No rain though. When is that happening?

ChippingInLovesAGoodBang · 02/11/2013 21:55

:( that sounds nasty!! DH's job next time Grin

I'm glad the fireworks event didn't end up in a fire (probably a good thing we've had so much rain!!)

& Wine

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 22:02

Not stopped raining all evening, our garden looks like a swimming pool, winds are still strong too....just as well we are the highest part of Manchester otherwise we could be flooded.....feel for anyone who gets it bad though!

NorthernLurker · 02/11/2013 22:18

5.30 tonight near Boroughbridge, North Yorks - major gusts, thunder and lightening, rain and huge drifts of hail!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 22:24

Northernlurker I'd like to hear more about your hail, is it an enormous amount of little hail or larger hail? How deep is it?

My sister says that she watched Llandudno fireworks whilst sitting in the car. Very wet, rather windy there.

Wonder if it will get as much news attention as last weeks storm?

1leggedwobbler · 02/11/2013 22:32

Irish Sea reporting in. On the fence panel scale (served us well for many years) it is a F7 atm but with up to F9 gusts easily. Stove lit & blankets ready.

BillStickersIsInnocent · 02/11/2013 22:32

Thunder and lightening in Somerset at the moment, very heavy rain. Lights went out too.

NorthernLurker · 02/11/2013 22:33

Ok dh saw it rather than me - I was in York and we had gusts and some rain on the north side of York but no hail.

Dh reports - pretty big hail stones - maybe a couple of cm across and at least a couple of inches deep. The accompanying winds blew over a gazebo and a BBQ (lit but soon extinguished). It was our church fireworks party - basically cancelled Sad

Mckayz · 02/11/2013 22:38

We had huge hail too. Just up the road from York. I was worried for the kitchen window at one point. The noise was horrendous.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 22:43

Cinch I don't think so because its not going to have had as wide an effect, it wasn't as severe.

Northenlurker, that's quite a lot of hail for an autumn storm.

It is a bummer for its timing though.

duckyfuzz · 02/11/2013 22:45

Kitten we had small hail, it covered the lawn within a minute then stopped. Further north than nl and about an hour earlier in the day.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 22:48

It's been an active weather system!

OP posts:
leesmum · 02/11/2013 22:59

Kitten put butter/marg on your hands then cover in clingfilm or sandwich bag, I work in a bakery and have done this a few times...even though you haven't been "burnt" it should ease the pain x

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 23:10

I have olive oil on at the moment. It's coming back but oh the blessed relief!

OP posts:
leesmum · 02/11/2013 23:14

Yes olive oil is just as good, try to keep your hands out of cold water...it will set it off again!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 23:15

Will do. Save my shower til tomorrow!
