Another severe storm 2nd/3rd November?

Quite possible I'm afraid.

Very early days in forecasting land but it has been showing in the models for a couple of days already.

GFS takes a deep low across northern scotland which would bring gales (severe??) to southern Scotland and northern England.

ECMWF and UKMO have it less deep but further south and not causing nearly so many issues.

NAVGEM brings possibly severe gales to England

GFS spotted last nights storm very early on and actually wasnt a bad forecast. We need to keep an eye on the situation.

It's not been as strong as Mondays storm which saw inland gusts of 78mph and had a lot more homes without power. Nevertheless it has certainly been a nasty storm. I think the met office missed a bit of a trick on this one - warnings were too little too late, given the storm has been on the cards all week.

It was a bit exciting chipping - a few trees got a bit tangled up with fireworks and I couldnt watch the fireworks as I was too busy watching the sparks end up in the crowd Hmm

much chilli pain again so its hard to concentrate on the weather. Might go back outside, numb is far preferable.

OYBBK what did you DO with the chillies? Rub them in open wounds or something? I made a marinade tonight with some and rubbed my eye, oops, but it's fine now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 20:16

I only chopped them :( I chop chillis loads. I have no idea why its so bad. It was 400g of them. then they got whizzed in a chopper thing and that made me cough loads. Its as bad as when I've properly burned myself but between every finger.
I'm currently weighing up whether to break into my tramadol or have wine.

Report from my relatively sheltered bit of southern Hampshire: Mostly wet and windy, thank goodness. I can hear fireworks, which might or might not (wind direction) be from the local, huge, Round Table organised, fireworks display. I do hope that display is going ahead - it's a lot better and safer, and they raise a lot of money for charity.

Going off at a tangent - I've read on another forum I hang out in, a report from a US member that Texas has had a rainstorm of 12 - 14 inches of rain.

Kitten - what's with the or? Any reason why you can't have both? (That's what I'd do. Grin)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 02/11/2013 20:36

lol!! I've never been brave enough to try it!
worst should be over for those in the west this evening. Will update with the next prospects tomorrow.

I am having wine AND Tramadol OYBBK, I can recommend it Grin. They must have been pretty potent chillies, you need to send one off for Scoville testing Grin.

12-14 inches alcibiades Shock

FreshWest · 02/11/2013 20:42

Oooooh don't do it OYBBK! I got given tramadol and I wasn't even brave enough to take them never mind adding wine into the mix.

Wind does seem a bit calmer here for the moment.

Theincidental · 02/11/2013 20:42

North Cornwall and the winds here are far worse than last week's "storm".

It's been building all day. Stuff flying around outside and my plants are taking a right battering.

GloriaSmud · 02/11/2013 20:48

OYBBK ~ easing chili burns (does recommend drinking alcohol but only for burns as a result of eating chillies Grin) but further down, says try Petroleum jelly or Vaseline.

LostInWales · 02/11/2013 20:56

Tramadol's OK FreshWest, I don't even have hallucinations any more. I AM much more cheerful though Grin

digerd · 02/11/2013 21:03

S.Herts
No wind here still and fireworks going off in the only garden near us that has children< rest are old fogiesGrin>

At the back there are open fields and playing fields/golf club. Can't hear or see a massive display though.

OYBBK Hope your chilli burns soon cool down. Sounds nasty.

1leggedwobbler · 02/11/2013 21:04

Wine & Tramadol?!?! Blimey.. you are made of stronger stuff than I am! My packet says never to mix them...OYBBK go for the Tramadol, but wait an hour for it to do anything. (Disclaimer, I'm not a druggie, I'm recovering from a broken fibula so knowledgable about nice strong NHS drugs!)

Very windy here in the Irish Sea. OYBBK, you are right about there maybe should have been more warnings, but tbh we get storms like these every year. It is a very tricky balance to get right, I'm glad I'm not the one who has to decide.

FreshWest · 02/11/2013 21:14

LostInWales Grin I bet!

shiningstar22 · 02/11/2013 21:16

Im in west wales and the storm here is much worse than last week. The sea is coming over and flooding the roads, the river has burst its banks and the wind must be reaching 80mph.

LostInWales · 02/11/2013 21:19

Where are you shining (if you don't mind saying obviously, post it in Welsh!) we've had a flooding warning from the sea rather than the river . Friend from Aber just posted some amazing photo's of the waves battering the seafront there, huge!

1legged I've taken them for quite a while though so I'm quite used to them, I didn't drink at first promise!

alcibiades · 02/11/2013 21:19

LostInWales - www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/1-killed-in-downpour-that-drenched-the-state-4945127.php

"In all, the National Weather Service said, more than a foot of rain fell across Texas' midsection, including up to 14 inches in Wimberley, southwest of the state capital." It seems that when they have weather in the US, they sometimes have huge weather.

I do my best in explaining to my transpondian cousins that comparing weather statistics between the UK and the US belies the fact that they're a big country with lots of relatively uninhabited areas and pretty much predictable weather patterns, whereas we're a small island with weather patterns that can come from all manner of directions, sometimes unexpectedly.

I looked on wiki for Scoville testing. Every day on MN is a learning day. Smile

shiningstar22 · 02/11/2013 21:24

Im in Aber :) There's some amazing pics on twitter with the waves never seen anything like it before.

alcibiades · 02/11/2013 21:25

shiningstar - that sounds very scary. Hope you're OK.

LostInWales · 02/11/2013 21:26

Wow alcibiades thanks for the link, sad that someone died though. I can't imagine a foot of rain.

LostInWales · 02/11/2013 21:28

I'm about 30 miles south of you shining, the pictures look amazing and a tiny bit scary. Looking forward to going to the beach tomorrow to stare at the waves.

FreshWest · 02/11/2013 21:30

We were going to do that today but dd (ASD) would just want to jump in and not understand why she's not allowed to. Now there's a child that loves water

BasicFish · 02/11/2013 21:32

Over in East Anglia, having some pretty strong winds here. Sounds like it's on a par with last Sunday's wind. Hoping everyone stays safe and the wind calms down.

Theincidental · 02/11/2013 21:38

Hail! Fricking hail! It's gross now. Officially vile weather.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 02/11/2013 21:41

In Norfolk, the storm pretty much missed us last week. Tonight is majorly gusty (had to leave my wine glass inside when I went out for a cigarette), but seems to be dying down now (relief as surrounded by lots of v tall spindly trees).

Fireworks have stopped too Grin
