Another severe storm 2nd/3rd November?

Quite possible I'm afraid.

Very early days in forecasting land but it has been showing in the models for a couple of days already.

GFS takes a deep low across northern scotland which would bring gales (severe??) to southern Scotland and northern England.

ECMWF and UKMO have it less deep but further south and not causing nearly so many issues.

NAVGEM brings possibly severe gales to England

GFS spotted last nights storm very early on and actually wasnt a bad forecast. We need to keep an eye on the situation.

Let's hope the storm that GFS is showing for next weekend doesnt come to fruition. It initially got the position of yesterday's severe weather in the wrong place - with the track much further north. However it did pick it up several days in advance.

I do have some happier news for those who like quiet weather: GFS shows a blocking high setting up over the Atlantic after next weekend. If that came off we would end up with much quieter weather.

I can vouch for it being blustery down here on the south coast. Just back from a very chilly walk over the Downs to the marina with DD2 and borrowed dog.

How's your hands this afternoon Kitten?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 17:59

just a little tingly Pesto :) thank you for asking. I do feel a bit daft!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 19:13

Sorry Jersey, you keep falling off my radar I'm not used to looking further south than the south coast of England.

Fingers burning again Hmm how is that possible?

Another storm next weekend? . Noticed a cross post at the top of my arch has dislodged. Must get my large 2 step stool out to reach it and try to bang it back in before next weekend then. Sad

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/11/2013 20:26

Audilover · 03/11/2013 20:30

The wind seems to have calmed down now but it is still fucking raining! It's been pouring down constantly for the past 3 and a half hours. Not to mention the heavy showers we've had all morning and afternoon!

Huitre · 03/11/2013 21:13

Scary, Jersey. Stay safe. My mum and dad in Guernsey are also reporting very high winds.

digerd · 04/11/2013 06:12

After a sunny day all day yesterday, we had high winds and rain all night long in S HertsConfused. And cold at 5 degrees again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/11/2013 09:00

Saturdays depression looks less significant on the latest gfs run :) more of a rain maker than anything else.

beautiful sunny frosty morning here today, scraped the car for the first time this year!

digerd · 04/11/2013 09:24

I can't grumble as we had rain all night - so no frost this morning- and after 8am the sky cleared and it's sunny, blue sky and fresh air. Just what I said I wantedSmile < just one little moanGrin as I should have worn gloves on dog walk as hands were cold. Note on my list to wear them in the mornings>

DameDeepRedBetty · 05/11/2013 16:48

Hi Kitten, what sort of level of thermals/waterproofs/sod-it-let's-not-bother should I be thinking about for a fireworks display in NE Wilts on Friday?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 05/11/2013 19:08

I'd be prepared for showers and ermm perhaps thunderstorms! Wind not too bad unless you get some gusts in the showers/thundery stuff. Temp about the same as it is now so pop out and see how warm you feel Grin

As I expected from the forecasts, Co Durham had its first snow, this morning. At only 500ft above sea level, it was just cold and wet, here, but up in Teesdale, there was 2" of the stuff, this morning!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/11/2013 07:33

Wow!
How does the time of first snow this year compare to other years?

OP posts:
ouryve · 06/11/2013 09:33

Last year, we had it down here at the end of October, but didn't get a lot more until after Christmas, then it snowed until we were well and truly fed up of it. The last really early snow was "Snowvember", so 3 years ago. After 2 weeks of that, school ended up shut for almost a week at the end of the month. The west of the County always gets hit hard, when it's around. There's even permanent snow gates on the A66 which connects Co Durham and Cumbria and frequently ends up shut.

It'll be interesting to see what sort of winter we have, this year, after the last one, which seemed to go on forever (we had snow on DS2's birthday, in May!). October was quite mild.

ouryve · 06/11/2013 09:36

Hah! It's made it onto the national papers! Front page news fir the Times!
