met office warnings For tomorrow for Scotland and NW England, extending to Yorkshire. NW Scotlant in particular looks awful with blizzard conditions.

I'm not quite sure about the warnings for England, I'm going to be really interested to see how they pan out. Tuesday scattered sleet and snow showers for many.

S.Herts
Just survived the afternoon walk with little dog. Those old padded ski trousers that I found in a charity shop and dyed from light green to light brown, are lightweight and windproof, . Haven't worn them for some years now, but perfect for the current weather.
The wind gusts increased with such force that it blew me off balance, being no heavier than a twig myself and quite frail. Then I got scared a thick branch of the many trees could snap and fall on my head and konk me out or hurt little dog, so rushed home.
The wind is the worst problem in many ways and quite scary.

FriendofDorothy · 11/03/2013 16:46

We have lots of trees down over here. Causing huge problems for the traffic flow which was already struggling.

digerd · 11/03/2013 17:01

We didn't get much wind from the east in Germany in the summer, and then it was always very hot. In the winter I remember only once a whip lash wind from Siberia, which I could not tolerate and had to go home, after my scarf had frozen solid from moisture in my breath within a couple of minutes< had it over my nose and mouth and cheeks>
KITTEN
anyone know when this wind will abate? The chill factor is one thing but the force of it is dangerous.

PigletJohn · 11/03/2013 17:09

S coast

it was bright enough earlier to dry the remaining snow off the car, but now it is colder and the light flurries are coating it again Angry

It doesn't feel very cold, though. Gusty wind from N.

DamnDeDoubtance · 11/03/2013 17:19

Snowing quite hard in east kent.

PestoFrostissimos · 11/03/2013 17:43

Blizzarding up here on the Downs near Brighton and snow's drifting over the roads.

Just noticed the skies are clearing now, which means a very cold night if stays clear. And wind gusts still galeforce.
Oh, -1 already, but clouding over again. Can't it make up its mind?

digerd · 11/03/2013 18:10

Why are we having hurricane force gusts of wind up to 135 mph, when Germany - nearest the north sea area- has only 22 kilometers per hour?

harbinger · 11/03/2013 18:23

Settled snow here on the seafront in West Sussex. It's already below freezing and still coming down.

The roads won't be good in the morning unless there is a thaw (ha ha).

Is this the time of year when the sea is at it's coldest? As it never normally settles here.

PeneloPeePitstop · 11/03/2013 18:25

Blizzard in Horsham...

harbinger · 11/03/2013 18:31

Had blizzards on and off all day but the snow didn't start settling till about 2pm.

MegGriffin · 11/03/2013 18:44

Our warning in west sussex has been upgraded to amber!

pigleychez · 11/03/2013 18:48

6.5 cm here in West Sussex.

more forecast overnight and into tomorrow.

noddyholder · 11/03/2013 18:49

Brighton lots of snow now

harbinger · 11/03/2013 19:02

Amber :o So more to come then?

pigsinmud · 11/03/2013 19:11

Pah - can't it move up a little it please? Would like some in surrey.

pinklady1107 · 11/03/2013 19:18

Nothing here in Kent - any idea if we're due some? Xx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 19:43

pinklady, you are covered in snow according to the radar! I wonder what is happening to it?! I'm not surprised that sussex are under an amber!!!

It has skirted my area all day. Plenty of flurries and that sharp wind but its all been a tease. Has sent my cat bonkers!

hurricane force winds digert?

S.Herts
No change here. Still -1, still very windy, no snow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 19:48

winds should ease somewhat tomorrow and be much better by wednesday (thank goodness!)

Ditto to that. Phew, so relieved to hear that, Kitten. Just the ice and snow to contend with then. Managed last time though at least in the snow, the ice was not so pleasant.

pinklady1107 · 11/03/2013 20:12

Just begun snowing! Is Kent expecting a lot then? Xx

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 20:19

Pinklady, I'd think a few cm are quite likely.

Meglet · 11/03/2013 20:27

North hampshire.

The heating is staying on tonight that's for sure. No snow but the wind is howling.

harbinger · 11/03/2013 20:29

West Sussex coast (seafront), I poked my head out of the back door and it is still snowing. I wasn't sure at first, due to the wind blowing snow off buildings.

It's very fine snow and going to the front I can see it under the street lights.

No gritters around. Looks like a bad morning.
