met office warnings For tomorrow for Scotland and NW England, extending to Yorkshire. NW Scotlant in particular looks awful with blizzard conditions.

I'm not quite sure about the warnings for England, I'm going to be really interested to see how they pan out. Tuesday scattered sleet and snow showers for many.

And the doves are cooing outside. Surely they know something we don't?

WhispersOfWickedness · 11/03/2013 09:21

What do you think about Lincolnshire, OYBBK? It says it's supposed to be light snow for us but it's currently beautiful sunshine Confused

StellaNova · 11/03/2013 09:36

It is snowing like crazy here in Essex.

pigsinmud · 11/03/2013 10:02

It's cold. Doesn't seem too bad as you step out the door, but walking the dog across the fields.....snow is blowing horizontally and it is freezing. My ears are aching like mad now.

MySweetPrince · 11/03/2013 10:19

Heart of Kent reporting in..........full scale blizzard at the moment..laying on grass etc but so far not settling on roads and pavements.Bitterly cold wind.

PigletJohn · 11/03/2013 10:25

A dusting of snow on the South Coast, staying on grass and foliage but not roads. We had some bright spells earlier.

Just been out with little dog, in full eskimo outfit. I was expecting it to be worse, and didn't feel like -10. Let the chilly wind blow the cobwebs away and give me rose up my cheeks. Then it started snowing a little, but not settled.
Big shock though as my fingers got cold in my sheepskin gloves? Gave the mittens away as were too bulky < regretful face>

Good surprise as must have lost weight walking dog twice a day in the last 2 months as got my ski trousers on and easily did the button up without strangling my guts < pleased face>

pepperrabbit · 11/03/2013 11:14

I am SOOOOO cold.We have flurries rather than snow but the wind - ouch Shock
2.5 hours outside in the biting wind has finished off my extremities!
I wore 2 thermal tops, jumper and windproof fleece, 2 pairs of socks and gloves and my boots and hat. Think the kids thought the michelin woman was teaching.
Have just had to report a tree down in my road as well Confused, must have fallen since 8.30 on the way to school and completely blocking the path home.
Eucalyptus though - think they have shallow roots?

LillethTheCat · 11/03/2013 11:45

Wish the weather would do one thing or another. One minute its snowing a blizzard, the next its bright sunshine and blue sky. I have got a course on a Monday night in Ripon which is 45 minute drive away and I would just like it to either stop so there is no problem going or keep snowing hard so I can't go. DH thinks I should stay at home, but I feel a bit of a wuss if I did as most of the time its driveable in. WWYD?

Just put the junk mail bin out and was in a flash snowstorm. My protected Camelia was rocking in the galeforce gusts, compost felt dry so was about to water it from many of the buckets outside and was shocked to find they were all frozen solid ice. It was only -1 last night fgs. < grizzly face>

digerd · 11/03/2013 12:16

And NO FROST - so how come the water froze solidly in the buckets?

reastie · 11/03/2013 12:25

Marking place again . I'm in west Kent and snowing on and off all morning, laying in gardens but not hugely on roads yet.

reastie · 11/03/2013 12:29

Lilleth what's the forecast like for you? I guess the question is what are the chances of it getting worse and so the drive home would be too difficult should it start snowing alot given how long you have to drive home? I've got a similar (but not quite so bad) situ this afternoon - meant to take DD to creche and swimming all afternoon, could easily cancel but would have to pay for creche and swimming now as it's too short notice. I'm worried about getting stranded as we live in the black hole of snow where I live - our roads are always terrible Confused

gnushoes · 11/03/2013 12:36

Brighton: been snowing all morning -- small flakes, but very persistant. Not settling on the roads or pavements but it is everywhere else...

LillethTheCat · 11/03/2013 12:49

reastie I live rurally. The road is ok, just wet. I wrote my last post when I couldn't see the hedge at the other side of the road due to all the snow and the heaviness it was falling down. The forecast has just got snow showers. I will finish my course at 9 so will be leaving Ripon at 9PM and will get home about 9:45PM. I am going to go, its just pathetic of me if I didn't go. One minute its dry, but the next its a blizzard, that only lasts a few minutes. I had a thought that if it was rain it wouldn't stop me so why should a bit of snow, especially when other areas of the country are worse that we are in North Yorkshire/Co Durham border.

GloriaSmud · 11/03/2013 12:57

We've had bright sunshine and snow, all at the same time here (Leicester) this morning.
The wind's got up and the temperature seems to be all over the place and changing quickly as well ~ we've got as high as 2.1c and as low as 0.8 in the last hour (currently it's 1.7c.)

leesmum · 11/03/2013 12:58

We've just had a mini blizzard here in Manchester, lasted about 15 mins and could barely see out of the window!! Very cold winds too

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 12:59

Frost forms when a surface is colder than the dew point of the air next to it. So the ground needs to be colder than the air.
I'm not surprised trees are coming down tbh.

digerd · 11/03/2013 13:02

Just another flash snow storm lasting a few seconds. +1 outside.

pigsinmud · 11/03/2013 13:04

Mid surrey - been snowing all morning here. Big flakes at the moment, however swirling around and only settling on grass, trees, fence etc.. Paths & roads just look wet.

Temp is -0.2.

digerd · 11/03/2013 13:07

I assumed the grass was blown dry by the wind so no dew to freeze over.
Lawn looks lush as in spring. The buckets of water were all full and frozen solid? Not normal with just -1 ime.

It's all gone MAD, and driving us mad too.
Sun out again.
March snow showers instead of April Showers. Anyone remember the regularity of the latter? That's changed as well.

FriendofDorothy · 11/03/2013 13:10

Guernsey is slowly grinding to a halt. The snow is settling thick and vast and we are not equipped for this!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 11/03/2013 13:11

The water wont be below the coldest temperature that has occurred over the past few days. However, more of the water will be frozen in buckets as the wind will be removing heat from them faster than still air.

Woke to small covering this morning in Bournemouth ,but this has now nearly all gone, still little flakes falling though.

Lifeisontheup · 11/03/2013 15:56

Thermal vest, thermal t-shirt,hat and thermal tights plus thick socks ready for the night shift tonight. Anything else I can wear and still be able to move?
