I'm still waiting for any significant snow fall! Really need it now, as dh has buggered up the nice carpet of snow in the garden, by choosing today, to cut down a tree!Confused

When dd asked why he had to do it today, my reply was, 'because he has snow boots, a chain saw and a lumberjack jacket!' It's a manly thing to do in the snow innit? Grin

musicposy · 18/01/2013 15:34

Waves to other WestSussexers on the thread!

DH works at Gatwick and obviously got in OK - but is due to get coach back at 8pm. I'm really hoping it's better up there than it is here a few miles north of Chichester. I don't know when I've seen it so deep here!

VisualiseAHorse · 18/01/2013 15:36

Official whiteout here in Aberdeenshire...can only see about 40 foot outside my window!

Just managed to get out for a walk with the baby in the sling, which he really enjoyed.

LalaSalama · 18/01/2013 15:46

About 5 inches here in Swindon, been snowing since about 6am and still going! More forecast for Sunday/Monday!!

Snowimng a little here again, but its fine flakes and although the sky looks heavy with it, I can't see it lasting or getting thicker. Sad

Heffalumpa · 18/01/2013 15:52

Been snowing consistently since about 9:20 in Milton Keynes. Not been out since picking DH up from the station at 10. But he's been out and says its not actually that deep.

Wonder how much of an accumulation we'll get if it does carry on through the night as per forecast Confused

MirandaWest · 18/01/2013 15:54

There were a few flakes in York. They went away away Grin

pigleychez · 18/01/2013 15:56

music Im near Gatwick. Currently about 6/7 cm. Main road seem pretty clear so fingers crossed his return is ok.

travellingwilbury Waves :) Im just down the road from you.

DH is working in London. Was hoping he would come home early to avoid the rush and mess of cancelled trains but it would appear he is staying put. :( Hope its ok or who knows what time I will see him tonight.

TwllBach · 18/01/2013 15:58

WE HAVE SNOW!

Inches of the stuff. I hit us hard about 12 and hasn't stopped since. We have all been sent home Grin

LIZS · 18/01/2013 15:59

Still no snow here in North Yorkshire (a couple of miles from Co Durham). Hope its only going to be light here till tomorrow afternoon so DD1 can get to and from her birthday party. Or at least the roads will be ok.

OooohShiny · 18/01/2013 16:04

to be honest I am relieved that we have nothing at all here in sunny Ayrshire...it's been a beautiful day and I think (afaik) that there is no snow forecast for here until Sunday and then only sleet Grin

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/01/2013 16:04

Mo - that is mean of your dh!!

travellingwilbury, it looks like it will continue overnight and gently fizzle out tomorrow over some hours. Sunday there could be a lot of snow showers about but I'm not sure how much extra accumulation there will be.

What's the best website to predict how many inches or CMs (not bothered which) of snow there might be? What does heavy actually mean? When does light snow become heavy snow? Is it still possible to drive in heavy snow?

SilverAndSparklyKat · 18/01/2013 16:09

We have been sledging. There's about 5 or 6 inches of snow out there and a car stranded with a snapped bit and the wheel hanging off.
I am now ready for hot chocolate and I'm still hoping for more snow!

digerd · 18/01/2013 16:09

Oh dear, just had my afternoon kip and find it's been snowing even more heavily. usually take the dog for her 2nd walk , but neither she nor I want to go out in it. And will be getting dark soon.
As least had no trouble with CH today after having the plumber round yesterday.
DD did go into work this morning and is back safely.

pepperrabbit · 18/01/2013 16:11

We have 11cm according to our official snow-o-meter.
(DH and a ruler) Grin
Snowing very very lightly now so that may be it for us in NE Hampshire.

travellingwilbury · 18/01/2013 16:17

Thanks Kitten , I have always managed to drive in the snow before but this morning my car just wouldn't manage it . Will see what sunday brings , if I can't drive then I can't go .

Grin There does seem to be a lot of us about .
ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 18/01/2013 16:23

4 inches here (South Derbyshire) and still snowing. The wind is bitterly cold and the snow is horizontal. We're all in now, and we're staying in

ajandjjmum · 18/01/2013 16:23

Really wimpy snow all day in South Staffs., no decent sized flakes, but the accumulation in our garden is pretty deep - 6/8 inches. The dog loves it!

TobyLerone · 18/01/2013 16:25

Right. We're risking the trip to see MIL in Herne Bay. No snow to speak of here or there, but I'm slightly concerned about ice. Some of the roads are little country lanes.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 18/01/2013 16:26

lurker and another west sussexer here

JammySplodger · 18/01/2013 16:26

The ILs are round your part of the world pepperabbit, I'm surprised we've not had a call declaring it a national emergency with 11cms. Like your snow-o-metre by the way.

It's still going in Sheffield, a couple of inches of powdery stuff that's getting blown off the rooftops. Did the school run by sledge, giggles all round!
