Snow watch!!!!

well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

Oh bother. Marking my place here - I like snow, in theory, but work is mad busy and my car doesn't go in snow. We live at the top of a very big hill, so pretty much get stranded.

Ooh yes we will need nice cheese and wine if we are to be snowed in SFB We are semi rural Worcestershire so it can get quite bad, if you can get to the main road it can be ok but sometimes you can't get out of the road. Sad

Plus the local walking distance Spar is bloomin expensive. Sad

Yeah, but ariel...do you really think OYBBK meant Cornwall too?

(squeeeee).....DS would be SO excited, he's never seen snow that he can remember ("last day was snow I was baby"), and we really could do with some horrible insectoid pests killed off, along with my scary 10ft triffid nasturtiums that refuse to die.

Even though it's a dead cert that the village will be cut off for 2 days at the first flake....

I think my memory is effed, I can never actually remember when it snowed. I know it snowed in feb 09, because we moved into this house in the Jan and it was baltic, pipes freezing and everything, then we had a big dumping of snow. Dec 2009 I know it snowed because I had ds2 by then and tried to get him to the 6 week check, but it was belting down.

Did it snow in early 2010 can't remember, obviously dec 2010 was cold and snowy for most, then I think it was pretty boring into 2011.

Think winter 2011/12 was quite crap wasn't it? I think we had a bit of snow feb 2012 but it didn't last long.

I love snow. We haven't had any yet, and we usually get at least a bit, (North Yorkshire). We have a crazy sledge of doom that is sitting in the garage just waiting to be used, and a hill behind the village that is very long and steep.

My birthday is at the end of Jan. A birthday snow-day would be ideal.

Is too sparkling - there's a main road that's pretty good, but you have to go up a half mile long fairly steep hill then back down it again - so if we get caught with cars on drive overnight rather than at local pub on main road we're screwed!

YY to wine Grin I've got all the Xmas alcohol left too as was on tramadol most of festive period - who's with me? Wine, cheeses, local cider, DH prob has some real beer stuff, vodka (actually that's been there since pre-DS, does it have a use by date?) and bucketloads of hot choc (Weight watchers and real stuff)

All I need is milk, soup and something for DS to eat :)

Oh yes, it definitely snowed in January 2010, even down here. Because DS was due on the 17th, and I remember wandering round the village idly wondering where the helicopter would land....

Although he ended up staying in for the next seventeen days, until it had warmed up considerably, and still had to be coaxed out with syntocinon.

Buggering bollocks that net weather site says we have a 90% chance of snow on Saturday!

I hate the snow. DH won't be able to get to work, the DC won't be able to get to school. They both have exams (A2's and GCSE's) so god knows what will happen!

What's the best stuff to buy for throwing on the paths? I will get some this year and not be out there with the cooking salt. Grin

I trust OYBBK more than the official models...she's never been wrong for where I am!

I don't mind snow - at least you can walk in it (wellied up obviously) but it's the fecking compacted ice afterwards here that puts the fear into me....days of walking along holding onto people's fences and gate posts

MaureenMLove · 08/01/2013 20:36

Not looked at them yet. Been busy arguing with work, but off to look now. (I will hold my hand up now and say that very short range forecasts, perhaps those associated with airport weather, are my main thing!
