Snow watch!!!!

well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

Just wandered onto the netweather thread and wtf? In the words of my mother, I know they're talking English, but I still don't understand!
Anyway, snow would be good, bring it on Grin
Just not enough to close preschool, DS started full days today and I won't be giving those up without a fight! Wink

Snow! This is why I should have bought that cheap but robust-looking sledge I saw the other day - idiot!

Even in Sussex ?

Fingers crossed , I would love to see some proper snow soon , and I agree about it having to be good and deep , not pointless ice and slush stuff .

No no no no no no no no no.

Just no.

Oh fuck. It CANNOT snow for the next 2 weeks - I live up in the midlands and get snowed in EVERY YEAR. Much as this is usually very pretty and stuff - I've just had major surgery and REALLY can't cope with a toddler, DH working FT night shifts (he's been snowed in at work before...for long periods) AND recovery.

So no. I won't HAVE it I tell you.

thats just the gfs output sparkling, so caution on that one.

ECM has just come out and its fabtabulous for this weekend! proper cold. woohoo! a bit marginal for snow I'm afraid, but fret not yet. it develops some real cold over the weekend into the early part of the week with lots more opportunities for snow.

Well all 3 major models agree for now about colder and snow this weekend, so the chances are pretty good.

The weather forecasts for here are never right tbh, I remember bbc/uk weather etc telling me I had slight drizzle, erm fail

raintoday is good if the snow risk actually materialises, you can watch where precipitation is happening/approaching.

pesto, in the current charts, yes, you would get snow.

But I forgot my usual disclaimer, am only an amateur who is syill learning and its a few days out and the models may all change and make me look like an idiot! Don't risk life or money on anything I say!

It will snow heavily on the morning of the 19th

Part of my job is to interpret weather charts and forecasts and yet I have never found a more reliable way of predicting heavy snow than the fact that I am going on holiday that day. Every year it happens!

I'm going to have to ohyoubadkitten!

But feel like I've used up all my help from lovely friends - family all down South. Could de-camp to them (again!)

It's very very gorgeous when it snows but... We're in a sort of valley, so 2 years ago (when I was inconvieniently 37 weeks pregnant) we had drifts of 2-3 feet, for three weeks - due to a high risk pregnancy, we had a hospital arranged emergency plan involving a landrover, paramedic team, air ambulance and the local pub field for if I went into natural labour pre induction - it was great fun for the drama-Rama, less good for anxiety.

It thawed the day of induction, snowed again the day we got home!

Great Sparkling - can we please get nice cheeses?
Does it get bad where you are?

I'm suddenly all intrigued by these charts and apps - seems far more accurate and exciting than the met office colour codes!

Kitten, how many more years are you going to give us that old flannel that you're only learning? WinkGrin

This has to be the 4th, maybe 5th year of predicting and they've been far better than that Michael Fish fella so far!

Oooo a nice new shiny snow thread! Netweather are giving us (Leicester) a 90% risk of snow for Saturday night. I feel we might need those MN weather department staples for snowy weather ~ hot chocolate, marshmallows and squirty cream, together with rulers for measuring snow depth.

i hate snow.

its a huge pain in the arse for anyone who has to get to work come what may.

it causes accidents and it always seems to come as a bloody huge surprise to councils who dont grit - last year a 30 min journey to work took me hours and nearly killed me twice.

i wish snow would fuck off. im hibernating.

It would appear that the the midlanders are indeed very grumpy about snow.
I'm not usually, though I hate all that sliding around on the ice, worrying about driving & the kids getting home from school.
I won't sleep for the next couple of weeks worrying about guests not arrivingSad....although I would enjoy all the champagne I've ordered!Grin
