Snow watch!!!!

well, it looks like winter finally might be arriving!

First indications for snow are for this coming saturday as a low pressure draws in cold air . The met office arent really going for it at the moment, but the potential is certainly there. At the moment I'd say the biggest risk is for the midlands and central England.

After that there seems to be a cold few days but then the models start to disagree. GFS shows a positive snow fest for the 24th! masses of snow, but its a long way off and until we get much closer who knows what really will happen.

I will believe it when I see a flake of snow out of the window I think. I am not going to get the snow shovel out until it is definite. Grin

Good luck Toby :) I'm Kent too and it looks like it will most likely be rain until the evening.

Everyone's a winner!

Oh porkster :( I did say at the beginning 'the potential is there'!

I've not changed my view at all, just a bit worried that I'm going to be lined up in front of a firing squad if today's models are wrong Grin

I told dd about the possibility who got very excited at the prospect of missing school but then started deciding that she didn't want to miss Monday, or Thursday or Tuesday or, well any day. She says the problem is, she likes school too much Shock that's a bit odd for a teenager isn't it?

Thanks, all. Rain would also be crap, but at least it wouldn't stop people coming.

That "will it snow" thing is very strange. I think we're in some sort of zero-snow hole like in the middle of a polo. Snow all around, but none for us.

We've had snow since October and it will be here until March/April. The novelty does wear off after a while ...

Can i have a personal forecast for york please Grin

Report
OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/01/2013 22:29

At the moment, looking at GFS York would be most likely to have some snow showers feeding in off the east coast through the weekend rather than anything dramatic.

Ok, off to bed, will update with the discussion on the latest model output before I go to work :) sleep well!

Netweather thinks Basingstoke will have a 90% chance of snow on Saturday Hmm.

Met Office forecast is just for a boring old cold day Confused.

Well, I've had a quick look, and one thing that leaps out at me is that Heathrow does indeed look as though it will be snowed under in the early hours of the 19th Jan. Which is when we are off on hols. Another snippet or randomness is that there is a new manager in charge of snow clearance starting the day before. (I spoke to his wife the other day, not knowing this, and when I joked about it snowing on the 19th she turned white and went 'oh, no! It'll only be his second day on the job!' Kind of guarantees it, I reckon!)

In 13 years flying professionally I've only ever had one flight anywhere in the world delayed due to snow by more than a couple of hours - and even my longest delay was only 6 hrs. But every year, we go on holiday, and the snow just falls and falls and falls!

London has a 90% likelihood of snow on Sunday, but the precipitation is only 1mm so really that's just a sleety dusty. Still, the temperatures are forecast to 'feel like' -8 or -9, which is very rare here.

Thanks Kitten!

Just thinking I ought to buy a sledge so I can get dc to school. Any recommendations?
