Just for fun Xmas Smile

GFS had Christmas Day in sight now. Of course it's massively a long way off in forecast terms and it can't even make its mind up what is going to happen on Friday yet!

disclaimer: am only an amateur and this is my hobby. Please don't rely on it for any crucial decisions - I don't want you to get into pickles cos I got it wrong!

And now for the forecast......

That might be slightly overdoing it, they use GFS which tends to overestimate a bit. Nevertheless it does look very wet indeed.

Oh, that's interesting Kitten.

Hope there is no serious flooding - couldn't be a worse time for it.

Kitten don't worry. We know you don't control the weather. You just spy on it. S ok

I've just watched the weather forecast. I wish they would give news of this never-ending march of depressions with less obvious relish.

Ariel - I know :(

Well today doesn't look too bad for Christmas Day. GFS shows Showery and mildish with ssw winds. Warmed up a bit in Scotland so snow would be confined to higher ground.

In the run up, watch out for gales on the 23rd in Scotland. Also an awful lot of rain for the SW in particular, but also for other areas.

All models in rough agreement now.

Not sure if this is of interest but, on Monday, West Yorkshire was "enjoying" yet more torrential rain but it was snowing on the "tops" near the Derbyshire border (Woodhead Pass). Fortunately, it stopped before proper settling. Bloody stuff. Grin

It's a tricky area! We once got caught out very badly up there. You might have the same possibly on Christmas Day then.

I just realised how Yorkshire my post sounded "proper settling"?! It's finally happened. After eight years, I've gone native.

The latest GFS run is interesting. Complex low pressure sits to the north on Christmas Day bringing in a cold northerly feed. Whilst it would be too warm in the day for most for snow the conditions are almost there for some snow showers in the early hours of Christmas am. Lets see what happens with the next run.

A couple of years ago this thread would have been buzzing.

Similar picture in the latest run. A showery day, wintery up in Central Scotland. Both ECMWF and UKMO are broadly supportive of this picture.

Kitten, it's still raining here - Warwickshire. WHEN OH WHEN will it stop?! Our house is on clay soil and when it gets soaked we end up losing power which has only just come completely back on about 2 hrs ago.

Anyway, any chance of snow for Christmas Day in central England? It's flaming well cold enough at the minute. Snow doesn't knock the power out but the sodding rain does.

Thank you for updates btw do appreciate them. Xmas Smile

We had rain and rain and rain and rain yesterday and last night. More floods. I can't believe this. Not my house, luckily for me, but not for others :(

Another one watching but not commenting much .

All this rain is depressing , I want a snow watch thread instead , once it looks like snow of course .

The rain really is concerning. A bit of respite tomorrow and also Sunday but some very high rainfall totals by the end of Monday.

Very very little chance of snow Christmas Day in central England.
