As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

Right, I'm fed up of this.

I live in Linlithgow, outside Edinburgh, we get rubbish weather most of the year and when the rubbish weather is actually quite good, i.e. snow, then we miss out?

Ridiculous!

We want snow, unlike last year I've got the shovel, snow boots, bought dts new sledges. So far this winter - not a bloomin' flake has fallen this way. Some lovely frosty mornings, bright sunshine wintery days but we want snow!!! Kindly send it north when you're finished with it please, thanks.

wheeldog · 05/02/2012 20:20

In Brentwood- 10cm snow, and we made an igloo big enough for 4 adults and 5 children to fit in at the same time!

dementedma · 05/02/2012 20:25

same here in Fife "twoif* after last year's snow I have stocked up on wellies, snow shovels and everything else, and we have hardly had a flake!

musicposy · 05/02/2012 20:37

MegGriffin that's why you have snow and we don't, then! I sent DH on the train, but drove him to the station (4 miles, he usually cycles).

denialandpanic or anyone else near Guildford, how's it doing up there? We left Guildford yesterday evening when it was snowing quite heavily. Would normally go up to the ice rink early morning but not going to risk it if the roads are treacherous. If it's melted and then freezes, we'll give it a miss.

JustRedbin · 05/02/2012 21:11

Nice and clear here on the Isle of Wight.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/02/2012 21:13

whojam, I think the roads should be fine by then. Although there will be a refreeze by night, hopefully in the day time enough will melt so they can clear.

PeneloPeePitstop · 05/02/2012 21:15

Netweather is giving snow through the week, met office not, anyone got an opinion on that one?

denialandpanic · 05/02/2012 21:38

meggriffin, we are slightly to the south of guildford and roads are fine. i cant tell if its freezing but dp is out at pub quiz will report back when he comes in. unless this sneaky front materialises i am planning for business as usual in the am.

denialandpanic · 05/02/2012 21:39

oops sorry i meant musicposy must pay attention

whojamaflip · 05/02/2012 21:40

Thanks OYBBK

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 05/02/2012 21:52

It's a slushy mess here, which at 5am when I have to leave for work, will be an ice rink! Buggering bugger. Hoping for a dump of snow where I am working tomorrow so I don't have to go Grin

loopydoo · 05/02/2012 22:19

Hi - I'm wondering what to do tomorrow.
We've had 16cm of snow last night and it's still not thawing.

Tomorrow, have a dilema about taking the kids to school.

DD usually takes the bus 6 miles to middle school and I drive DS 1.5 to his school.TThe bus driver drives a bit like a tit racing driver on non-snowy days so I'm really worried about sending her on a double deecker in these icy conditions.

Firstly, not sure I can drive DD rather than send her on the bus as I'm a bit wary of driving down the hilly bits and second, even if the schools are both open, will they be funny if I choose not to drive them in, even if others who are braver than me do?

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/02/2012 22:23

PPP I think it does reflect the possibility - gfs does hint at that. keeping a close eye on it.

thank you whojam :)

you know loopy, even though it will probably be fine (if the bus runs!) your dd is your daughter and you have the right to make these calls on her safety no matter what anyone else thinks.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/02/2012 22:24

wheeldog - very impressive :)

drcrab · 05/02/2012 22:29

15cm in Canterbury since this morning and it's not melted! The main roads are clear though - the gritters must have been working (after last year's pasting!).

musicposy · 05/02/2012 22:38

loopydoo, I'd do what you feel. DD1 has ballet tomorrow night, on the train, 20 mile journey, and back quite late. I think if it's freezing like this and there is any train disruption at all, she can give it a miss. She's 16 and so perfectly capable, but I still don't want to risk having her stuck in a town 20 miles away. Will her school bus even turn up? Round here they don't need any excuse not to bother. Grin

denialandpanic, that's useful. We're coming up from Chichester way so not going north of Guildford.

PigletJohn · 05/02/2012 23:30

did the M11/M25/A3 run this evening. No snow south of the Hampshire Mountains round Liphook and the tunnel. Otherwise about 100mm or so everywhere, but the major roads were clear, damp in places due to drizzle. It does not seem cold and icy, more like melting. Maybe it will be sunnier tomorrow. Still thick and soft or slushy down quiet or residential roads.

denialandpanic · 05/02/2012 23:54

dp reckons its not freezing outside

OhyouBadBadkitten · 06/02/2012 07:26

I'm at -0.3C this morning.

Interestingly UKMO and GFS show widespread light precip today. Mix of rain and perhaps snow for the colder areas. Think its going to be a bit of a grim winters day.

lubeybooby · 06/02/2012 07:43

+4c here. Rain last night saw off the last of the slush. Snow all gone apart from in my back garden which is a weird micro frost hollow. It's gone in all the neighbours gardens.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 06/02/2012 07:58

tis quite cool - your own personal little frost hollow :)
Think all the schools are open round here. Not surprising though the slush has gone quite icy.

ObviouslyOblivious · 06/02/2012 08:00

Still lots of snow on the ground and a thick fog here on N London outskirts.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 06/02/2012 08:00

sounds very Dickensian Obv!

ObviouslyOblivious · 06/02/2012 08:05

It is rather :o

pigsinmud · 06/02/2012 08:32

Looks freezing here due to fog and snow. Can't see the north downs out my kitchen window today. I really don't want to walk the dog in this!
