As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

musicposy we are about 20 mins from Gatwick. Im not sure about the roads though.

nannynick · 05/02/2012 13:47

What are the chances of schools being open tomorrow in Surrey? If they close, wonder if they will be open Friday instead of having an inset day then. It could be a very short school week. Guess a lot will be dependent on if the melting snow turns to ice tonight.

pepperrabbit · 05/02/2012 13:49

are you cleaning whole roads by yourself nannynick?

PeneloPeePitstop · 05/02/2012 13:51
Sad Yes I know, I'm a complete snow obsessive.
OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/02/2012 13:52

school closures are one of life's great imponderables!

MyCarHasBrokenDownAgain · 05/02/2012 13:58

Had about 2-3" in Newhaven. Friend in Southwick (west of us) had nothing and is really jealous. Went sledging this morning - DS (6) refused to take part, so me and OH acted like kids instead (and pissed the neighbours off by turning the road into slush Blush. I'll ache tomorrow, not been on a sledge since I was a kid. He did build a snowman with the girl across the road though.

Thought it would all be gone by now tbh, it was dripping at 4am, so surprised it still looks white outside. Hope it doesn't freeze over tonight though, as we'll never get out, and I don't think work will believe we've had snow - anyone know what the Lewes Road area in Brighton is like?

mycatsaysach · 05/02/2012 14:10

whatevertheweather - near beastly Smile

QED · 05/02/2012 14:15

northernlurker I really can't believe people going up Sutton Bank Shock. Very silly.

Am wondering if the snow will melt (just outside York). Not showing many signs so far.

Northernlurker · 05/02/2012 14:18

No I can't believe it either!

fuckingvalentinesday · 05/02/2012 14:30

.0 snow here not one bit at all just very cold and icy

Oblomov · 05/02/2012 14:37

Surrey - 1 inch. Tis melting now.
Mil - Essex - 6 inches
Sil - South Coast, nr Brighton - None.

andisa · 05/02/2012 14:57

Took the kids for a bit of sledding, hill seemed so uninspiring to a 12 and 15yr old - used to be in their element. Family walk through the woods was glistening, enlivening and beautiful - shame they argued about too hard snowball hitting!

Feel hot and cold about the snow!

Daughter has built an igloo( with no roof) though and son has gone to romp with friends - family unit doesn't grab his teen wander lust!

Journey of mum letting go with romantic visions and memories of times with littleuns in the snow!

Sofiamum · 05/02/2012 15:02

16cm in Chelmsford/Essex.

merlin · 05/02/2012 15:04

Driving from Dorset to Gatwick tomorrow morning - anyone know how the roads are - guessing/hoping M3/M25 are clear?!!!!!

denialandpanic · 05/02/2012 15:11

Merlin we are near guildford and roads are clear and theres a big thaw on, but a lot depends on how cold it gets later I think. Its still cloudy so less chance of a hard freeze??? I need a weather station!

katiecoocoo · 05/02/2012 15:14

I'm so gutted, no snow here in Bristol..I feel I should be relieved cos my baby is due in 2 days but I can't help my natural instinct which makes me feel the need to run about in the snow, have snowball fights and build snowmen..I'm well jealous of anyone who has thick snow..OOOHH how I LOVE snow and the fun that comes with it..:)

nannynick · 05/02/2012 15:45

pepperrabbit > are you cleaning whole roads by yourself nannynick?

Yes, this afternoon I am. Had some neighbours helping this morning but no sign of them this afternoon. Slackers!

Photos including one of me in a bright yellow jacket.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 05/02/2012 15:46

merlin temps may get down to about freezing but fog could be an issue. met office have an ice warning out.

ratspeaker · 05/02/2012 16:11

Not a flake here Edinburgh/East lothian sea level

phlossie · 05/02/2012 16:23

No snow here in Bristol. Normally I'd be disappointed, but this time I'm mightily relieved as I'm 39 weeks pregnant, have quick labours and live at the top of a hill. Had images of toboganning to hospital in labour...

notveryinventive · 05/02/2012 17:42

Far too much still in York for my liking. Going to keep the car in the garage and walk to school tomorrow. It has gone from the rooftops, but there is still loads on the ground. Doesnt look like its going to be going anytime soon though either. One can only hope. Sorry Ive not measured it, that will mean opening the front door and getting cold Grin plus Im far too lazy

hellhasnofury · 05/02/2012 17:47

Cambridgeshire Fens and about 4in here. Enough for DD to build an igloo in the garden.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 05/02/2012 18:03

Can't believe people tried to drive up/down Sutton Bank. How stupid?

We've still got lots (N Yorks), and although the main road is clear our side road is still covered. If it freezes tonight will be a bit tricky in the morning, so I've arranged to get a lift to school.

We had a great time sledging this morning.

youarekidding · 05/02/2012 18:18

Well I didn't have snow but my thread made discussion of the day.

ignores the fact its OYBBK thread really and I wasn't actually here at the time

OP posts:
whojamaflip · 05/02/2012 19:13

well we ended up with 9cm of snow here then it turned to rain - woke up this morning to all white but its been thawing all day. Still white but turning really slushy and its foggy. Temp just above freezing.

OYBBK sorry to ask again but I have to travel from Oxfordshire to the New Forest on Tuesday am - any idea if the snow will still be here? (car is crap in the snow) Or should I phone and cancel? Thanks
