As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

Morning. Looks like we will be getting 5-10cm overnight tonight so tomorrow morning may be tricky.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 07:08

Morning all - a very serious warning for the Pennine routes today (and also parts of the NE) for freezing rain. Very very nasty.

met office I seriously wouldnt attempt the pennines today.

ok, quick look as to what is going on.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 07:10

metcheck is ok as far as it goes - it uses one model for it's forecasts and is automatically generated. Often models don't agree with each other and in forecasts humans are still needed to turn model ouiput into something that genuinely makes sense.

Generally I'd recommend the met office if you need to rely on a forecast.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 07:16

I look at the Met Office website OYBBK, but it needs a sort out-and a page for dummies. Grin

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 07:20

Ok, I do think the SE will see some snow tonight and perhaps into tomorrow - models show the precip further over this way :) Will be interesting to see if the warnings expand that way.

However the worst of the snow I think will be around the midlands, with parts of the west midlands being the dividing line between rain and snow.. but with surrounding areas seeing significant snow.

Night temps exceptionally cold over the weekend.

back in a bit. dd calls.

Kayzr · 09/02/2012 07:24

OYBBK, is there likely to be a lot more snow here in North Yorkshire?
It's forecast but I need to go out tonight and do not want to be walking in a blizzard.

Thanks Smile

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 07:31

yes to more snow Kayzr - I'm not sure that it will be heavy though - just persistent. (watch it pep up now I've said that) I would keep an eye on the latest met office forecast- wouldnt want you out walking cos I've said it wont be too bad then you end up lost in a snow drift!

DamnDeDoubtance · 09/02/2012 07:46

I am obsessed! First thing I checked this morning was the rainfall radar then this thread.

Looks like its gonna miss east Kent tonight so I am planning on drawing the snow here by power of thought alone!

PestoSnowMonster · 09/02/2012 07:50

Snowing here!!!
Grin Grin Grin

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 07:51

Damn - I think you are right about it not making it that far over.

Pesto Grin

mankyscotslass · 09/02/2012 07:53

My main concern if it snows is to ensure we have enough toilet roll. Grin

We are in the midst of a D&V bug. Sad

But I doubt we will get much, though maybe OYBBK can tell me otherwise?

GloriaSmud · 09/02/2012 07:54

DamnDeDoubtance ~

Most weather websites think us in the E Mids are in for the heavy snow tonight/tomorrow.

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 07:54

I am going out for loo roll today and other snow essentials manky. Grin

ohyouBadBadkitten · 09/02/2012 08:06

mnaky - you poor soul :( Take care - looks like freezing rain could be a horrid issue for you. Some snow too but probably not too persistent.

Gloria - would agree with that.

well, tis off to work with me. :(

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 08:08

Have you got 'snow twitch' sparkling? :o

Snow looking likely for later today/this evening and tomorrow. (leics)

Sparklingbrook · 09/02/2012 08:24

Oh yes lubey. I will be up and down out of bed all night checking. Grin

CherryMonster · 09/02/2012 08:48

well bbc and met office both say i should get light snow this morning, then heavy snow tonight. am wondering just how much of a covering that heavy snow is likely to entail?????

funkybuddah · 09/02/2012 09:43

Do you know why metcheck keeps going wrong?
I click on today/this week and get an error code but the 8-14 days workd fin e(or not as every part of everyday is always the same temp etc lol)

It annoys me no end. Its not my pc as it does it on the laptop and my phone as well. Grrrrr

TeWihara · 09/02/2012 10:16

Yesterday and today I have noticed lots of little specs of snow. I reckon we would be thigh high in it if there was enough precip.

Very intrigued to see what happens tomorrow!

mankyscotslass · 09/02/2012 10:17

Very light misty rain starting here.

TeWihara · 09/02/2012 11:04

I have three forecast choices:

light snow this evening and sunny tomorrow (BBC)
No snow today but heavy snow all day tomorrow (net weather)
or light snow all day today and tomorrow (met office)

It is oddly exciting waiting to find out which is right!

TeWihara · 09/02/2012 11:05

oh, very south east midlands that's for.

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 11:10

Haha, I have three different ones too - dare i look at bbc as well?

netweather - snow from 9pm

met office - snow from 3pm

weather.co.uk - snow from 8pm

(the south westest bit of the east midlands)

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 11:11

BBC also says snow from 9pm same as netweather

lubeybooby · 09/02/2012 11:13

south westest bit of leicestershire even
