As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

OP posts:

Thanks Kitten, I do hope you're wrong and we do get (more) snow here after all.

I shall keep everything crossed and live in hope!

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 19:22

You can have ours Pesto. I don't want any. Grin

PestoSnowMonster · 08/02/2012 19:32

Thanks Sparkling, I can swap you for some mist & fog next time we get it, if you like Grin

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 19:48

That would be great Pesto. Everyone round here can drive with no headlamps again. Angry Grin

laughalot · 08/02/2012 20:05

Do I need to take my wellies to work im nottinghamshire ?

CherryMonster · 08/02/2012 20:12

oh bugger!!! and do you know if we are likely to get any tonight? it certainly looks like it will x

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 20:17

OYBBK. I keep hearing different cm estimate for how much we are going to get. 10cm has been mentioned?

ohyouBadBadkitten · 08/02/2012 20:20

sparkling - I really wouldnt like to try an estimate it at the moment cos it changed so quickly over today and i'm not convinced that it has done changing yet.

CM, no more than the odd little flurry.

Just been looking aroud at various weather forecasts for York. One says light snow all day tomorrow and Friday, another says icy rain and a third says sleet so I guess for us something will fall down, but what we dont know just yet. Hoping for rain personally, but if its snow then so be it.

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 20:22

Thanks OYBBK. That would account for the wildly fluctuating reports. Grin We still have a snow mountain on the front lawn from last week (and a forlorn looking carrot). Sad

JKSLtd · 08/02/2012 20:24

OYBBK - thanks for all your info so far. If I can trouble you with another question...

We're meant to be driving from Essex to Devon on Fri, the BBC, Met Office, etc. are conflicting but there seems to be a possibility of snow on our route on Fri. What do you think?
We can go on Sat instead, or we can cancel. Just wondering if it's madness to even consider it (with 3 DC, and coughs & colds)!

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2012 20:43

The weather websites seem to be all over the place when it comes to the forecast for us ~ guess it reflects the difficulty in forecasting where the snow is going to fall this time. The metoffice are going for 'light snow' just for tomorrow night, the BBC's TV weather along with TheWeatherOutlook is giving Leicester a bit more snow cover while netweather's going for 'snowmageddon.'

What we'll actually have now is rain, as I just got DH to go out and buy marshmallows and squirty cream for making hot chocolate for when the snow arrives (it's what the posters on the snow thread last weekend were doing!) It'll rain I tell you, rain!

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 20:44

So glad it's not just me Gloria. Smile

QED · 08/02/2012 20:55

Notveryinventive someone I was talking to seemed to think that snow was going to be further south than York.

ShagOBite · 08/02/2012 21:02

OYBBK and sparkling (who lives near me), what say you for the hills of Worcestershire? I am ill but need to go to work - what chances of school being closed on Friday say you please oh soothsayers of MN?

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 21:34

According to Midlands Today lady it was 10cm tomorrow into Friday. But I am not sure what to believe Shag 'Significant accumulations possible' according to BBC website. Possible being the key word. Confused

ShagOBite · 08/02/2012 21:36

Please! I need it!

btw. sparkling, interesting that you say you live in h&Ws - it's not been that for a long time! I assume you're somewhere in between - place beginning with C or E maybe?

Sparklingbrook · 08/02/2012 21:37

No it's to throw people of the scent Shag. I will PM you my exact location, I may be a bit further away than you think. Wink

Hulababy · 08/02/2012 21:44

Have given up with the forecasts I think! I have 4 different weather apps on my phone, plus check online - and they all say different things and they keep changing each time I look!

I am flying out of Manchester on Saturday to warmer climates.
I have to get from Sheffield to Manchester early Saturday morning.
The best route from here is over Snake Pass (A57) but there are a couple of longer routes if need be.

But I can't work out what the weather is going to do!

Of the weather here is going to be dodgy we could go Friday after work and stay in a hotel.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 08/02/2012 22:18

stupidly tired tonight so apologies if I don't make sense.

The difficulties with tomorrow night/friday is how far the warm front travels and how far in advance the precip travels ahead of it.Add into that the fact that it is coming up against cold air so that you have to work out how much will be snow and how much will be wet and it is nightmare to forecast. The models are showing very little agreement.

I do think that those east of the warning areas should be prepared.... I also think that if you are in the warning area you are pretty likely to get snow and the question is more of how much. Temps do look cold across the board.

Hula, I dont think you will need to leave Friday, but nor would I plan on using the snake pass.

JKS - can you play it by ear Friday am? by then you'll have a really good picture.

Shag - tis possible that there will be enough for school to close - it does quite look that way at the moment but no guarantees.

fraid that is me utterly done in for tonight. Will try to do better tomorrow Wink

ShagOBite · 08/02/2012 22:21

Thank you goodgoodkitty, you are so brilliant! :)

MiraNova · 08/02/2012 22:31

OYBBK Thanks I'll keep checking and hopefully we won't get snow in Surrey - until after Saturday lunchtime :)

MurmuringClothDoll · 08/02/2012 22:39

Sorry if this has been asked before...is Metcheck reliable? According to Metcheck I have snow in Cheshire from tomorrow and through into Friday/sat

But according to BBC weather...I have nothing but a bit of sleet tomorrow.

Confused
notveryinventive · 08/02/2012 22:51

I use metcheck, met office, netweather, BBC and sky. Dont know why I do, I just know what weather I want so look to find the one most likely, not that it changes anything. The one I take most notice of is the weather on my local BBC forecast on TV.

mankyscotslass · 09/02/2012 06:59

Hope you are feeling better OYBBK. Smile

I'm going to use the old method of forecasting - open the curtains and look out! Grin As forecasts for us vasr from rain, to sleet to light snow then heavy snow! Confused

Kids want more snow, but DH has to drive to Scotland on Saturday so he dosen't.
