As requested by our snow guru OYBBK heres the new thread as the other one is almost full.

And I have no idea why I'm still getting involved as we had no snow

OP posts:
MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 11:44

I just checked the met site and it says light showers for me in the SE.

I am supposed to be having a new appliance delivered Friday evening, although if it snows heavy I don't mind waiting till next week ! Smile

TeWihara · 08/02/2012 11:46

Oh bum. So why has met office changed it's mind?

pigsinmud · 08/02/2012 11:49

I just heard the weather forecast on Radio 5 and it said there is the possibility of snow on Thursday night/Friday for anyone south of a line drawn from Bristol to Hull - in some areas up to 10cm.

south345 · 08/02/2012 12:06

Ours still hasn't melted and we had a couple of inches so I hope we get more the kids are loving it!

MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 12:12

Te

They seem to chop and change their minds more often than the wind changes direction ! Just before I checked the site, good ol' Robin on the 'local' London weather said that we might get heavy snow, but to keep an eye on forecasts.

It gets so that you don't know which site to trust, which broadcaster to listen to, I bet come lunchtime BBC will say one thing and ITV another.

I tend to come and see what OYBBK has to say, and use that old fashioned time trusted method, of looking out of the window !

(I secrectly think if the truth be told no-one really has a bloody clue, so they warn us all, just in case). Grin

pigsinmud · 08/02/2012 12:27

I am the same as you MrsDeeBee. I come here to find out what OYBBK thinks. I scan various forecasts and give up! Supposedly we are meant to have light snow from 3am Friday through most of the day.

mostboringchatnickname · 08/02/2012 12:48

new weather warnings on the Met Office site!

GloriaSmud · 08/02/2012 12:50

Most boring ~ was just going to post about the weather warnings! (Linky thing to metoffice warnings.)

pigsinmud · 08/02/2012 12:56

Oh no I'm just out of the snow zone.

MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 12:57

Off to see what they think. Grin

MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 13:00

We might be on the cusp of it....I know someone on here mentioned heavy snow ? around the 16th, but don't ask me where !

I am hoping we are due a right heavy lot, we seem to have missed winter so far. It's not the same without snow !

TobyLeWolef · 08/02/2012 13:04

We're not covered by those warnings :(

letseatgrandma · 08/02/2012 13:04

That's rubbish-the yellow splodge completely misses us in the South-east!

ChickensGoMeh · 08/02/2012 13:08

Aw crap. I'm covered by the warnings. And I have much to do this weekend reliant on not being snowed in.

tak1ngchances · 08/02/2012 13:10

OK I have a conundrum.

Oh ye wise mumsnetters...I live in London and have got to travel on Friday.

Should I book plane to Manchester or train to Liverpool? Which do you think is more likely to run?

PeneloPeePitstop · 08/02/2012 13:11

We're not covered by the warning at all Sad

notveryinventive · 08/02/2012 13:12

I dont like that. We have warnings, but then the weather just says sleet. Am I right in thinking that sleet wont lay? Will it melt away some of the snow that is still on the ground?

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 13:16

Try not to fret too much if you east of the warnings :) I think it is because the models are showing the heaviest precipitation slightly more west than they were earlier. It isnt going to take much of a shift at all to bring a lot more precipitation over south eastern areas and the south east does still look to get some at the moment. Look at wetterzentrale and the 6h-Niederschlag 60 chart to see what I mean.

However once again its not quite cut and dry - upper air temps are really close to being a bit too warm, so it wouldnt take much to shift this to a cold rain forecast for a good part of the country.

tak1ngchances · 08/02/2012 13:18

OYWWQ what shall I do re travel? (see earlier post)

CherryMonster · 08/02/2012 13:19

OYBBK- no snow forecast for where i am until tomorrow night (looking at met check) but it looks distinctly like it wants to, and is certainly cold enough. any thoughts please?

tak1ngchances · 08/02/2012 13:24

PS just realised I sound v demanding. If you've got time/energy to think, Kitten. Have some Flowers from us

tak1ngchances · 08/02/2012 13:24

Thanks even!!!!!!!!!!

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 13:31

inmysparetime: "But how come the same cloud drops snow on North Manchester and freezing cold rain on us?" in which direction are you from manchester?

mostboring: "OYBBK keen for your take on potential for Friday night in the SE!" sepends which model you look at. GFS has the precip moving away towards the west pretty quickly. UKMO still shows some light snow.

tak1ng:"Oh ye wise mumsnetters...I live in London and have got to travel on Friday.Should I book plane to Manchester or train to Liverpool? Which do you think is more likely to run?" Tricky! but if it were me I'd choose the train over heathrow in the snow cos short haul flights seem to be first to bet axed.

mirrornova: "We're driving from near Guildford in Surrey, to the French Alps, via Eurotunnel, early on Saturday morning - I've had a look at the met office site, and it doesn't seem to be forecasting snow, but BBC weather is now saying light snow on Friday evening..Any insight as to what weather we can expect would be very welcome.. see mostborings answer :) Saturday am looks lovely but potentially icy.

THC: "any thoughts /Stansted ?cambridge away , am hoping ds3 is well enough to be transfered back to Cambridge .And was hoping for vistors .Cant have vistors at the monet as ds3 is to poorly so i not seen anoher non hospital person for a week now" early hours of friday morning into does seem to be potentially quite snowy.

I think that covers variations of peoples questions?

angelpantser · 08/02/2012 13:41

tak1ngchances I had to travel from the East Midlands to Liverpool last weekend by train. The trains ran to time and were lovely and warm. Very important at my age. Grin

My only minor complaint was that there wasn't any trolley service on the second train. But there might have been a buffet and I was too fecking lazy to go and look

MrsDeeBee · 08/02/2012 13:46

See, now Peter on the BBC has just told me that they are expecting heavy snow to the west of London.

Arghhhhhh !

At least BBC and ITV are in agreement for once. Peter also mentioned that the met office have issued an Early warning. Grin

Peter's lovely. I believe him slightly more than Robin. But then I do like Becky on ITV. Don't like Sian.
