OYBBK, any idea what's going on with Friday's forecast ? I have to drive down the M40 through Oxon and Bucks, and on the Met Office 5-day forecasts for that area, heavy snow has appeared. Confused

headfairy · 07/02/2012 21:31

It was -2 at 4pm here... The dcs and I came out of the local soft play place and gave a collective gasp! Wasn't expecting that so early in the evening/afternoon.

PeneloPeePitstop · 07/02/2012 21:41

ooh we're broadcast snow Thursday night into Friday....

PigletJohn · 07/02/2012 21:44

I did the M11/M25/A3 run again tonight. At the London end of the M11, it was very cold, after a mild day, all the remaining slush and puddles had frozen very hard and crunchy. The main roads were otherwise very clean and dry, there was some good sun today so a lot will have melted, there there was still snow on north-facing slopes and under hedges.

The only thick snow I saw was on the Hampshire Mountains near the tunnel.

South coast is not very cold.

lubeybooby · 07/02/2012 21:58

weather.co.uk now saying it's -6. Have had to turn the heating up another notch on the boiler and am sitting here wearing three layers and a dressing gown, thick socks and slippers and my hands are still cold! That usually only happens when it's -3 or below, boiler has only ever been on this level three times.

I want to get a log fire built up but I'm running low on logs and want to save them for when i have a visitor on Friday. Brrr

GloriaSmud · 07/02/2012 22:15

Metoffice are giving us here in Leicester 'heavy snow' for Friday on their 5 day forecast.
Just been to check the temperature outside and the car's temp guage is saying it's -5! Must be another very dry night though as there's no frost on any of the windows.

lubeybooby · 07/02/2012 22:28

No frost here either it's veeeery very dry.

Heavy snow Friday - I hope so that would be excellent for the weekend. Long as it doesn't stop my daughter going to her dads, or stop my guest getting here, or both. Any indication what time it might be? Through the day or evening/night?

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 07/02/2012 22:35

doh, go out one evening (to a meeting) and the weather decides to be all interesting thursday night/friday. Typical. upper air temps are forecast to be cooler than they showed this morning. central and eastern areas look most vulnerable.
My brain is fried tonight (could cry with tiredness), so will try to update tomorrow afternoon (fraid it wont be in the morning)

PeneloPeePitstop · 07/02/2012 22:35

broadcast doh! FORECAST.
Bloody fibro fog.

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 07/02/2012 22:35

thursday night into Friday lubey.

lubeybooby · 07/02/2012 22:45

Thanks Thanks

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 07/02/2012 22:46

:) will try to make more sense tomorrow!

letseatgrandma · 07/02/2012 22:50

I can't see any heavy snow forecast on the Met Office website?

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 07/02/2012 22:53

here LEG, not looked in detail at other areas....

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 07/02/2012 22:54

right, g'night all. shiver sleep well

letseatgrandma · 07/02/2012 23:00

Ok, right. That's my region too. It says 'a few snow flurries'-I thought someone said heavy snow!

lubeybooby · 08/02/2012 01:12

Ha! 1am check in, -7c

So we were far more right than weather.co.uk's caffiene/LSD/whatever fuelled projections of -13 and also more right than the met office more conservative -4.

MegGriffin · 08/02/2012 07:09

BBc just said maybe up to 20Cm for some Thurs in to Friday!

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 07:38

Official met office temp was -7.1C Grin

LEG - the pictograms were of clouds with 2 snow flakes - now down to 1 snow flake but for a looong time.

So, we start again on the snow forecasting! Not much time this am but will be able to look in depth later on Once again though mostly an eastern and central affair I think as rain moving south encounters the colder air in these regions. Starting thursday night for Midlands and reaching southern areas pretty quickly. Snow accumulations could be significant in many areas that saw snowfall in the last round.

So we await the met office warnings Grin

lubeybooby · 08/02/2012 07:49

OYWWQ :o yeahhhh hi five!

I seem to be just on the edge of the cold air... sandwiched between predictions for heavy snow/snow and minging 'orrible sleet. Hmm

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 07:53

I seem to squeeze in on the right side of the cold air but light snow all the way through.

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 07:55

some light flurries possible again today for central and eastern parts.

inmysparetime · 08/02/2012 07:55

Looks like the usual cold but rainy for meSad. How come it still manages to rain at -3 here and others get snow at 2 or 3 degrees?

OhyouWickedWickedQuilp · 08/02/2012 08:06

Tis generally down to the upper air temperatures inmysparetime.

Tortoise · 08/02/2012 08:12

Please could you tell me if there is any chance of snow in Somerset sometime soon? DDs are still disappointed that they didn't get to go sledging at the weekend!
