No met ofice warnings at the moment and the path of the storm is still uncertain, but at the moment I think there is potential for widespread severe gales - just unsure of where atm.

OP posts:
ProfessorSunny · 02/01/2012 11:18

everywhere except the far north west of Scotland at the moment, but, looking outside at the blue skies and brilliant sunshine, I am sceptical.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 11:19

The calm before the storm?! Grin

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 11:21

look at T+24 to see the pressure charts for midnight tonight. rather impressive looking!

ProfessorSunny · 02/01/2012 11:21

No. I am being all optimistic and positive and will not carry any truck with the idea of a big storm, I have laundry to get dry :)

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 11:22

:) might be worth fetching it in this evening Wink

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 11:23

Going to be a bit of a shock to the system going back to work in the am in the midst of rain and gales!

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2012 12:28

Looks like you're right, the warnings have been changed OYBBK.

mankyscotslass · 02/01/2012 12:40

Absolutely gorgeous here today - we spotted snowdrops in the park when we were out on our bikes. Sunny, not to cold and a bit of a breeze.

Tomorrow might be a shock.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 15:19

oh that is quite cool Gloria Grin

same here Manky - am on a grand cleanathon and have had the windows open to rearrange the dust.

ProfessorSunny · 02/01/2012 15:30

laundry is dry, reluctantly avoids putting more out to dry...optimism waning slightly now :)

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 15:31

good job Prof!

ProfessorSunny · 02/01/2012 15:32

lol at rearranging the dust, may I steal that one?! :)
Thanks very muchly Kitten :)

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2012 15:38

Warnings have changed again!

Grin at 'cleanathon' and 'windows open to rearrange the dust'! I did 'rearrange the dust' earlier on but my big cleanathon's going to wait as DDs don't go back to school 'til next Monday.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 17:16

those are the warnings I saw - are they very different from before?

Could get quite rough in the north west and around blackpool/liverpool area in the afternoon, I think the warning needs to cover that area better.

I am almost done! dh is washing the kitchen floor then I'll do a hot wash of all the cloths we used. (exciting eh!) I'm back at work tomorrow. lucky dd gets an extra day. The house was very bad especially under our bed where we seemed to be growing another cat.

mankyscotslass · 02/01/2012 17:42

DH back at work tomorrow, but the kids here are off til the 10th - I have to go in on the 9th for an inset day though.

Poor kids were wild to be out today, it's the first decent dry day in ages.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 19:29

Starry night here - if you have the same then go and admire Jupiter so close and bright to the moon. A little bit stunning.

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2012 20:13

Hope everyones 'dust rearranging' is done!

OYBBK ~ I thought the metoffice changed the warnings by adding an amber warning for snow over Scotland and a yellow one over the south coast. Then again, maybe I'm still hungover from NYE I'm seeing things.

I shall go and have a look and see if we've got a starry night.

GloriaSmud · 02/01/2012 20:50

Reporting back ~ moon's behind the clouds so no starry night here.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 02/01/2012 22:02

thats a shame Gloria.

Well the storm looks very much on track, with a noisy start to the morning for those in the west and south. Worst of the winds for the south will be in the morning - gusts generally 50-60mph quite widely but with a squall line developing, and especially close to the southern coast gusts could reach 70mph+ for a short while. Am also still keeping an eye on the Blackpool area for severe gales. Dont be surprised if we get associated thunder. Reports of damage would be gratefully accepted (as long as its not my house!). Heavy rain is likely. Nasty day.

For Scotland, especially the east I think the worse will be mid afternoon and if a sting jet forms then gusts 80mph+ are likely. Dont forget that if snow develops then blizzard conditions will ensue - not a day to be travelling about so stay tuned to local news.

Will do a quick update before work (as long as we have power, it goes out if a squirrel sneezes round here)

Pascha · 03/01/2012 07:01

Good morning! Is it sad that, on hearing the howling wind outside, the first place I think of to check what's going on is here and not the weather/news sites?

It sounds horrendous outside. I refuse to open the curtains or step out of bed yet.

totallyscunnered · 03/01/2012 07:06

I just started a thread about this Blush

NW Ireland and it is blowing a hoolie.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/01/2012 07:20

Morning! Pretty windy out there from around 5am here. Due to get worse over the next couple of hours and slowly subsiding by early afternoon. Not the case though in Scotland where the afternoon could be particularly bad.

latest warnings encompass more of southern england than the did last night.

off to look at what is going on....

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/01/2012 07:22

hmm, sting jet seems to be forming over Scotland, that is what has given Ireland such a bad battering.

OhyouBadBadkitten · 03/01/2012 07:23

heads up Glasgow-Edinburgh area. Looking nasty over the next couple of hours.

LaurieFairyCake · 03/01/2012 07:23

I'm in the south east and the wind woke me this morning, howling up the side passage and whipping the trees outside.

It's dead windy
