Massive warning at the start of this thread. I'm not a qualified meteorologist, just a very keen amateur. I do frequently get things wrong and sometimes I miss things when life gets very busy (which it is rather atm) But, I'll do my best to give people a heads up to snow forecasts as we get them, as long as you all promise not to sue/hate me when it all goes horribly wrong.

So first area to highlight is the western side of Scotland including the highlands and part of central Scotland. Met office have warnings Sunday/into Monday

Also very worth being aware that towards the end of this week, hilly parts of northern England including the Pennines (and perhaps welsh hills too?) may well get some snow by the end of the working week.

Sigh, no thanks. We had enough of the stuff last year.

I suspect those of you who want snow:
a) Don't work
b) Don't have children at school
c) Live near a supermarket
d) Basically aren't inconvenienced by snow

I used to love snow, but last year we were virtually cut off and it was horrible.

Will be watching this thread with interest. North west England and no snow here yet. If we get any I will report back.Xmas Smile

snow snow snow snow!!!!

OhYouBadBadReindeer · 03/12/2011 22:10

interesting - bbc news just said poss snow in nw England by Monday, bit of a new development. Some models also seem to be showing the potential for more widespread snow next fri/weekend.
Tis quite tricky, I think there will be lots of false calls about snow this week and surprises for some as its all a bit borderline. Certainly the forecasts are suddenly looking more wintery than they were a day or so ago.

Map looks white all over Scotland on news just now. Doubt it means what I want it to...

GloriaSmud · 04/12/2011 08:34

OYBBK - as the weather's looking 'a bit borderline' when it comes to forecasting snow, it'll be interesting to see what sort of forecast Countryfile does later on, for the end of the week.
The message~boarders on met-monkey are certainly getting very excited about the possibility of snow and one did mention a day or two ago, that he thought that snow was going to be more of a widespread thing rather than just confined to Scotland/Northern England.

habbibu · 04/12/2011 08:36

Snow on the Sidlaw hills (across from Perth to Angus) today, so I can at least see snowy peaks from my window.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 04/12/2011 08:40

Marking place, OYBBK's snow thread is part of Advent for me now Grin Thanks

I'll put in a request for 6pm Christmas Eve - Boxing Day snow please and thanks.Thaw on the 27th Grin.

Light snow Monday in Eastern Scotlland so it looks like a good part of Scotland will be seeing snow over the next 36 hours.

GentleOtter · 04/12/2011 10:13

The sky is 'full of snow yet to fall' as my dad would say.

LizJonesStolenSperm · 04/12/2011 10:15

Snow here in West yorkshire Xmas Smile

CharminglyOdd · 04/12/2011 10:18

Is it snowing in Durham? Am on the edges of the city and I can see the dark clouds - have my fingers crossed and trying to ignore the fact that I use East Coast Mainline trains to commute so every time something goes wrong in Scotland I get stuck!

Tequilamockinbird · 04/12/2011 10:24

Sleet in Newcastle, brrr
