in central scotland, fife and perthshire?

I have to get to a very important appointment and will have a new baby and preschooler in the car.

Surely though the councils will have learned by last week and at least ensure snowplough and gritters are out more quickly and frequently

AitchTwoOh · 14/12/2010 15:15

oh blimmin' heck i can see i am going to have to do supermarket shop tomoz.

kitten, should i start planning for christmas at home? we are supposed to drive across central scotland on the big day...

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 14/12/2010 15:17

Depends tho Saltire - the road south out of our village is in a sort of cleft between high sides and is steep. Never gritted and horrible in all bad weather. Tesco could get as far as a mile away from me and give up Xmas Grin. Ditto the buses.

Maybe I won't save up for a car, I'll buy a reindeer sleigh.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 15:30

:) sorry - I remembered I was supposed to be doing some real life stuff!

ok.

Aitch - too early to tell atm Temps look a bit marginal with this model run for Christmas day itself. GFS shows a lot of precipitation, just not sure which it would be.

nosnow - again ditto, all I can say at the moment for you is that it does look cold next wednesday at the moment. GFS doesnt show precipitation around Leeds for then but there again it missed a lot with the last lot of snow as it can tend to pop up very quickly. You'll need to check back closer to the time I'm afraid. Monday you should get a better picture.

Ladywellian - I think travel through the SW could still be tricky. around London - i'm not sure? Its possible saturday might be tricky with some snow along the south coast - I don't know if it will make it up to London. GFS suggests not - but I think it is struggling with this feature.

How amazing to have our own meteorologist to talk to!

irishqueensspeech · 14/12/2010 15:53

he loves weather and cats
i have bough him weather club subscrip for xmas ... is that a pish present?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 15:59

can I emphasise the amateur bit harecare - I am very much self taught and get things wrong loads! :)

Irishqueen, I've never heard of weather club - I'll have to have a look. Sounds good!

MissAnthropy · 14/12/2010 16:01

OYBBK, you have the power to make or break my year.

It's all going wrong.

Please tell me it's going to snow in Norfolk. In the next hour if possible.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 16:02

weather club looks interesting :) I wonder who their experts are (I know a few real meteorologists and know of others (their expertise puts me to shame!))

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 16:04

Missantrhopy I would say your chances are quite reasonable, certainly by the end of the weekend unless all the models switch before then.

SnowMuchToBits · 14/12/2010 16:04

Are we going to get much snow in Ipswich on Thursday? BBC weather ays sleet and met office light snow, but do you think it might actually be more?

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 16:06

ermmm. I don't think so Snowmuch - I 8think* the bbc is being quite accurate there.

laughalot · 14/12/2010 16:08

Snowy kitten what are your thoughts for the north east midlands please its my dh xmas party Grin.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 14/12/2010 16:13

Please please ca we have some here in cambridge.. missed most of it last time and feel very left out.

MissAnthropy · 14/12/2010 16:13

My fil adores the weather. Is there anything online he can look at that's a bit geeky but simple enough for somebody with a passing interest? Where do you get all your info?

If it doesn't snow, I'm holding you personally responsible.

GentleOtter · 14/12/2010 16:21

BadKitten, thank you for your forecasts. It is well appreciated and we can panic buy forward plan.

There are hot mince pies and mulled wine on a farm on a lonely Perthshire hill with your name on them. Xmas Grin

PaxoIsEvil · 14/12/2010 16:22

I love your forecasts OYSSK. And you've been more reliable than the beeb Grin

piratecatClaus · 14/12/2010 16:25

oybbk

hi!

I am supposed to be travelling by train from south devon to kent starting out sunday morning.

returning kent to devon on wednesday the 22nd.

absolutely have to get back to devon for xmas, as people flying in to visit from spain.

i have till thursday morning to cancel my tickets and get a refund. really in a quandry. If we get a huge amount Exeter way upwards towards bristol and swindon, on thursfriday, will i be able to travel sunday. grrr i really don't know what to do. Ifg there's a big freeze then the tracks will be affected even if there's not too much snowfall further into london and down into kent, as there is supposed to be lots of rain isn't there.

Looks like mainly rain in kent all thru to my supposed trip back down to devon wednesday afternoon.

just a thought from you on this would be great.x

LadyWellian · 14/12/2010 16:39

Thanks Badkitten. I love a bit of snow but really hope the weather does not ruin my first ever 'Christmas hosting' experience. I will be beside myself if my parents are stranded. We also have PILs driving up from Surrey and my Aunt driving up from Wiltshire on the day.

Plus I'm supposed to be going to Chester on business this Thursday, and it really will be very bad indeed if I get stuck there.

Xmas Sad
OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 16:51

will be back to look later - real life calls!

MarshaBrady · 14/12/2010 16:52

Bad Kitten you are very helpful!!

How about flying on Friday from Heathrow? (almost too scared to ask!!)

Horton · 14/12/2010 17:28

You're a good sort, BadKitten, and very kind to help out with all our queries. Could I possibly ask what you think Gatwick will be like next week? Or is it too early to say?

Chaotica · 14/12/2010 18:00

OYBBK - It seems that you are no longer a mortal. More like an oracle. Grin

Itsfarkinfreezing · 14/12/2010 18:51

Right OYBBK, when you are back from RL (how very dare you Xmas Wink) please could you answer me two questions:

Would you drive from Kent to Shropshire on Thurs or Fri or not at all?

If I am in Shropshire over the weekend, what are the chances of me getting home to Kent safely early next week?

I'm sorry to put you on the spot and I know, despite your general marvellousness, you are not actually omnipotent but if you could give me a clue I'd be grateful. Met Office and BBC seem to be contradicting each other and I'm very confused and I want to see my parents before Christmas

Thanks OYBBK Smile

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 18:52

oh blimey.

ok, quick look at models and then I've a bit to do before returning later.
