winterpetunia · 13/12/2010 19:27

Graupel

panettoinydog · 13/12/2010 21:10

fantastic. I know the stuff.

rosieposey · 13/12/2010 22:04

Marking my place Grin we arent that far from Wales and are at the top end of the South West (excited) We hardly got sod all in the last lot so am hoping for some snow days in the coming couple of weeks for DH so that he can work from home.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 13/12/2010 22:09

Oooo, weather warnings for Devon.

Sadly I am needing to collect textbooks, go on horrible bus journeys and do the Father Christmas visits this weekend.

Still - snow Xmas Grin

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 13/12/2010 22:10

OYBBK taught me all about graupel - tis my new favourite word. It's polystyrene snow.

rosieposey · 13/12/2010 22:45

Sue, snow will make the running about even more fun. I wish i still lived in Exeter ... you might get a good dousing in Devon by the looks of the met office warnings ... maybe i can sneak in a visit to my mum's in Ivybridge - i want snow! (stamps foot)

bramblebooks · 13/12/2010 23:21

O lorry. Just had the burst pipes fixed after the last lot.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 08:36

Morning all, not much to add at this point. Just a bump so that anyone travelling n thursday and friday, particularly in the west is aware :) Don't want to see any of the mners being interviewed on the bbc after being stuck on a motorway overnight!

How dramatically the snowy and cold weather arrives is dependant on a number of factors, if it goes wrong/right then you could all be saying 'wtf was BadKitten on about?' but no matter how vigorous the cold front ends up being, it will still herald the arrival of deep cold and for some much snow.

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 14/12/2010 13:12

updated advisories

I am so sorry dietcoke. Which days are you most concerned about?

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 14/12/2010 13:45

Thursday and Friday. Will message you location so as not to out myself in RL!

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 14/12/2010 13:48

Are they expecting it to clear in the SW before the 22/23rd OYBBK do you think?

Cunningly I have been running down the store cupboards for my big online shop to be delivered just before Christmas. I'll be serving corner shop pot noodles if that doens't get through!

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 13:48

cool :) What I can do is give you some real specifics tomorrow evening as the timings get tied down.

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 14/12/2010 13:50

Thanks OYBBBK. Off to buy some blankets for the car!

Dumbledoresfairy · 14/12/2010 13:51

Please no snow or icy roads in the M4 corridor on Thursday. Dh flies into Heathrow on Thursday and I need him home! It would be fun though for the children to miss the last day of term (always a waste of time) and for dh to be unable to get to work (in Wales) given the amount of blood his boss has extracted from him lately Angry

For those worrying about south Wales/Bristol: we had virtually no snow a fortnight ago. Depsite the entire country supposedly being covered Hmm Mind you, that means nothing this time around...

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 13:54

Sue - depends on how far SW at the moment. The tip of cornwall - probably. GFS seems to suggest more of a warm up on Wednesday and thursday through the SW but I'm not actually that convinced by it yet. I think that we aren't really going to get a clearer picture until after Saturday when we see what the low pressure (that is set to give the south a real pasting atm) does in reality. The models are really struggling.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 14/12/2010 13:55

Dumbldore - what timeish does he land? Unfortunately this whole thing on thursday/friday is set to be a much more westerly thing this time round.

PussinJimmyChoos · 14/12/2010 13:56

Arghh! What about my plans to go to Devon for the weekend?? Getting train on Fri am...

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 14/12/2010 13:56

It comes in weirdy pockets down here Dumbledore doesn't it - we're in a kind of weird channel between Exmoor and Dartmoor and seem to get all the snow going! My parents are 15 miles up the road and get none. We've still got snow down (only where it was piled, everything else has melted) in shady places but the next town had but a few flakes.

Tis a mystery Xmas Grin

TinselinaBumSquash · 14/12/2010 13:57

Oh noooooo the panto i am in has already been postponed once becuase of arsing snow, now it looks like snow from Thur onwards... were ment to be preforming on Sat

Im in West Sussex. Sad

patienceplease · 14/12/2010 14:00

Can anybody advise me(OYBBK??) - I have to drive from dorset to south wales at the end of this week - better to go thursday afternoon or friday afternoon? I'm trying to decide. I'm veering towards thursday - not as much snow would have fallen (i hope) but OTOH I might have to drive through snow falling... Friday there would be more snow on the ground but perhaps not falling??? Argh! I have been making notes from the thread about what to have in the car!

Dumbledoresfairy · 14/12/2010 14:05

Dh lands at 2 pm OYSSK. I reckon on an hour max to get through customs and get to his car, and then we are 2 hours up the M4. So I am hoping he will be safely home by 5. He is trying to get back for dd's and ds3's school play which is in the evening.

I was fretting about snow closing Heathrow a few days ago, but that doesn't seem likely now. It is just getting up the M4 safely that might be the issue. [worried]

NoahAndTheWhale · 14/12/2010 14:08

What does York look like for snow? Still have some of the old bits hanging around but rain today is helping.
