OP, can I come and live with you? Your diet sounds amazing.

I have an outdoor yoga class this morning so planning on a big portion of soy yoghurt and berries when I get back. Then tonight is one of the Iceland vegan pizzas - hummous base, black kale and mushroom. One of my favourites.

Saturday always needs to be a bit of an easy day for me!

SerenityNowwwww · 12/09/2020 09:52

Sorry to barge in... we were having a discussion yesterday about vegan (the ones we knew as student Vs today’s vegans). Back in the day it wasn’t unusual for a vegan to not eat yeast, honey, figs etc as well as a avoid ready made, bleached foods etc and never wear leather etc.

Is it much the same now? Everyone seems to have ‘several vegan friends’ these days - although someone was telling me that their ‘oh I’m vegan’ colleague ‘allows’ herself bacon at the weekend...

Vegans don't eat honey and they definitely don't eat bacon at the weekend.

Not sure why a vegan wouldn't eat figs or yeast though. Nutritional yeast has always been a favourite amongst vegans.

SerenityNowwwww · 12/09/2020 12:25

Figs is something to go with the bugs dying in fertilisation (bees?) and yeast (it being a ‘living’ thing).

EveryPlanetHasAYorkshire · 12/09/2020 12:45

But plants are a living thing as well surely...Confused?. Obviously plants aren't sentient...but neither is yeast.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 14:17

Ref. figs, they wouldn't exist without the tiny wasp that fertilises them, showing that in nature there are very odd things, also according to a beekeeper on the telly bees make much more honey than they need, so the humans do them a favour as long as it's in a humane way!

i don't eat it because it's soo sweet.

B.Fresh plums, cooked lightly ( with water and pear juice) added to my strawberry, raspberry smoothie.
L. HM pesto/mushrooms on spelt toast
S.Leftover breakfast smoothie

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 14:24

True Planet . Ref. mac N Cheese I keep the liquid from the tin of beans, to add back into the blender till it gets to the consistency I like which after cooking usually turns out to be quite thick. But I use rice pasta so maybe that gives it a thicker result! Who knows!

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 14:26

Cricket How was the yoga class? it was outside , lovely but what happens if it rains?

cricketmum84 · 12/09/2020 15:21

@ppeatfruit it was good!! They also have a barn that can comfortably sit 6 which is the maximum class size with social distancing so usually the class is in the barn but she likes to take it outdoors whenever possible.

I really enjoyed it. I've been awake since 1 this morning with a real knot of anxiety in my chest but the 10 mins of meditation at the start and end of the class laid out in her farmyard surrounded by butterflies, chickens and ducks was so so relaxing that now I feel amazing!

Even though I did get chased by wasps (note to self stay away from the banana shampoo and bright colours 😂😂)

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 12/09/2020 17:45

Wasp chase aside that sounds lovely @cricketmum84

I eat figs. I love them. Even though I cried all the way through the Natural World episode about the fig tree wasp. Might have also been because Ian Holm narrated it so beautifully and j was pregnant at the time.

Snuck away to San Diego for a weekend with my bestie. Had mung bean soup before we left and then went for sushi and I gorged on edamame, seaweed salad, miso eggplant, avocado roll and a delicious vegan roll with asparagus, cucumber, cress and other lovely things

And lots of booze

Breathmiller · 12/09/2020 17:54

Just a heads up that Aldi have a few nice vegan things in at the moment.
Bean Kind dark chocolate truffles and they are delicious
And vegan marshmallows which we are going to toast soon.

Breathmiller · 12/09/2020 17:59

My 'cheesy' pasta is so simple.

Drain the cooked pasta. Add in plant milk, grated violife cheese, Engivita, spinach, pepper and gently cook through. It thickens so well even without a white sauce. I'm then a complete heathen and have it with tomato ketchup Grin
It's one of my favourite quick and easy meals.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 18:02

Are you properly settled in the USA or over temporarily Ijumped ? San D sounds like it has lovely places to eat. My memory of it was, it was much nicer than LA and having an incredible brunch in the Coranado Hotel in the early 90s, not vegan of course!

Do you live in the countryside Cricket?

Pringlemonster · 12/09/2020 18:04

Today has been
4packets of crisps
1 per meal and one for a snack

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 18:05

Yes Breath Engeivita thickens up things nicely. I'll try that for a quick sauce for pasta.

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 18:10

Cricket We are overrun by wasps here, (they love the leftover cat food ) they're not threatening unless we wave our arms about. I just usher them out with a large t cloth! A bit tricky when you're in a yoga position though !!!!!

SerenityNowwwww · 12/09/2020 18:14

Us too - is it wasp season or something? They don’t bother me but ‘others’ in the household...

cricketmum84 · 12/09/2020 18:16

@ppeatfruit yes we are surrounded by fields and farms which is lovely. I promise I wasn't waving arms around lol! They were just particularly angry wasps who really wanted to land on my face. Plus I am absolutely phobic of them which doesn't help!! I was in warrior 2 pose with shaking thighs when the second one struck 😂😂

Oh San Diego sounds lovely @IJumpedAboardAPirateShip!

cricketmum84 · 12/09/2020 18:17

@SerenityNowwwww yes September is when the queens die off and all the worker wasps literally have nothing to do so just go looking for sugary stuff and scared people to sting 😂

SerenityNowwwww · 12/09/2020 18:18

Shhhhhhhh - I keep telling my brave boys that wasps don’t sting...

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 18:26

Only if you wave about Serenity .Like hornets , which are sweet unless they get freaked by some hysterical human. (then they have been known to return home a get their family to attack too!!).

I won't mention the outcome Shock , but it's very rare

ppeatfruit · 12/09/2020 18:27

DH has only recently learned to be calm with wasps !!!!

SerenityNowwwww · 12/09/2020 19:04

Waving hysterical humans... Check, check and... check 🤣
IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 12/09/2020 20:49

The air quality is a little better than LA at the moment at least here

@ppeatfruit we’ve been here 8.5yrs, I am constantly petitioning to move back to the U.K.
