You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Thank you everyone Flowers.

I've had a lovely weekend seeing family, with no work whatsoever done. Lots of good food, good wine and good conversation.

They shouldn't, but the Bob stories always make me smile. When I was an NQT I had some apology letters from students, which I stupidly left in my desk when I left. Always wish I'd kept them.

ArnottsUnderpass · 03/05/2021 21:44

Hope all goes well Brie xx

Movement at my school too. Rumours about the HoD who's been the bane of my life having resigned. I am not getting my hopes up yet but lord it would be good 🙈

Monkeytennis97 · 03/05/2021 21:46

Checking in, thanks Staff.

Sorry haven't been around much- hope everyone is ok and vaccines are coming to all.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 21:48

This is the video that inspired my name and ds and I choosing the honey badger for our family crest. Our motto is, never surrender! Swearing warning on that video Jan.

I'm paranoid about my ankle now. Dr google says if it hurts to the touch over the bone area it's likely a fracture. I'm ignoring it because I can only imagine how many years you'd spend in A&E awaiting an xray and I'm awful at waiting rooms.

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/05/2021 21:52

I leave you alone for one afternoon and it all kicks off Wink I love a bit of a swear. Apparently when giving birth I shocked dh, the midwives and the women in the rooms around me with my extensive, vocabulary of obscenities. I don't tend to swear much in normal life but it seems I collect interesting swear words for appropriate occasions. (I didn't swear when I have birth to dd1, cos my mum was my birth partner that time and I still never swear in front of her!)

I've never had an apology letter for swearing. There have been several different outcomes as a result of pupils swearing at me, from the hoy who asked what I'd done to provoke the delightful young man, to the young man where it was the last straw and therefore the last time I ever saw him.

I'm sorry you're having a tough time dreaming, I hope things are resolved quickly. Chin up. Flowers

DreamingofBrie · 03/05/2021 21:58

HoneyBadger, I fractured my ankle when I was 12 - a hairline fracture but I couldn't put any weight on it at all until it was in plaster, remember my dad carrying me into A and E in the early hours. Which bone is it, one in the foot or ankle? Might be a bad sprain after the fall - dd fell on holiday and I thought she'd broken her ankle (couldn't put any weight on it). Turner out to be damaged ligaments- the wobble board and lots of walking (with crutches) helped.

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 22:29

Is there a minor injuries unit near you Honey? They can do x-rays, you don't have to go to A&E. If you put your symptoms into 111.nhs.uk/?utm_source=nhsuk&utm_campaign=nhs_services&utm_content=nhs_111 they will give you the nearest options.

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 22:40

Hey Monkey, hope you and your DS are well!

Monkeytennis97 · 03/05/2021 22:44

@noblegiraffe hiya😊 Yes all fine. He has his second vaccine soon 😊 DH and I are in a month for vaccine 2. Looking forward to seeing him soon too 😊

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 23:44

That’s great to hear that you’re seeing him soon and close to fully jabbed :)

HerdyGerdy · 04/05/2021 06:48

Hope you’re ok, dreaming.
Thank you for the interview qs, MrsH. I’ve now got a list of 70-odd to practice.
Excellent news on jabbing, monkey.

Am sad I missed the f-bombs chat. I love swearing.

eitak22 · 04/05/2021 06:57

Dreaming Hope things get resolved quickly and you're OK.

Also beginning to wonder how trainees are vetted after reading certain things.

motherrunner · 04/05/2021 07:03

Morning all. So, Yr 11 would have found out at the weekend via school comms that they would be sitting an extra assessment for my subject. Not looking forward to facing them P3. Half term yet?

In much more pleasing news, I am going f to the hairdressers tomorrow after school!

Iamnotthe1 · 04/05/2021 07:05

I don't know if this is anyone else but I didn't used to swear that much before becoming a teacher. I think having to be so concious about what I say during school hours has caused me to swear a lot more frequently outside of them.

namechangedyetagain · 04/05/2021 07:19

@eitak22 in what way?

Cannot believe that's the weekend gone. Even with the best of intentions I can never catch up with myself. Have to say though I did take 2 days off this weekend and slept, had a film night and cuddled my children.

I really needed it.

MrsHamlet · 04/05/2021 07:21

eitak
In my experience the "vetting" is often - especially for shortage subjects - do you have £9250? Can you pass a DBS check?

You're in.

BigBobBoots · 04/05/2021 07:22

Belated signing in, thanks for the new thread staff.
Happy return everyone- a 4 day week!
I hope all goes smoothly today brie

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 04/05/2021 07:40

Morning all. Really disappointed to have missed the discussion on fuck - especially as no one mentioned that it can be used as a unit of measurement a metric fuckton
Sorry to hear about the crap situation at school dreaming, I really hope it smooths out.
Great news about jabs monkey.
Iamnotthe1 me too! When I first met DH's family, they were shocked at how much I swore "but you're a teacher!"
How's the ankle this morning honey?

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2021 07:47

Do even shortage subjects have to pay fees now?

It’s the bone on the outside of the ankle. Still swollen but local to that point and hurts to touch the bone area. I’m going to try wearing a support this week if it’s still the same by Saturday that will be two weeks and I’ll talk to my doctor.

Good luck today to those working. I’ve got to knuckle down to some marking.

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/05/2021 07:49

Know what you're referring to @eitak22, we’ve commented in the past on that situation...... some are still doing sterling work trying to point out realities.

eitak22 · 04/05/2021 07:58

@MrsHamlet It was the same when I was at uni, couple of people who made it onto the 4 year shouldn't have.

@namechangedyetagain Referring to a thread I'd posted on. Think lots of people join training with a perception of teaching and it isn't always like how they thought. I know my cohort was a 3rd the size in our 3rd year compared to 1st year where there weren't enough seats for us all.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2021 07:58

I’ve looked at some diagrams and I’m not too worried. There are some ligaments there that would definitely have been hit hard by the way I turned my ankle and how much weight fell on it and they take some time to recover.

I’ll see how I go with the support and wobble board exercises. Thanks for concern.

HobnobbingAboutHobnobs · 04/05/2021 08:04

I'm such a last minute merchant - I have studiously ignored the class set of 2x 1hr papers that I was going to mark over the long weekend. It's now my day off, so I get to juggle a toddler and mark schemes. What an idiot! 🙄

DanglingMod · 04/05/2021 08:53

Checking in to new thread.

Monkey - long time, no see. Glad to hear all well.

Dreaming - whatever it is, I wish you well Flowers

Back to the mad House. When is half term, again? Wink

JanFebAnyMonth · 04/05/2021 09:13

@eitak22 you know there’s (ehem) a few more threads than just one?
