You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

Thanks staff!

motherrunner · 03/05/2021 10:21

Thanks staff.

I’ve been for a run, showered and back in pjs. Total wash out here today!

ChloeDecker · 03/05/2021 10:26

Checking in! Ta muchly Staff!

PumpkinPie2016 · 03/05/2021 10:44

Checking in- thanks staff

I have marked a set of Y11 papers and paper 1 A-level this weekend. I am actually pleased with both- they have done pretty well. More papers will be done next week!

Done a bit of ironing this morning and been to tesco for some bits. Chilling at home for the rest of the day as it's cold and rainy here.

CallmeHendricks · 03/05/2021 10:46

Can you please mark me 'Present' on the register?

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 03/05/2021 10:46

Thanks staff!

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 11:16

Thanks staff!

I went for a pub lunch yesterday and despite rain being forecast, it was fine and even a bit sunny. And my lunch was delicious.

Thank god we didn't book for today!

ChloeDecker · 03/05/2021 11:20

And my lunch was delicious.

We went for a pub lunch on the 12th April and just having proper crunchy chips was like nectar from heaven! Made even the light shower during lunch we had that day, worth it

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/05/2021 11:22

Here, Miss!

WhenSheWasBad · 03/05/2021 11:22

Ooh I’m here. Bit gutted that the weather is rubbish. But at least I’ve no marking to do for a little while.

JanFebAnyMonth · 03/05/2021 11:23

We tried some frozen ‘pub style’ chips the other day and were quite impressed....

Piggywaspushed · 03/05/2021 11:33

I went for a pub lunch for the first time since lord knows when yesterday. In the Cotswolds. Really sunny and a nice temperature when sun out. Lovely.

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 11:35

Hope you cooked them first, Jan!

I think religions are onto something with things like Lent and giving stuff up for a bit. I always supposed it was the deprivation that was meant to bring you closer to God, but clearly it's the taste of a properly nice gravy after not being allowed it for ages that is really heavenly.

HarrietDVane · 03/05/2021 11:37

Place marking - thanks for the new thread @StaffRepFeistyClub

Miserable weather here today. Marking up to date and all prepped for my observation (subject to last minute tweaking before Thursday). Today I shall mainly be catching up with housework...

CarrieBlue · 03/05/2021 11:50

Thanks Staff!

I have two students doing exams this year - yes, students, not groups! - but I’m stuck in with DH marking endless gcse and A-level papers Confused

Good job the weather is crap

cornercupboard · 03/05/2021 11:51

Thanks Staff
I've been out for a 6 mile walk, now on the sofa feeling smug with some coffee, got housework on the agenda. DC has gone out with a friend for lunch somewhere, "don't nag, mother" but did consent to taking raincoat thank goodness.
Some v funny Line of Duty things out there today. Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 11:53

Thanks staff.

Just back from gym. Did weights for the first time because my ankle still isn’t right. I’m now broken and very glad I’m not working tomorrow. Friend suggested going again tomorrow but I’m not convinced I’ll be able to move!

Haven’t started marking.

Beachhuts90 · 03/05/2021 11:58

Thanks staff.

I'm hoping our weather forecast of a full week of rain isn't correct. Playtime and forest school are so miserable in the driving rain, and my kids throw themselves into the mud and then complain about having to change.

borntobequiet · 03/05/2021 12:16

I think religions are onto something with things like Lent and giving stuff up for a bit.
One of the few things I retain from my Catholic upbringing is giving things up for Lent (and Advent). It does stop me from bingeing on chocolate, toasted hot cross buns or mince pies before the main event. Has also got me out of tedious Xmas work dos, though I go to the ones I want to.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/05/2021 12:49

I'm still not eating any added sugar. Around 90 days I think. I'm going to keep going, I don't miss it.

Have been out to lunch on every weekend day since 12th April. So fed up with cooking, any opportunity not to is taken.

Have been in Cornwall for the weekend - sunny, looking tropical, but bloody freezing. Woolly hat's for lunches out. Child went in the sea yesterday, she's bonkers. Stopping in at some friends in Somerset on the way home - trying to beat the rain. Looks crap at home.

How are you feeling about holidays abroad this year? Being asked not to go, but.. We all know that Stanley Johnson will be in Greece etc.

RuleWithAWoodenFoot · 03/05/2021 12:49

Rogue typo apostrophe. Sorry!

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 12:51

Good for Rule Jr! I’m bonkers enough to have gone in with her Wink Can’t resist the sea. Safe travels

Trials of modern life:
Have spent the last hour trying to find out how I activate the free one year MS Office sub that supposedly came with my new laptop.

Tried Amazon Chat facility (Why, oh why, I always end up wishing I hadn’t tried to ‘chat’?!) “Michael” disappeared for 35 mins and didn’t reply when I asked if he was still there...

So I hit the Call Me button, chap on phone very promptly and assured me that he wouldn’t leave me without an answer, then put me on hold for 25 mins (Altho he did pop back to assure me he was still there!).

Now he says they can’t get hold of HP (bank hol maybe?) and he’s going to email their details.......
Hmm

Timeturnerplease · 03/05/2021 13:08

Thank you for the new thread.

I’m really feeling for secondary teachers right now. I always envy you your departments, specialists and schemes of work (I pulled two all nighters last year to get our new English curriculum map sorted, on M6 and with no TLR 🤦🏻‍♀️) but the marking stress must be insane right now.
