You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

Do not give the staffroom password to non-staff as it attracts the wrong sort of crowd.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation. Do not sit on the chairs and do wear a mask

I once tried a 'chat' thing with AT&T in the US to try to stop them emailing me the account and banking details of some US customer who had given my email address by accident.

'Can you give me your login details so that we can update the account' NO BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY BLOODY ACCOUNT.

Round and round in circles it went. And I still get the bloody emails.

It's wazzing it down here so I'm glad I met my friend for a walk in the Lakes yesterday.

Marked my first 32 papers. It's pretty clear a lot of the knew the question in advance because they're more or less identical. I also know where that leak came from but there's bog all I can do.

I love being on a thread with English teachers, it really elevates the level of discourse.

MrsHamlet · 03/05/2021 14:15

You should hear me expound the virtues of the word "fuck"!

My thoughts too Grin

Oh I’ve received about one email a month for the last five years from another JanFebAnyMonth in the States. I know all the stores’ mailing lists she’s signed up to, the details of her pest control and DPD accounts, and once was delighted to receive an invite to a hen weekend in Texas. I have tried replying to many, many of these requesting that the address be removed and the person be informed. Never got me anywhere.....

Checking in with snacks. Help yourselves to cake, fruit and biscuit everyone.

Having a lovely chilled day before a busy week of prepping for a council visit next week... why?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/05/2021 14:21

It's wazzing it down here Grin Here too. A good day to write reports. I've done the easy ones, now attempting to write the ones where there really aren't many positives to focus on. It's proving difficult.

HarrietDVane · 03/05/2021 14:30

I am currently (as in, it's a work in progress) updating the curriculum map for my subject and HT has asked me to create a knowledge/skills matrix for each half term block for each year.

It's taking ages.

I'm being given no additional release time for this, nor for the learning walks and book scrutinies she's asked for by May half term. I'm on M5. My goodwill is wearing thin.

Oooh, I’d love to hear this!! Fuck is one of my very favourite swears Grin

Primary really do get shafted with paperwork and marking. Small schools are particularly low on money for TLRs. The workload sounds awful. What's the benefit from all these knowledge maps and skills organisers? Are you making them for kids who can't read? My biggest primary bugbear is marking for kids who can't read it... Just why?!?

Yet again we need more funding for education.

MrsHamlet · 03/05/2021 15:01

Well... it's one of those words that exists comfortably in a range of word classes.

So you can have "a fuck", and also "a fucker".
You can use it as a verb and it's also quite happy modifying other nouns, so you can have "a fucking fucker".
If something is broken "the fucking fucker is fucked".
"Fuck me!" and "fuck you" have very different connotations.
It's great :)

Yep, wholeheartedly agree. Written marking has zero impact before KS2.

What's the benefit from all these knowledge maps and skills organisers?

Luckily our school don’t go in for that, BUT we have to design curriculum maps/schemes of work from scratch ourselves, because the government very unhelpfully only split maths and science objectives into year groups.

Worryingly, another village primary about six miles from us got absolutely slated on their Ofsted because they didn’t show enough progression in their non core maps/SOW....no mention whatsoever that these are created by non-specialists, with no money for release time and from a vague curriculum 😡

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 15:03

Fuck me!" and "fuck you" have very different connotations.

And "fuck it"

Excellent-I hadn’t appreciated it was quite so versatile!

I particularly like fuckwit as well. Oh, and ‘get to fuck’!

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 03/05/2021 15:16

There's nothing better than a good old fashioned "fuck off".

MrsHamlet · 03/05/2021 15:38

"Fuuuuuck" is also quite a good one

HarrietDVane · 03/05/2021 15:39

What's the benefit from all these knowledge maps and skills organisers?

A good question and one I asked myself. Apparently they will assist teachers in ensuring that all necessary knowledge and skills are covered when they are delivering the curriculum. I guess they will also assist me if I should be the unlucky victim of a Deep Dive from Ofsted as I will be able to demonstrate skills progression and key knowledge very clearly.

But it's a monstrous task to put it all together whilst simultaneously teaching full time, being subject to formal PM observations and additional monitoring from all the other subject leads who are trying to do the same thing as me.

Marking in primary is crazy. I had assumed that secondary would be worse because there is so much more writing and content though. Plus this year you are suffering the horror of TAGs.

HarrietDVane · 03/05/2021 15:41

My personal favourite from the Pantheon of Fucks is "Oh for fuck's sake!"

HarrietDVane · 03/05/2021 15:42

Autocorrect stole my comma! Mortified. Blush

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 15:48

And you one both can and can't be fucked.

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 15:48

You one? I haven't even cracked open the gin.

Piggywaspushed · 03/05/2021 15:49

Can I add ' Fuck off to the far side of fuck and then when you get there, fuck off some more'?

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 15:50

It can also be a whole sentence in itself.

noblegiraffe · 03/05/2021 15:54

Poor Jan is desperately hoping for the conversation to move on Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 03/05/2021 15:56

Sorry Jan Grin Could be worse, could be the c word.
