The broom cupboard 2 - just for when we get briefly stranded without a staffroom

I'll pop a link in the old one so you know where to find safe haven. I have tried to clear out some space by getting rid of the ohp and vcr trolley and gin is hidden behind the sick sand bucket.

Bad news, folks. Richard Madeley agrees with Anthea Turner and Tim Henman about masks. Big guns.

Has anyone else noticed that on the LFD instructions it says that 12 and up should swab themselves but 11 year olds should be done by an adult. So half of Y7?

I assume they'll be swabbing themselves in school despite the instructions.

Matt Le Tissier has been covid denying all over the place for ages. He is an embarrassment. Not sure how many of those have secondary school aged children.

Where is that from Noble : is that last bit a genuine quotation from their letter? If so, they need to go back to school for some grammar lessons...

Over 150 teachers , medics, scientists and celebrities, eh?? quaking in my boots.

9pmcouchnaps · 06/03/2021 13:05

Oh god the “hurrah they’re back to school” posts are giving me the rage. And then I immediately hate myself a bit for feeling that way, as homeschooling has been really tough for all of us.

The “hurrah I’ve had my vaccine” posts make me feel similar, but then I feel a million times worse for begrudging anyone a vaccine, really.

My MIL just visited. Started off with “try not to worry, just get the first few days out of the way and you’ll be ok” - which I get, it’s kind of her to try and reassure me (I’m beyond reassurance, honestly, but nice of her to try!). However 5 minutes later, talking about going out and holidays etc she said “oh god I can’t even imagine being around more than a few people right now, I mean the very thought of it...”

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 13:11

Awful grammar in the quote from that letter!

But yes, the public will listen to those celebrities more than SAGE/WHO.

U turn on Monday, anyone?

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 13:14

Here's the actual letter, piggy, it's a quote.

usforthem.co.uk/open-letters/no-masks-in-class/

Looking down the list of signatories is pretty funny, tbh. The odious Calvin Robinson is on there of course. Laurence Fox has described himself as a 'politician'.

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 13:14

Oh yes I did notice that (under 12s to be done by an adult) last night Noble, but forgot to include it in my rant about the other bit of the instructions.

Yesterday I know we had at least one sixth former in tears with anxiety about doing the test. What's it going to be like when we get to Y7?

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 13:16

Why are these bloody ‘celebs’ mandating no masks? They’re all bloody older than me too, so no doubt will have had or be lined or for the vaccine too. Plus, you know, they’re afforded SD. The pupils at my school WANT to wear masks. I teach in a predominately Indian heritage school. A lot of children I teach have one or both parents as doctors. Masks do not bother them.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2021 13:18

I think the Venn diagram of people who have signed that letter and those who have signed or agree with the Great Barrington Declaration is probably close to a perfect circle.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/03/2021 13:18

Our year 7 have been told they have to have a parent with them for the first test. I'm not sure SLT have thought about who's testing all these 11yos for their second and third tests when we're taking them out of lessons for testing rather than parents delivering them for the first test. I'm not involved in the testing other than escorting my classes when they go for second and third tests.

Thanks @Staffdontblowitnow

Okay to have a liquid lunch? 😉

And funnily enough those are the kids who were masks properly in my school. Plus they have different ones every day
motherrunner · 06/03/2021 13:20

I mean @StaffRepFeistyClub. What a mistake when I was joking about liquid lunches 😆

JanFebAnyMonth · 06/03/2021 13:22

The letter gets quite a bit right - calls Boris and Gav out on their confusing recommendations which prevent teachers doing their jobs!

Lovely that several vets have signed it.

And people from the racist, misogynistic UNLOCKED, who I bet are co-creators with U4T.

motherrunner · 06/03/2021 13:23

@StaffRepFeistyClub So true. One of my pupil’s (parents both doctors) loves art and textiles. The masks she designs and sews are incredible. But most of all, she recognises the need for protection of the community.

StaffRepFeistyClub · 06/03/2021 13:25

When I was at school as a kid there where plenty of teachers who had a liquid lunch 😂

Yes, 'if schools are safe, why are you recommending masks?' Is indeed a very good question.

TheHoneyBadger · 14/03/2021 13:29

There is rioja and gin today - help yourselves. I'm off for a bath.

The Staffroom has a bathroom?? Thanks honey.

Thoughts also to anyone (everyone?) missing mothers today, for all sorts of reasons. And to any who would wish for different mothers. 🤗

motherrunner · 14/03/2021 13:53

I’ve had a glass of Pinot, had my cry and wiped my tears. Now about to open my Morher’s Day gift - Jr Pictionary. Nothing says ‘I love you’ like thrashing a 9 and 6 year old.

JanFebAnyMonth · 14/03/2021 14:00

Well done mother!

borntobequiet · 14/03/2021 14:02

I think the Staffroom should have a spa, a sauna and a swimming pool as well as endless supplies of gin and chocolate. And maybe a mini cinema. And possibly a snooker table. What use is an imaginary space if you can’t fill it with nice things?

And Cillian Murphy.

I got a box of Dairy Milk and a card bought by DS2 with his Christmas money so that'll do me. DH still trying to claim some credit. I can tell it wasn't him because the card is unusually tasteful and the supplied envelope made it out of the shop.

I got a text from DS1. Apparently he was told to get a card but DS's plans rarely come to fruition. the stamp will have been the sticking point. Boom boom.

I am now making a roast, Normally we go to Nandos or a Chinese Buffet.
