You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Thanks Staff

Stepawayfromtheminirolls · 30/12/2020 16:48

That must be the quickest thread yet?!

Medra · 30/12/2020 16:49

I want to cry. No one should have to go I to work and risk catching this.

Iamnotthe1 · 30/12/2020 16:50

Thanks Staff

And that's exactly how I feel - expendable.

Six hours a day in a 6m by 8m room with 33 other people. No protections, no distancing, I break with them, I eat with them. And now we are going to continue doing that at a time where levels are reaching the highest they have ever been.

Then soon, we'll be told not to self isolate and just test each day instead making the environment even more dangerous.

No. I, for one, will not consent to testing instead of isolating. I am clinically vulnerable. If a child in my class tests positive, I'm isolating until I can be confident any potential tranmission links have ended.

lonelyplanet · 30/12/2020 16:50

Where are our unions?

TheHoneyBadger · 30/12/2020 16:51

Good will gone.

Wasted days recording and setting lessons for my year 7, 8 and 9 classes only to have it change so that even though I've done the work we're not meant to be providing it for some unknown reason. But still not clear if that's true or they'll realise in a few days time that he 'misspoke' so don't know whether to go change the dates on everything or not.

No mention of the fact that the tests are inaccurate and they've confirmed they're not going to isolate close contacts anymore. I'm not sitting in a crowded classroom with known close contacts. I'm absolutely not willing to do that.

starrynight19 · 30/12/2020 16:52

So he is still banging on about this shite testing. It’s like watching a fucking horror show that we are part of.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 16:52

I don’t believe there’s a single local director of public health in this country that would agree with using rapid testing to replace self-isolation in schools. He’s talking bollocks.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2020 16:52

@Thehoneybadger I was wondering that about vulnerable/KW kids. Can't exactly teach them new content while everyone else doesn't do it because then what happens when they all return. Hoping our heaf has some words of wisdom she's fab so I'm sure she will have thought it through.

Useruseruserusee · 30/12/2020 16:53

I feel strange as I presume my primary will be in one of the special Tier 4 areas where we will be closed to most pupils. Just waiting for the list to know for sure.

My son’s school will definitely be one of them as we live in the hottest spot in the country.

PumpkinPie2016 · 30/12/2020 16:54

Also need to try to get in touch with my NQT once we have further details from the head as he will still need support with sorting online lessons etc.

Ours showed a teensy bit of backbone when schools were told to reopen in June but he’s gone to ground since then. He has primary aged children too, I believe. Wonder what he really thinks about this.
HarveySchlumpfenburger · 30/12/2020 16:54

Of course it’s not going to stick. It’s a crap plan in the middle of a global pandemic. Any plan is subject to change.

TheHoneyBadger · 30/12/2020 16:54

It's crazy isn't it Pumpkin? We can't give kw kids an education that other kids aren't getting it - can you imagine the resentment from some parents on here if that was happening?

cantkeepawayforever · 30/12/2020 16:55

Useruseretc,

When you find the list, could you post a link here?

Thanks

AmIReallyThough · 30/12/2020 16:55

Any clue about Years 7-10? Remote learning till 18th? It’s as clear as mud!

NeurotreeWenceslas · 30/12/2020 16:55

Signing in

MrsHamlet · 30/12/2020 16:55

I despair.

Isthatitnow · 30/12/2020 16:55

Where are our unions?

Not doing the job we pay them to. I would happily strike now until I can get out with my resignation. I might literally walk out.

GleamingBaubles · 30/12/2020 16:56

Bastards

ChloeDecker · 30/12/2020 16:56

Better gear up, folks, for some more anger directed at us on Mumsnet...

SantaAssociationRepresentitve · 30/12/2020 16:56

A testing scheme that has an accuracy rate of less than 50% !

I will isolate thanks not rely upon a dodgy test

Thanks, @SantaAssociationRepresentitve

Actually quite unhappy at having to be in. I can't distance nor wear a mask due to the children's SEN. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that none of my pupils in my Tier 4 school get the virus and pass it on to me, shall I? That's about the only defence I've got, but positive mental attitude and all that.
