You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders, and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give the staffroom password just in case it attracts the wrong sort

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the booze is stashed - Thirsty Tuesdays, Fizz Fridays now in operation.

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom and you will receive a detention

Happy New Year from the sickbed. Covid Day 5 and it’s the worst yet. There is no way I want to set foot in a school ever again at the moment.

Saucery · 01/01/2021 12:08

Yes, that thread sounds great! I’ve maintained my weight loss over this holiday because I can go on long walks every day for Christmas Food calories but it’s difficult when back at work. Although I do have an hour for lunch I’ve refused to give up where I leave the building completely and have a walk/quick lunch in the car.

Saucery · 01/01/2021 12:10

Medra hope this is the worst of it for you. Take every bit of time you need before you go back. We had staff return with fatigue, headache and shortness of breath - we need to not buy into that presenteeism any more where Covid is concerned Flowers

@Medra ThanksThanksThanksThanks

MrsHamlet · 01/01/2021 12:12

My office buddy and are terrible pigs. We try to be healthy and then it goes wrong. The going wrong this time is that she's now in charge of the testing regime. As well as teaching and learning, including remote learning. I asked if we could have a pet soldier to keep in the office but it's designated for 2 people (utterly randomly - next door is the same size but for one, and the same size next room is for 3) so she said no but we could have biscuits instead.

HarrietDVane · 01/01/2021 12:13

Flowers @Medra I hope you feel better soon. Definitely stay at home until you are completely well.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/01/2021 12:15

Blwyddyn Newydd dda pawb from N Wales.

Def up for that thread!

CallmeAngelGabriel · 01/01/2021 12:15

Collapses in chair.

I see you've all been taking the piss! Grin But at least I have the moral high ground over you sloths.

Tape=force of habit, but it is in fact a DVD. You'll take the piss even more when I tell you it's Rosemary Conley! But in her defence, I've lost many stones with her (and put them back on) over the years. Tried Joe Wicks with the kids at school during lockdown and put my knee out. He didn't do a proper warm up!

I'm up for a splinter group.

@JanuaryChill

Spot the NC..... 🥶
Nice namechange! I've been meaning to say, by the way, that I have so much respect for school librarians - they always seem to provide that oasis of calm in a busy school. Ours works wonders with our children.

We're lucky to have a school nurse and I think I'm going to send her a gift when we return to school. It was such a busy time for her last term, and this/next term is likely to be tough as well.

Re. testing of pupils at school, I just wanted to put this link here, where Nick Gibb said teachers won't be testing pupils, just in case this turns out to be untrue. At our school, the plan is that parents bring their children in cars, they self-administer the test in the cars and hand them back to ..... I don't know. Hope it doesn't fall to support staff. But no update on this from school since before Christmas.

My Mum used to do Rosemary Conley, Ange. I was never keen because she said you should never have tomato ketchup or salad cream on things. Shock

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 12:24

I'd be up for a splinter thread. I was a half marathon runner 4 years ago but i petered out this year and let my thyroid get the better of me. I need to start 5:2 again and crack on.

@Medra stay home!

phlebasconsidered · 01/01/2021 12:25

We could also include wellbeing stuff and mental health.

JanuaryChill · 01/01/2021 12:32

New thread needed Shock

noblegiraffe · 01/01/2021 12:35

OMG Rosemary Conley blast from the past. I remember her Hip and Thigh diet book, my sister had it when we were teens. I just looked her up, she's 74!

I started doing PE with Joe with the kids in March, having never done workouts before. He's all about exercise for mental health and feeling better and he is just so enthusiastic and positive that I'm not sure I'd have got through this year without him. I think in normal times he's exactly the sort of person that I'd hate.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 12:37

@phlebasconsidered

We could also include wellbeing stuff and mental health.
Absolutely!!😊😊
Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 12:38

@MrsHamlet 😂

CallmeAngelGabriel · 01/01/2021 12:40

She might be 74 but she looks bloody good on it. Mind you, so does Jane Seymour; did you see her pics in the paper, the other day, waving her legs in the air? I can't even bend down to put my socks on without wincing.

MrsHerculePoirot · 01/01/2021 12:42

Rosemary Conley is 74?!?!? No way!

WhenSheWasBad · 01/01/2021 12:43

Happy New Year all.

Hope you feel better soon medra

I can’t even contemplate exercise today. Not even a walk, although it would do me good.

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 12:44

@CallmeAngelGabriel my DH's crush (along with Catherine Zeta Jones and Nigella Lawson). She looks amazing!

MsAwesomeDragon · 01/01/2021 12:46

I'm sticking to walking. In March, dd2 and I did a few of the Joe Wick's pe lessons. Then dh started working from home, and he made a few comments which put dd2 off completely ☹️. It's been difficult to get her to do much exercise at all ever since. She's ok while they're at school, she walks there and back, does pe lessons, runs around at break and lunch. When she's at home she does none of that, won't do any exercise at home, won't go for a walk, etc. She's not eating as much either though, so her weight is fairly stable, but her fitness is shot.

I've signed up for a challenge to walk 1000 miles in 2021. I'll be going out for a crisp, snowy walk in a little while. I'm trying to persuade the family to come, but I'm actually the only one out of bed at the minute, so I don't think I'll have any company.

Panickingpavlova · 01/01/2021 12:48

Call me angel

I'm not laughing at rosemary conely, I have her video tape and it's been my go to for years! It's so old fashioned and the music!!

Monkeytennis97 · 01/01/2021 12:48

@MsAwesomeDragon aww your poor DD. My DF used to do that to me. I was the chubby one out of my siblings. I hope she gets the confidence to go out walking again x
