You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Is the head of the Oasis Trust now making all
Education decisions and the dfe following him? 😆

Well they will almost certainly do a better job - they can't do worse!

So with that proposed rota system the timetable would have to be completely redone right? As its not half a year group in, but different year groups? That will work well if we get the usual 5 minutes notice. Hmm

RobertsUncle · 25/08/2020 20:15

Hmm interesting that the independent article says that primaries will stay open no matter what. With what staff? If it's at high level in the community and children of teachers, tas and lunch supervisors are at home with their kids we won't have a safe ratio.
Anyway, we have a 3 hr teams call to go through the RA tomorrow. I feel it's a bit cheeky to do that in holidays , esp when considering our insets next week were cut from 2 days to 1 to get the kids back in sooner.

RobertsUncle · 25/08/2020 20:17

Garbled sentence, apologies- typing on this phone is tricky.

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 20:24

@RobertsUncle that's very cheeky. You should say you're away, or ask to be paid for half a day

We've been Oked to wear PPE if we provide it. Any visor recommendations?

Is this study one ever seen already or a new one?

Slightly confusing but also concerning.

In lockdown areas such as Greater Manchester, which have greater restrictions to stop the spread of the virus, wearing face coverings will become mandatory in school corridors where social distancing is more difficult.
In areas of England not subject to tighter restrictions, headteachers will have discretion over whether to require face masks, but the government will no longer advise against their use, a senior government source said.

Wow, missed the whole last thread Shock! My self catering holiday In the french countryside was cancelled so ended up on a city break having to eat out to help out and getting close to people Confused. Just had training day info and now turning off my emails until Monday.
Another U turn by BoJo I see.

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 20:33

@RobertsUncle the aim of keeping primaries open is purely childcare, surely. God knows who will be doing it though - our crazy "anyone can be a teacher" friend will have a solution to that, I'm sure.

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 20:33

Damn it do I need to buy more masks or not?

RobertsUncle · 25/08/2020 20:36

@hedgehogger1
It will be recorded so if we are busy (as I am of course!) we can watch it later.
I feel churlish making a fuss as the head must have worked her socks off to put it together!
We had mtgs over Eater hols and half term - didn't mind so much as we were in emergency mode. Now it feels it's just assumed we'll do it.

I’m getting the sewing machine out again tomorrow to run a few more up
RigaBalsam · 25/08/2020 20:37

I wish they would just be clear heads will bow to parental pressure which I don't I know what that is at my school at the moment.

Even half a year group would be difficult in KS4 due to different options I imagine.

Glad I'm not in charge of timetables. Though, if I were, I'd have tried to arrange it so I could switch to one week on one week off with half of each class in, not even sure if it would be possible to do that tbh.

Kashtan · 25/08/2020 20:37

Checking in staff.
That’s Good news Herc
Got a rather strong lemon gin here, cheers

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 20:39

@RobertsUncle the kids going back one day later would surely not make much difference and wouldn't mean staff started the term pissed off :P

RobertsUncle · 25/08/2020 20:43

@hedgehogger1
I'm probably the only one pissed off and will be made to feel like 'the difficult one' if I say anything.
I think I'll just fly under the radar - say I have plans, and just read the doc which will take 20 mins!

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 20:44

Yup. I'd do that. I'd be beyond annoyed in your situation

Exactly! If enough staff aren’t in, they will close. If vulnerable staff are off, they will close.

Repeating the mantra ‘primary schools won’t close’ won’t staff them, no matter how hard you wish it would!

Yes, seen that one. It has been criticised for concluding that children are infectious when all the evidence they have gathered is amount of virus present. I personally think it is certainly good information to bear in mind if getting close to children with symptoms!

Not visors, but there's a few links to transparent face masks here.

I’ve just panic bought extra masks 🤣
