You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I had one who was a twat, but the deputy held the school together.
One who was a figurehead while I ran the school.
Another who was very inexperienced, but we bumbled along OK until he started having an affair with one of the worst teachers in the school.
This one, who is the first woman I've worked. It's very different. I like it, I absolutely trust her.

@Regularname

FlowersDaffodil Thank you all for all your dedication. I have no children but am a member of society. Like everyone, parents or not, we have benefited from you looking after key worker children and teaching the doctors, lawyers plumbers care workers and (if they can bear it) teachers of the future.
Thank you
@MNHQ should be commenting on that thread with 'peace and love and fgs stop teacher bashing' or something.
That is exactly what I said in my message to MN just now when I reported the thread.

I’m sure they used to intervene a lot more in the past.

It really amazes me how some parents think we are so utterly shit, yet can’t wait to leave their children with us?!

CallmeAngelina · 29/08/2020 14:55

I've reported a few of the particularly nasty comments on that thread and they're all still standing.
But I got CodeExDivinchi deleted yesterday, so some things are good.

CallmeAngelina · 29/08/2020 14:55

And now they're busy complaining that school will be boring sitting in rows!

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 15:00

The thing with the TBs is I am more than capable of agreeing with them that SOME school leaders have been spectacularly shite ( we all know I mean my onw!) and that this ahs made it harder for teachers and, therefore, parents and the children.

That is different from bashing a whole profession and spectacularly misses the point of the OP. deliberately.
I mean one of them even admitted the paddle boarding was an attempt to motivate and inspire the children. Can't do right for doing wrong, eh?

Ugh. Now I am in a fight on the Facebook A Level Grades CAG whiners group. Had to contact admin there because of teacher bashing.

MsValerieFrizzle · 29/08/2020 15:10

I’m a frequent lurker but never usually post, mainly as I’m SLT and know when to strategically keep out of the staff room Wink On top of everything else we have a new head starting next week who I’ve not warmed to at all, seems inexperienced, overly confident, not at all on top of things and a bit of an idiot if I’m honest. The final straw was last week being told SLT are not to reply to any staff questions, emails etc. about concerns or arrangements for next weeks as he wants to address all staff himself on Tuesday. No understanding that staff might be worried and want the limited reassurance we could offer or have important contributions to make Sad

We really can't win. No matter what we do they'll complain. For every parent / carer who hates them being sat in rows, there will be another who hates group tables as their kid can't concentrate. Sad
Kidneybingo · 29/08/2020 15:12

There is such a lack of ability to see that not all schools are like their school, and that there will usually be a good reason why choices are made about lunches, PE or whatever. Schools have different space, demographics, buildings etc, but no, their school is undoubtedly being awkward.

Piggywaspushed · 29/08/2020 15:17

Gosh Valerie I might have to run off to find out if my head has left and gone to another school!!

noblegiraffe · 29/08/2020 15:19

My head who was not very popular before lockdown seems to have completely redeemed themselves in lockdown. It has been very odd.

SaltyAndFresh · 29/08/2020 15:32

This reminds me of the days when we used to pop to the pub for a quick half on a Friday lunchtime. 20 years since I started my PGCE - there was even a smoking room off the staff room Grin

Started by the mardy poster that wants her child to mix with everyone.

MsValerieFrizzle · 29/08/2020 15:35

@Piggywaspushed unfortunately ours is new to headship so I don’t think it’ll be him! I’m desperately hoping things get better once he settles in.

phlebasconsidered · 29/08/2020 15:37

We had a smoking room too! It was full of the best people and had a TV. And we often went out for lunch to the pub for the FULL HOUR!

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 15:40

I started teaching in 2000 and we used to go to the pub on Friday lunchtime. We were a split site and the rule was that whoever was teaching sixth form last lesson went to the pub and bagged a table for after school drinks because the sixth form site was near a decent pub.

Appuskidu · 29/08/2020 15:45

Our staff room in 1997 when I started had smoking times! Lunch was 12-1 and you could smoke from 12.45-1.

We used to get wine at the teachers’ table at the Christmas lunch in the hall as well.

SaltyAndFresh · 29/08/2020 15:46

It'd be gross misconduct these days!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 29/08/2020 16:01

The TBs are out in force today. It must be infuriating for them that they need us much more than we need them

Flagsfiend · 29/08/2020 16:03

We had wine for our 6th form posh meal to mark the end of the year (when I was a 6th former). Seated meal in the school hall for 6th formers and staff with wine followed by a ceilidh, was lovely. Guess that wouldn't be allowed anymore.

Ickabog · 29/08/2020 16:11

MNHQ finally commented on the angry thread, although no mention of being kinder to teachers / staff.

Afternoon, everyone. We just wanted to appeal for a bit of peace and love here. This thread has got quite combative in places and will end up simply being taken down if it turns into a bunfight. We don't think everyone has to agree but we do think it's possible to present an opposing view while remaining polite and calm.

MrsHamlet · 29/08/2020 16:16

That message sounds like one of our learning mentors wrote it. It's very wet.

motherrunner · 29/08/2020 16:18

Just back from a walk with my friend and our rabble and catching up.

The ‘angry’ thread - wow! The whole thing should be deleted.

I too started teaching in 2000 and remember the smoking room, playing poker at lunch and pub Friday days. The days if ‘you’re a NQT is name only. No extra frees, a mentor and you’ll do cover’ but everyone rallied around and things just seem more chilled!
