You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Thanks fripp. The expensive one looks bullet proof but slightly scary! I'll probably go for the cheaper one initially.

I have seen the glasses/Google style ones but not sure how they'd work if you already Ave glasses? Perhaps I could fashion some kind of hybrid.

WhyNotMe40 · 25/08/2020 20:48

@RigaBalsam

In lockdown areas such as Greater Manchester, which have greater restrictions to stop the spread of the virus, wearing face coverings will become mandatory in school corridors where social distancing is more difficult. In areas of England not subject to tighter restrictions, headteachers will have discretion over whether to require face masks, but the government will no longer advise against their use, a senior government source said.
Wow !

U-turn on masks according to sky news

Hercwasonaroll · 25/08/2020 20:50

Interesting U turn on masks.

Whispers I'm still not 100% convinced that students wearing them will actually help much. Short bursts on public transport etc is fine. But all day in a classroom, don't they just get soggy and become next to useless?

DollyMixtureLulus · 25/08/2020 20:51

One of my friends in another school is now isolating, along with the entire class. Pupil came to school on Fri and tested positive Sun.

My voice is nearly completely gone

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2020 20:52

it's not really a U Turn though.... more of a wibble wobble .

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 20:53

No voice no work dolly
You only get one voice!

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/08/2020 20:54

Wear them for 4 hours at work. Less if you are patient facing in hot weather because yo'll need to drink more often than that.

I've never worn the homemade cotton ones for more than an hour though, so I don't know how those would stand up after 4 hours.

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2020 20:55

The best ones I have are Muddy Boots. they all make me sneeze though.

FaceDFNDR ones come in sizes which are good but they are quite thick for talking. Boden are comfy but very soft material and they ride up and you can't speak.

Here endeth my expertise.

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2020 20:55

I do have my Nicola Sturgeon one in the post to piss Tories off Grin

DollyMixtureLulus · 25/08/2020 20:55

Thankfully I have a day out tomorrow- all our NCCT is banked so we can work from home one day every two weeks. Hoping that revives it.

We also have to have all windows open and I feel the cold terribly so I'm going to do some online scarf shopping.

DollyMixtureLulus · 25/08/2020 20:56

I have only been wearing my mask if I have been face-to-face or sitting beside a child to support. If I've been teaching at the board I take mine off. Not sure of how wise that is.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 25/08/2020 20:59

It's less of a U turn than all the other U-turns, admittedly. But it's a start.

Barry Fry's was like this:

I'd have to wear this because am allergic to latex.

Iamnotthe1 · 25/08/2020 21:03

I love the way that journalists are starting to write about the Government. You can tell that they are genuinely fed-up with this level of incompetence. Just in that Sky News article:
"The prime minister performed his latest U-turn"
"as a result of a change in the World Health Organisation's (WHO) advice - despite that shift happening four days ago."

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 21:10

BBC not reporting yet - wonder what spin they’ll put on it?

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/08/2020 21:10

@Hercwasonaroll my hairdresser says the ones with googles are really good, especially if you wear glasses apparently! They were surprised by it and now nearly all of them wear the visors with built in googles.

I'm glad I stocked up on my washable masks - fingers crossed my school now say we can wear them at least when not teaching... I've emailed them anyway!

Hercwasonaroll · 25/08/2020 21:12

Yes piggy those first ones l like the look of but glasses plus those I'm not sure will work.

I have tried Seasalt (fell off my ears), home made nose bag style (OK but got damp after an hour shopping), home made three fold (bloody hot and steamy). Also tried a bandana style thing but it fell down and I looked like I'd mugged someone's nan.

Hercwasonaroll · 25/08/2020 21:13

Right I'm going for the glasses ones @MrsHerculePoirot will report back as and when! I'd rather have one on and get close to the students work, than spend all lesson miles away.

Frlrlrubert · 25/08/2020 21:18

@DollyMixtureLulus

That's what I was thinking Dolly, pop my mask on if I leave my 'zone'.

I'm feeling croaky already (stupid toddler germs, we tested negative last Saturday but I've ordered myself a home test to do tomorrow to double check), and we're not back yet!

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/08/2020 21:18

I thought I might get one and try it out at home too. But I'm also getting new glasses which are varifocals (I managed not to actually cry because that makes me officially old just about...) so I don't want to think it is the visor making me feel seasick if it is just new glasses!!!

phlebasconsidered · 25/08/2020 21:21

I've got varifocals - so much easier than glasses on and off all day. I got used to them pretty quickly.

Hercwasonaroll · 25/08/2020 21:24

I'm thinking visor/mask for close work ekth students only. Definitely not for whole class stuff.
