You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

No DfE muppets allowed

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

@ThrawnCow

I'm sick of seeing classrooms from lockdown (or Denmark) on the news, as if that's how empty they will be this term.
Quite!

It did make me smile that the school Clav and other well known posters to us, praised very early on in Lockdown remember certain kitchens indicated if a family was in need or not?? was on BBC news on GCSE results day showing students getting their results with absolutely zero masks, shed loads of 16 year old kids/parents and staff with no social distancing and lots of touching in the background, whilst the very new and young Head was giving an interview.

This was after lots of schools in NI and elsewhere in Wales were interviewed on the BBC with masks and/or strict social distancing very carefully in front of the lockdown!

Must have given those posters a heart attack watching (if they did!) or ignored as it doesn’t fit their posting agenda

It will be interesting to see if any teenagers take (and post) pictures of crowded mask-free corridors as happened in the US.

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 23:04

It is only lockdown areas though. Northampton was having hundreds of cases but still not in lockdown. I'm not sure if it's still a area of concern. Meanwhile on another thread "masks are evil"

ChloeDecker · 25/08/2020 23:05

Not lockdown but cameras

weird error on my part!

Piggywaspushed · 25/08/2020 23:10

The school in Leicester only had year 7 and 11 In today. the class shown was a tutor group. They do vertical tutoring and year 11 were in a separate session. Ergo class looked tiny.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/08/2020 23:13

That makes sense. I'm surprised they are still doing vertical tutoring. Our local college normally does but has changed it to year group tutor groups this year.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 23:14

@Piggywaspushed

It's really not a U Turn. Let's see how many of our heads change their plans to Masks R Us...
Still got Wednesday and Thursday to go .... but I reckon next DfE missive will come out on 1st or 2nd September. Late enough to give head teachers a heart attack.

Oh god I've started the back to school dreams.

No reply on my illegal working days. Chasing tomorrow.

Meh.

CallmeAngelina · 25/08/2020 23:32

Me too, GuyFawkes!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2020 23:36

I'm trawling the advice for return to school in Wales. Particularly loving the fact that it states that any pupils who normally displays behaviours like spitting/kissing/licking that would raise the risk of the spread of droplets, who cannot be cared for without close contact can STILL be cared for as normal without the use of PPE.

In these circumstances, to reduce the risk of coronavirus (COVID-19) transmission, no additional PPE is necessary as these are non-symptomatic children in a non-healthcare setting and so the risk of viral transmission is very low.

Because, you know, if they are asymptomatic, they are safe!

ThrawnCow · 25/08/2020 23:38

Dear god!

FrippEnos · 25/08/2020 23:48

DrMadelineMaxwell

It makes you wonder what sort of demented fuck is writing the guidance.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2020 23:50

Indeed!

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:02

All4Us are losing their shit over this masks announcement. Never seen so many of them.

Ha ha.

CallmeAngelina · 26/08/2020 00:10

We used to think 'Yes Minister' was a joke. Now it's clear how bang on the nose the writers were.
Whoever is writing this "guidance" is having a bloody laugh. Unfortunately, at our expense.

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:17

Watching Yes Minister now makes me long for that level of discourse. We are definitely in Thick Of It territory.

CallmeAngelina · 26/08/2020 00:18

@Noble, How you getting on with your intended AIBU thread?
And @Piggy, do we have a name changer on the "teachers stay indoors forever" thread? The European one? You're usually good at spotting them.

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:22

Apparently the journos were briefed earlier today that the u-turn on masks was for all schools and the update that it’s for lockdown areas is a u-turn on the u-turn. Ffs.

twitter.com/jonathansimons/status/1298349549954760704?s=21

Leaving it up to heads to decide ‘what’s right’ is despicable cowardice. They’re the government, they’ve got all the science and advisors and they’re leaving it to the poor sods still caught up in the results debacle to make a decision on that too?

Keepdistance · 26/08/2020 00:34

They shouldnt leave up to the HT. That's similar to CSA starts and some are completely opposed or the LA are.

But then i think if they have removed the 'you cant' then effectively you can. But i guess that still means even if teachers wear them the students might not.
All the stuff about the lockdown areas yes echnically higher risk but within a few weeks of the kids not wearing masks the spread is going to be pretty fast.

CallmeAngelina · 26/08/2020 00:35

Call me dim, but isn't it a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted to make masks a requirement only for schools in lockdown areas? Surely they should be used as a preventative measure in low-spread areas?

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:36

How you getting on with your intended AIBU thread?

I’m not in a thread-starting position till tomorrow evening I reckon. Too busy and you can’t just drop a thread then leave it to be taken over by fuckwits.

I spent this afternoon doing lots of things that would be branded irresponsible, like going bowling. #rebel

echt · 26/08/2020 00:41

I am particularly enjoying the thread about why can't, oh, anybody just re-train as a teacher and work in defunct Toys"R"Us shops.

noblegiraffe · 26/08/2020 00:41

Also, wtf is a ‘communal area’ in a school if not the entire school?

And why is social distancing ‘not possible’ in a corridor, suggesting it is possible in a classroom?

I saw some woman from Toby Young’s Free Speech Union on Sky saying how awful it was that kids were being sent back to socially distanced schools. What social distancing?!
