You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I promise... I need all the help I can get

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 17:17

Our school made that the default, motherrunner. And no video from the student end.

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 17:20

@WhyNotMe40 It’s really simple, honestly. We had a 10 minute tutorial the Weds before lockdown when we were all stressed to the eyeballs and I picked it up quickly!

Wish mine had down that. Each session we have to change the features and it took so long!
MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 17:23

Amazingly our support desk people did something helpful. It's rare...

Hercwasonaroll · 25/08/2020 17:26

@motherunner The kids are terrible at entering maths as typing. To be fair it does take the piss! So photos are better from their pov. I'll be setting a lot of MCQs and live marking in lessons. Going to invest in a visor!

ChloeDecker · 25/08/2020 17:26

To save time in marking random photos kids send (and other difficult to mark formats) and not being able to use exercise books, I have been writing homework tasks using Microsoft Quizzes (an offshoot of Microsoft Forms) and I can just share the link on a Teams lesson, kids complete it using their phones, tablets or PC etc. And just press Submit.
I have worked out how to give individual feedback/targets and send back to each kid individually in one go, (after the homework hand in date)
If anyone wants more info, just ask.

Frlrlrubert · 25/08/2020 17:27

We're using Satchel One (used to be SMHW) for homework/marking.

I prefer when they attach a document I can edit rather than a photo, so I'll be requesting they do that if possible. Some of them only have a phone though, so it's tricky for them to work on that, and they often prefer to hand write their answers and take a photo.

For KS4 in lockdown I'd edit the mark scheme to show them what they'd got correct/incorrect and attach that to a short comment with some feedback and further tasks.

My department are also big on Doddle Quizzes, I'm not sad that this is the last year of Doddle to be honest.

Frlrlrubert · 25/08/2020 17:30

Oh, and we have teams, it was going to be the next big thing, we did one quiz on it with our Tutor groups at the end of term, but it seems to be gathering dust now.

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 17:49

I actually quite like teams because you can do a lot with it. My colleagues think I'm mad though

WhyNotMe40 · 25/08/2020 17:58

Loving your work on the AIBU ladies Grin

We use showbie both for is to put work in and for the kids to upload their work, it’s good. And ties in Socrative which is a quizzing app, and generates reports once completed.
Also will be setting plenty of educake quizzes as they are also self marking.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 25/08/2020 18:09

Who is going to engage with these posters on AIBU and corona once we are all back at school?

If we go back as they're suggesting, we're likely to all be back home again with a few short weeks.
Frlrlrubert · 25/08/2020 18:13

I'm just reading the CLEAPSS practical guidance and I just realised I've had a misconception all along.

I though 2m/1m social distance was measured from the surface of one person to the surface of another, but it looks like it's actually measured from your centre to their centre? So more like 50cm in between you for 1m distancing?

The Eighteenth Republic is lined up.

DfE added to the banned list. We don't need those muppets cluttering up the staffroom nicking the vodka and cake.

If we have vodka in the staffroom I suppose we won't have to go to bars and restaurants, and then the masses won't be offended by us going about our lives.
