You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

I’ve seen that one. Ffs, parental anxiety is what will harm their children. And back in the real world I have just gone and for shoes with DD and DS. Both (9 and 6) chose to wear masks and the only issue we had was DS wanted lace shoes as he’s ‘big now’ but I said he had to select straps as I do not want to be shouting at 7.20am each morning ‘hurry up and tie your laces!’.

CallmeAngelina · 25/08/2020 10:47

DH just called the GP surgery for an appointment and in all the recorded guff at the beginning of the call, it said that anyone visiting the surgery in person "OVER THE AGE OF 2," had to wear a mask!!

FFS I'm shouting into a void. None so blind as them who won't see

Just checked my work email. Looks like a year 11 has had a conversation with my out of office message

Sounds like a standard lesson with one of my year 10 classes!
WhyNotMe40 · 25/08/2020 10:59

Lol, yeah and yr9s!

Frlrlrubert · 25/08/2020 11:04

I've had the first message from a parent that goes 'I have no information on what's occurring!'.

Information about new school day and rules went out in July, it's on the parent app and the school website. Obviously my reply was polite but I wonder how many more like that I'll get this week.

I'm hoping they get their timetables before they return, or they'll all be wandering around lost looking for their rooms for registration!

Ickabog · 25/08/2020 11:12

Like many schools we're have to stagger start / finishing times. We're expecting some parents to come at the previous times, despite sending multiple emails, letters and making it the first thing you see on the website.

No doubt they'll claim not to have known about the changes.

This makes me wonder about all the parents posting on MN in lockdown who "had nothing" from their DC's school/teacher. Hmm

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 11:17

We sent out an 8 page letter to parents at the end of term. God knows if they'll make head or tail of it... but we aren't staggering the start of the day so at least we might get the kids at the right tone.

MrsHamlet · 25/08/2020 11:17

Time

ohthegoats · 25/08/2020 11:23

I've just had a flick through the telly channels - every channel had something on about masks in schools. I didn't stop for any of it - one of them had the tag line 'UsForThem' with some hippy looking woman with bad hair about to talk. No time for that shit. It's coming.

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 11:24

My children’s primary are really organised. Sent out a comprehensive letter. There are still parents asking questions on the Facebook page which the deputy diligently answers. This is why I couldn’t be a primary teacher:

Parents: Can they wear joggers to school on PE day?
Me (in my head): It’s in the letter
Deputy: Yes the can.

Parents: Which day will be PE days?
Me: it’s in the letter
Deputy: Your child will be given a timetable first day back

Parents: I have children starting at different times. Do I have to hang around?
Me: It’s in the fucking letter
Deputy: Drop off at the early time and collect at latest

And the best ...

Parents: Why have you changed food supplier. My little darling loved all day breakfast and now it’s not on the menu.
Me: Is this all you’re worried about in the middle of a pandemic?!
Ask me: happy as lunches now cost less
Deputy: We’ll take feedback in due course.

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 11:25

*also me (not ask)

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 11:26

And if by any chance any id you are my children’s deputy, you have amazing patience!

Ickabog · 25/08/2020 11:28

motherrunner That all sounds so familiar.

It also reminds me of the posts on local FB groups each year saying - When does XYZ school go back. How people can get to just days before the start of term and not know baffles me. Grin

motherrunner · 25/08/2020 11:30

@Ickabog That was on there too. Again me: Look at the first paragraph of THE LETTER or SCHOOL WEBSITE!

It’s like those people who post, ‘what time does Sainsburys open?’. You’re obviously on the Internet. Google it!

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 11:32

My school literally sent out a digital book about going back. It's like 25 pages long. Parent and staff versions

hedgehogger1 · 25/08/2020 11:34

My MIL was telling my my nephews done nothing all lockdown as his teacher gave them nothing to do. My kids are at the same school. All years has a weekly plan of what they needed to cover and all the resources. Our and my in laws views is education are miles apart though

noblegiraffe · 25/08/2020 11:42

No handbook for staff at my school yet either. I have no idea what’s going on.

ineedaholidaynow · 25/08/2020 11:45

Our local area have been doing food parcels rather than vouchers for free school meals. The times for collection changed by an hour over the summer holidays. Some parents still haven’t read the email about the change in times and it has been sent many times!

I had that from one of my students parents. Who happens to actually be a teacher at my school... Hmm Luckily I was able to point her to the long long list of things I had emailed and also put on SMH...

State primary here. We put daily Maths, English and Topic lessons as well as PSHE and projects on Microsoft Teams. Every child had a login and we supplied school laptops to those without. Or printed a weekly pack for children & took it to their house.

We also called every household every fortnight.

We did this for nearly 5 months.

On one of the last calls I made with a parent, she was shirty as 'No work had been provided.'
When I pointed out that she'd had her child's login plus stuff we'd printed for this specific child, she said 'Oh we didn't bother with all that. It's probably too hard anyway.'

This was in JULY!!!
🤦‍♀️
