You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff only – a sort of room of requirement. Baiters, haters, goaders and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs
Do not give ‘The Every twat for Themselves mob’ the staffroom password as a number of them are operating in an alternative reality.

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

If you are fed up with cakes and biscuits there is now a cheeseboard on offer

If you come with a stick to goad us then that is not allowed in the staffroom. Close the door quietly on your way out

Thanks for the new thread.

I posted this on another thread but it’s interesting. I know it’s the Daily Outrage (my mums sends it to me Hmm) but I think the gov have got a long way to go, still.

Even their own bar chart shows parents think Gavin is a muppet and they don’t all want their kids back to school yet.

I guess we can expect a huge amount of money to be spent over the next 2 weeks persuading them (rather than spending it on actually making schools safer).

What do we reckon?

‘New’ research showing children categorically never catch it, spread it or get ill from it and schools are 100% SAFE.

TV campaigns on how you’re failing your child if you don’t send them back in and they’ll end up disadvantaged (and we know how much Gavlar cares about disadvantaged children).

Posters for the tutoring campaign which parents will be told to speak to their head teacher about in September-implying the money is there just waiting for keen parents to just ask!

Where else can they go with this...?!

If it's a pointless waste of money that undermines education professionals they'll probably do it

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/08/2020 17:45

Apparently guidance on masks in school is due out next week? My head thought it was due to be covered in the 11th guidance and says they think it’s been delayed by the exams fiasco basically.

They have said regardless they will have decisions for us by start of term.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/08/2020 17:46

Thanks for new thread @StaffAssociationRepresentative

phlebasconsidered · 21/08/2020 17:55

Thanks for the new thread. I am finding it supportive, to have comrades.

Today dd tried on new uniform deliveries and cried she was so happy. Ds refused to do the same and cried about going back . I also feel like crying. I tried on my old work trousers. Ffs. I'm sick of our education system. The way it treats staff and students. Dd is in a dither because she "might drop back a set" (high achieving) and ds doesn't want to go back because school literally doesn't cater for him. At 13 he is already a faliure in school, whereas in lockdown he's learnt new skills, worked with his dad and completed an nvq 1, and feels 100% happier.

And i too am having panic dreams. I woke up at 3am this morning crying in my sleep! I have assuaged this by spending the day deadheading and preserving veg i've grown. I'm imagining the slowly shrinking oven dried tomatoes are Boris' head. And now i've got a gin. A fucking huge one.

Danglingmod · 21/08/2020 18:01

Sorry you've had a rubbish day, Phlebas Flowers.

What NVQ has your ds completed? That's really positive that he's worked on that.

Hercwasonaroll · 21/08/2020 18:10

Oh sorry phlebas, that's so tough.

Any scope for ds to stay home long term? HE doesn't have to be 'academic'.

Im burying my head in the sand. Combined stress of new nursery, leaving baby, new school rules/TT is overwhelming. Pretending it's not happening is current fave strategy.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/08/2020 18:16

I just got ds to try on his blazer which I naively thought would still fit but the sleeves are crazy short now and it’s snug even over a T-shirt.

I’ve ordered shirts and trousers and he had new pe kit recently. Hoped to not need a blazer and can’t believe how much he’s grown.

Shelling out more money for uniform when half of me thinks he’s barely going to get to wear it

Lidlfix · 21/08/2020 18:31

I volunteered as tribute a few threads back. Well first week done and I now have a gin in one hand and a test in the post. A potential bodily fluids incident with a pupil (I am fucking raging and SLT better throw everything at them) has led to me now needing a test. No idea whether to go to school on Monday pending carrying out my test and the result. Grim.

CallmeAngelina · 21/08/2020 18:37

Thanks for the new thread. Felt almost twitchy this morning when we were in a state of limbo inbetween the two.

Kidneybingo · 21/08/2020 18:38

@GuyFawkesDay

I think I might cry

I have days s fortnight with no break or lunch. The lesson time changes and my timetable have conspired against me.

I've emailed about it.....it can't be ok for me to go from 8:15am to 2:40pm without a break?

This is all kinds of awful. It's not the type of job where you can take an unofficial breather and piddle around on a computer either, which makes it worse.
WhenSheWasBad · 21/08/2020 18:42

lidl that’s awful, seriously awful. Hope you have a supportive SLT.

Enjoy the very large gin.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/08/2020 18:44

My school got back to me about my “NQT” timetable.

Apparently it’s policy at that school for regular teachers to have 22 hour timetables and NQTs to have 21 hours. I’m drinking a large gin right now.

Hercwasonaroll · 21/08/2020 18:45

@WhenSheWasBad Their policy can't override government policy surely??! I'd keep fighting, get your union rep if you need to. This is exactly what they are for.

Lidl that is awful. I hope your SLT throw everything possible at the student.

WhenSheWasBad · 21/08/2020 18:50

Thanks herc I don’t know what to do. I was meant to do a load of planning today but just couldn’t face it. So mad at them.

Still feel so sorry for lidl appalling incident with a pupil.

DollyMixtureLulus · 21/08/2020 18:51

@Lidlfix I am so sorry Angry is your EIS rep any good?

CountDuckulasKetchup · 21/08/2020 19:00

When, please speak to your union rep, it's what they're for. Shouldn't admit this on MN (will whisper quietly so twats 4 themselves don't hear) but I used to be one, and would have been all over this.

IgnoranceIsStrength · 21/08/2020 19:04

I'm in FE and back a week. Has been the weirdest most intense week. Currently have no grades for any students (BTEC teacher) and have been doing online enrolment which is a nightmare when a student is borderline between levels as you really need to see them and speak to them to assess. No idea how lessons are running especially practical lessons. Lots of bemused and stressed staff

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/08/2020 19:07

I’m currently one and would deffo be all over this.

Completed their survey and ranted that they needed to differentiate between different ages eg primary and secondary in the comment box...

WhenSheWasBad · 21/08/2020 19:10

count I’m really worried about sticking my neck out.

They are 100% in the wrong. But if I create a fuss about it I might get 1 hours worth of time back.

For that one hour I’ve pissed off the head, assistant head and my HoD.

Is it worth rocking the boat? I’m not sure? I think I might have to just suck it up. So pissed off though.

Hercwasonaroll · 21/08/2020 19:14

Definitely worth it. They'll learn you're not a pushover. That hour a week could make all the difference. It's an hour less to deliver and an hour less to plan for so probably saves 2 hours.

Are they an Academy? (not that it makes any difference, gov rules is rules!)

WhenSheWasBad · 21/08/2020 19:20

Academy in a lovely leafy area. I think that’s the deal. The staff don’t have to deal with appalling behaviour problems so they put up with SLT taking the piss with a few workload requirements.

So pissed off. If I was younger with no kids I’d quit just on principle. So so pissed off.
