You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Don’t forget responding to someone questioning eg. current advice re: June 1st with you want to keep schools closed forever

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 16:33

Actually, you think you should never have to go back to work

CallmeAngelina · 20/05/2020 17:01

Pinkrocker, Yep. I feel we are being hung out to dry and we seem to have been tasked with leading the country out of lockdown. According to the DM, I "moaned" that.

LolaSmiles · 20/05/2020 17:01

I love the suggestions.

Don't forget teachers obviously hate children/parents.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 17:04

“We’ve all been working hard what makes teachers so special”

“Us parents are having to work and oversee our own children’s education and care” If you point out we’re doing the same you are sanctimonious

pfrench · 20/05/2020 17:09

I have had a whole day off. Went swimming, had a picnic, took my child to see her grandparents and her cousins at a distance. I feel so much better.

Meanwhile even my partner is getting annoyed with schools opening news.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 17:14

Is yours the H&S guy pfrench?

DreamingofBrie · 20/05/2020 17:17

Sounds lovely, pfrench!

Teams has been glitchy today, so lots of kids unable to see shared screen, bouncing in and out of lessons etc. So looking forward to half term!

On the positive side, I tried form karaoke with my Y11s today over Teams. Some of them were brave enough to unmute their microphones. It was the funniest 5 minutes I've had for a while. Miss them!

pfrench · 20/05/2020 17:23

Not a H&S guy here, no.

I'm now sitting down to work. I hate this, I just want my job back to normal. Woe.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 17:51

The New Deal with ds (if I was a political party I’d have had a think tank on 100k to come up with the branding, something like project warp speed or stay alert) is that to keep his PS4 he has to do a minimum of one hours schoolwork (he has muggins here as 1:1 support so an hour goes quite a long way and we’re working through holidays), get out in the fresh air for exercise and do a couple of chores/tasks that contribute to the running of the household.

Do I have a really low bar? I’m aiming at marathon rather than sprint working right through till September

IBlametheTeachers · 20/05/2020 17:52

My Mum reads the Daily Mail. Yesterday she had me incandescent with rage, "It's all nonsense, we're all going to get it. Let's just get it over with." Ending with, "Well I'm glad I don't have children."
Er.....hello?

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 17:58

Grin Iblame. God love ‘em. My favourite is my mother measuring my parenting against standards she never even tried to come close to. Similar err... hello?

phlebasconsidered · 20/05/2020 18:13

My class bombarded me with lovely thank you emails. Then our lovely school pta delivered us all a little gift. Which made me weep. I feel better but worse! Wtf!

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 18:14

Evening Standard, “It comes as a further 235 people died in UK hospitals after contracting coronavirus, bringing the total death toll to 35,576“.

Please note today we’re back to just hospital deaths not deaths following a positive test. The latter isn’t a true number either but always way higher than the former given the numbers dying in care homes.

I feel the chopping and changing obfuscates things. Yesterday’s number included care homes and was over 550. I’m trying not to put my tinfoil hat on.

pinkrocker · 20/05/2020 18:19

Aww!! I got a thank a teacher card! Smile

ChloeDecker · 20/05/2020 18:20

Well deserved pinkrocker!

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2020 18:21

So did DH. Bastard.

CallmeAngelina · 20/05/2020 18:22

I think the total now for today is 363, which presumably includes the wider community.

WhyNotMe40 · 20/05/2020 18:24

I just got a parental complaint. Ah well

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 18:31

Thanks callme. That should include everyone who died following a positive test. Can’t work out the pattern as to when they add on ons figures for non tested but covid on death certificate. I know there’s an understandable lag with registration of community deaths but don’t know if they’ve committed to a day/date they add them on?

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2020 18:31

As of June 1st, all staff in my school are required on site all day, regardless of whether they have students to encounter.

This fits the stay at home message how exactly?

TheHoneyBadger · 20/05/2020 18:34

It doesn’t. The last thing needed in a pandemic is presentee-ism ffs

Mistressiggi · 20/05/2020 18:36

Piggy that's not on. And think of the increase in key workers children when all the teachers had to bring their own dc to a school

RigaBalsam · 20/05/2020 18:45

Piggy that's insane.

*We have just had the info on how ours will work. Its groups of 8 for a morning or afternoon session for two weeks only. Staff will do a day a week each for two weeks. Each session will start with a health and safety briefing.

Head has said he will not do any more weeks unless the guidance says he has to.*

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2020 18:53

It defies all logic.
