You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Oooh a cheese board.
I think we had one of those in our staff room once.
We have the most lovely mum of a child in our school. At the end of every term she sends in a care package biscuits and the like, but also something a little bit more. One year there was a cafetière and coffee and I’m sure she has done a cheese selection before.
(She also pays for every school trip twice, once for her child and once for someone who couldn’t afford it)

It's espresso martini night here. And I.now have the headspace to try and finish reading Ulysses, which I managed to avoid during my degree once upon a time.

Hello everyone.
Yes please to cheese. In my placement A school there was the occasional pillow of Asda snacks - voted the best savoury junk food.

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2020 19:10

Thanks for the new staffroom staff.
I do love cheese. One year I must have talked about cheese in my examples more often than anything else and my year 11 class bought me a big selection of cheese at the end of the year. It was honestly the best gift I've ever had as a teacher. I think they'd all tried to buy a different type of cheese and then one of the keenest put it together into a hamper.

We're moving onto Teams very soon. I don't really want to do live teaching because of all the swearing they will hear from my neighbours. And dh has work calls, and dd asks me questions, etc. There's too much noise in my little terraced house during the day, which is why I've been doing videos very early when there aren't all those ambient noises

MsAwesomeDragon · 17/05/2020 19:11

Is there an option to do text chat rather than audio on Teams?

cheesecurdsandgravy · 17/05/2020 19:13

Excellent. I brought posh crackers too.

I was a bit “on it” before Easter and had prepped work for all my classes for the whole of this half term, which thankfully meant I was able to deal with all the pastoral stuff that flew at me constantly, at high speed. But, it’s meant that while all my colleagues were getting up to speed with google classrooms and voice overs on PP I am woefully behind. DH has been home all weekend so he has been parenting HARD while I taught myself to do various things. Still have to plan and resource the actual lessons though. There goes half term...!

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 19:21

Yes awesome. It's a bit irritating in design though

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 19:23

It's interesting how many schools ate going to live lessons. It's like dominoes.

CallmeAngelina · 17/05/2020 19:27

I have found all the "hate" threads on here surprisingly upsetting.
But then my HT told us all this morning that she has been overwhelmed with lovely emails and messages from our parents, saying how much they appreciate the work we've sent and the recorded messages and chatty individualised emails and lovely activities for the KW kids.
And also, a big shout out to the lovely lady in the ice cream queue in the park at St Albans this morning, who I overheard chatting about how great her kids' school was and when the woman she was chatting to said it wasn't as good at her kids' school, she said all the right things. (Sorry if my dog was a pain!)

SallyLovesCheese · 17/05/2020 19:35

Oh god, a cheese board? Bloody delicious!! I really want one now...

I have engaged far too much on one or two threads today, instead of working on an assignment, but I don't feel too stressed about it. I think it's because I read a parent newsletter from my head that went out last week that basically said "We don't want to reopen in the way the Government have said we should so watch this space". It's made me feel a little better, like we're working towards a more manageable way of opening.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 19:49

Anyone seen the will you send your year 6 back thread? Huge numbers saying no. Government could be very embarrassed by this.

Of course, they may change their minds.

It worries me though that, despite the mantra on other threads this is mainly because they are satisfied with the home learning, which won't be as good after June 1st.
Schools will not be able to plan on any reliable numbers.

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 19:49

Marking place and stealing cheese here, any paté??

MossWalk · 17/05/2020 19:58

Oooh. Cheese and wine in the staffroom, very nice.

I really do have the Sunday fear. Gah.

A teacher in my family works with this poor little girl's father, who would like this shared widely. It's so shocking - we don't know anywhere near enough about the effects this disease can have on children.

Feenie · 17/05/2020 20:03

Can't get the link to work, hang on.

pinkrocker · 17/05/2020 20:07

Poor little lass!

phlebasconsidered · 17/05/2020 20:12

I love Brief Encounter. Although my favourite oldies are Casablanca and Notorious . Bogart and Grant..... So much nicer than now.
Although now I'm thinking I wonder maybe Jezebel or Now Voyager with a bit of Bette. I need to be a bit more Bette right now.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/05/2020 20:12

@cheesecurdsandgravy - love a cheeseboard. Is there a bit of Gorgonzola?

Geraniumblue, emoji, why, Huge amounts of flowers and unmumnetty hugs.

If a work place is already toxic, it's going to be tough and I really feel for you all.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/05/2020 20:18

Maybe if we move the packet soup to one side we could squeeze in a bottle of port. Cheese board Sunday.

This has set me off. I need to find some crackers

Oh that poor little girl! I do hope she pulls through. The last update sounded very scary. Sad

Feenie · 17/05/2020 20:26

I know - it's heartbreaking.
