You are most welcome to this school staff support thread to get us through stressful times. It is meant for school staff. Baiters and bashers can jog on somewhere else.

If you are NOT staff and just have a general education query please start your own thread.

You can play here only if you are a member of one the following groups-

-ABBA - anti bashers and baiting association
-SWAB - school workers against bashers
-SWOT - school workers opposing teacherbashers
-STARS - schoolworkers together against ranting + slurs

Other requirements for staff room entry include the ability to find the staff room, the ability to find a clean mug in the staff room, knowledge of the photocopier codes, and the ability to sniff out where the toffee vodka is hidden.

In the other staffroom, there is rhubarb & ginger gin, along with tea and coffee.

Thanks staff!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 17/05/2020 17:41

Just keeping my place. And shitting myself at the same time

tadjennyp · 17/05/2020 17:42

Thanks, Staff. I feel like you, though I have been making PowerPoints with a voiceover then saving that somewhere else to email it out to kids who can't access that either. I haven't been setting quizzes, because I haven't been asked to and Teams isn't up and running yet. I feel as bad as you about it. Solidarity. It's my leaving do/department quiz via Skype tonight. I expect that isn't helping my mood. 😥

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 17:42

Thanks staff Star

SallyLovesCheese · 17/05/2020 17:43

Thanks, Staff, I just posted we needed a new one, but there it was, already posted!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 17/05/2020 17:44

@WhyNotMe40. It is easy to feel down whilst reading all the rubbish online and in newspapers. We will get through this. We are all doing our best. You are following your school guidelines so that is fine. Plus not only are you educating other children you also have your own to look after.

No fear - you are doing well x

@SallyLovesCheese this keeps me on my toes!

@tadjennyp - we can only do what we can. I guess having a zoom leaving do means that you all supply your own drinks

I was so sad to see the classroom pictures. I really hope it does not have to be this way for our youngest.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:48

I feel like you, too, whynot but also angry at the complete lack of pedagogical evidence for any assertions made anywhere about anything.

Saucery · 17/05/2020 17:49

Emoji and everyone who is feeling scared Flowers
It’s not right and it’s not fair. None of this is, to so many people. I look at my teen and think fuck me, when I was their age I was terrified of a nuclear incident that never materialised. You tend to think science and common sense would make sure we never got to this point. Sad

DreamingofBrie · 17/05/2020 17:51

Placemarking as I need to site dinner, but just wanted to say WhyNot and others, that online teaching definitely gets easier with practice. If you're using Teams, I'll show you how to set up a lesson so the pupils can't share their screens, and how to kick them out if necessary. Will include screenshots.

I am getting rather annoyed with all the journos explaining what R is. We are not dumb. We understood R when Chris Whitty explained it thank you

I am still fuming at that LBC presenter. Spouting absolute nonsense. Aghhh found the vodka.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:55

I'm just being stubborn really brie because I don't agree they are better. I'll get over it but I could do without having to learn it alongside a timetable increase.

SallyLovesCheese · 17/05/2020 17:57

We understood R when Chris Whitty explained it thank you

Actually, I watched 'Contagion' and was educated by Kate Winslet! Grin

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 17:57

That sounded so ungrateful: sorry.

mumsneedwine · 17/05/2020 18:06

I think whatever we are all doing is enough. We are doing our best. Under really difficult conditions. I just hate the 'well I'm at work so stop moaning'. Yes you are at work with adults who don't do things teenagers and children do. My supermarket DD and my HCA DD both have access to PPE. Might see if they 'borrow' some for me. I am not going back without a mask as I'd never forgive myself if I passed virus to a student.

LolaSmiles · 17/05/2020 18:11

Returning with a mug.

I have spent the last week seething with anger. Gove today was the icing on the cake! I think the government will push on ahead to open June 1st regardless. Too much potential to fudge the numbers to fit their agenda.

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 18:13

DreamingofBrie I would be very grateful - those sound extremely useful top tips!

tadjennyp · 17/05/2020 18:18

Thanks staff . Yes, own drinks in the kitchen, but my HoF dropped me off a lovely bunch of flowers, a card that looks like our Zoom meetings and a bottle of Fernet Branca! Can't complain. 🙂

WhyNotMe40 · 17/05/2020 18:19

Emoji - which bit is upsetting you the most? CakeBrew

cheesecurdsandgravy · 17/05/2020 18:31

Staff room number six! More than I’ve had in my career now 🤣

I’m getting fed up of biscuits and cake though, everyone ok if I crack out a cheese board? It’s an odd choice for a staff room, I know, but, these are odd times...

DreamingofBrie · 17/05/2020 18:33

Gaaaaah, just typed a long post then lost it! I'm going back to my computer after dinner so I'll get the screenshots and put them on your thread specifically for online learning, WhyNot.

Piggy, I work in an independent so we didn't have any choice about live teaching really. I was happy with my offline teaching, post a task with a good online tutorial which someone far more competent than me had put together, worked example for book then online exercise with individual feedback. BUT, that required more self discipline and motivation from the students.

I'm sure my live explanations are nowhere near as good as the videos I was posting, but it's been really nice to be able to talk to the students and address their specific questions. Have done a few Kahoots as well, which they loved. Am very aware though that I am coming from a massive position of privilege and that it can't be the same for every school.

Hope everyone is OK. We've only got a week until half term Flowers.

Piggywaspushed · 17/05/2020 18:37

Cheese board away!

I am watching Brief Encounter for the third time this week.
