So continuing on from our boycott/flowers we need to continue to defend our profession. This is teacher/school staff chat - if you do not fall into that category please start you own thread elsewhere.

Only 2 parents. But still.

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2020 19:06

Glad it's not just me then. DS is in year 8. Dread to think how embarrassing it will be by year 11.

Piggywaspushed · 04/05/2020 19:06

Flowers for you. whynot

Nice flowers, not teachery ones.

cheesecurdsandgravy · 04/05/2020 19:08

Honey, Riga & Emoji once lead a residential in Spain where the only person I had to get the head teacher to ring and talk to about their frankly unreasonable behaviour was their own son Grin I had never, before or since, had to have a parent/SLT give a kid a bollocking down the phone while abroad! You DEFINITELY are not the only ones.

WhyNotMe two is enough to make you feel shit. But, that’s two out of how many? They clearly spend too much time on mumsnet!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 04/05/2020 19:29

So going back we will have

  • some kids in high spec masks
  • some kids in designer masks
  • some kids in disposable masks
  • some kids in no masks at all

Are we going to have

  • school policy on mask design as some with be colourful and glittery whilst others will be demonic
  • provide masks for those who can’t afford them
  • teachers sorting out mask thefts
  • teachers trying to stop mask twanging
  • teachers searching for masks that mummy dearest has spent a fortune on but Simple Simon has left in the lunch hall/changing room/food tech/music/top playground

Thank you.
I don't feel too bad as actually I have been instructed on what work to set, and it turns out the students hadn't seen the helpsheets and helpful links I had attached. But I was the students had said something to me first, or then the parents had come to me first. Especially as I then had typos in my emails due to said 3 yo wailing and clinging to my legs....
Is it too early for alcohol? (I don't normally drink...)

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2020 19:31

I don't think I help much because I find myself massively irritated by homework tasks that don't make sense and go completely against the schools homework policy or worse yet clearly have no learning objective whatsoever and have been randomly plucked from the ether for the purpose of saying, look, I did set them homework! I must learn to mutter more quietly.

I find myself hating parents AND teachers and myself Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 19:31

And who the hell is going to want to sort out the lost property masks without a hazmat suit?! Grin

WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 19:32

TheHoneyBadger - are you me? Grin

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2020 19:32

Definitely not too early for alcohol but will soon be too late if you're working tomorrow so go for it now whilst you can whynot.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 19:35

Can I just say that this thread is bringing back all the nice memories of various threads in Tea Chat before they ruined it.
Thank you everyone FlowersBrewCakeWine

TheHoneyBadger · 04/05/2020 19:35

Grin whynot. I don't know who I am anymore.

Luckily ds and I can shout and clash and then one or the other gets the giggles a few minutes later. Unlike year 9 girls who once they've decided to hate me hate me forever more.

WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 19:35

Ffs I swear I typed Tes out and corrected the autocorrect

WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 19:37

Oh year 9-10 girls always hate me Grin Especially if they are cool and popular.

pinkrocker · 04/05/2020 19:44

Funnily enough, the cheeky ones like me and the well behaved ones look down noses at me, I am obviously a 12yr old boy at heart who still laughs at farts I think it's because I've tried so hard to get the cheeky ones on side before working on the others. Must Try Harder.

More Thanks from me whynot. Very hard with clingy toddlers. I'm not setting work and part time and I've struggled with my 2 yr old's clinginess as well as the 7 yr old at times over this period. I completely understand how horrid this is.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 04/05/2020 20:02

@WhyNotMe40 - lost property is grim most of the time. If a parent wants to go in to find a paper face mask they are most welcome

It was parents who stole hand gel from six classrooms when we had an open morning just before lockdown - bunch of thieves with no care for our children

OP posts:
WhyNotMe40 · 04/05/2020 20:12

Wow 6?! I would say that's shocking, but sadly I'm not surprised.
Thanks Neurotrash. My kids seem to be going in cycles of regression/needy to angry to resigned and back again. However much I understand it, and know how I SHOULD respond, it's still damned hard to get it right sometimes. Flowers back to you

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2020 20:16

Oh gosh yes, teacher guilt directed at own children on top of mummy guilt is the worst!

I'm better this week but I've found it exceptionally draining at times. Toddler going through a massive sleep regression doesn't help (language going through roof though which probably explains it.)

I'd find it especially disheartening to be setting work and getting responses like that. Gin see you on the other thread!

NeurotrashWarrior · 04/05/2020 20:18

Kids were eating it at pit place staff. It had to be removed (was put in during prior norovirus outbreak.)

(they always install them and I mutter that soap is better and so maybe this time management will be better with soap.)

BelleSausage · 05/05/2020 19:41

I see Scotland have decided to take charge of the narrative about schools and out the kibosh on a June return for those students north of —the wall— the border.

I do feel like it might make the government a less likely to start a phased return before September here too 🤷🏻‍♀️

RigaBalsam · 05/05/2020 21:16

Mclean denied seeing the Scottish Science. It must be different to the English Science.

Aren't they all in the same COBR you would think they would communicate or maybe not.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/05/2020 16:10

I’ve just been in school. 8 in the gruop

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 07/05/2020 16:12

Pressed send too soon.,,..

A fight
Someone punched someone
Someone flicked a ruler at someone.
Kids moving into unsafe distance constantly and constantly being told to move
Not enough equipment so it is all shared.

How are schools going to open?
