So continuing on from our boycott/flowers we need to continue to defend our profession. This is teacher/school staff chat - if you do not fall into that category please start you own thread elsewhere.

Hello. May I join? I’m very intrigued by the toffee vodka.

I’m a Reception teacher 👋🏻👋🏻

fuckweasel · 28/04/2020 13:46

Thank you.

Piggywaspushed · 28/04/2020 14:54

Checking in, comrade.

This is interesting as it doesn't feel like a dominant MN worldview:

Britons do not believe the economy and businesses should open if coronavirus is not fully contained, according to a new study.
In an Ipsos Mori poll of more than 28,000 people in 14 countries, Britons were the least likely to believe restarting the economy was the right approach as ministers face continued questions over the UK’s plan for lifting its coronavirus lockdown.
Britons had the strongest views against opening up the economy if the virus is not fully under control, with 70% of those surveyed saying they felt this way.
It comes as a number of British businesses have said they are set to start opening despite the lockdown. High street bakery chain Greggs has told staff it plans to open 20 stores in the Newcastle area from 4 May as part of a “controlled trial”. And firms such as B&Q have reopened their doors to shoppers, while John Lewis has said it hopes to reopen all its shops next month. Burger King, KFC and Pret have also announced they are to reopen some stores for takeaway and delivery

I’m going to sneak this in here and hope that no non-teachers see it but wtf:

Why would they do this on an individual basis? (Twitter user is legit)

They are a great little firm - currently producing sanitizer so grab it quick!

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 28/04/2020 15:21

@MossWalk - you are most welcome. Toffee vodka has become an alternative to tea and coffee!

Ugh Noble is there more info like staggering?

France have been told to wear face covers can you imagine Secondary kids all wearing them?

bananaskinsnomnom · 28/04/2020 15:32

I’m having funny visions of a class of children dressed in balaclavas at school.30 pairs of eyes facing the front and nothing else.

Quite spooky.

Great for getting away with stuff though. The rebels will be in their element.

I’m picturing putting my reception lot into those bubbles that you get at pools for fun? Like a giant hamster ball? They would love that....

pinkrocker · 28/04/2020 15:34

I'm here, marking my place to catch up later! DD (y9) on my laptop doing the immense 10 Tasks Of English and DS (Y7) actually completing maths, yesssssss !
On a different note: wonder where that school on twitter is? and I wonder if the teachers know?

RigaBalsam · 28/04/2020 15:34

Hefin David AM is asking the first questions of the education minister.
He asked Ms Williams when schools may begin to reopen.
“I’m very clear schools will move to a new phase, because already schools are open in many settings,” she said.
“We will move to a new phase when it is safe to do so and when I have advice from the chief scientific officer and the chief medical officer that it is safe to do so.”
She reiterated her message that return to normal school operations is “not imminent”.
Ms Williams said she had not been given a date by advisers.

tadjennyp · 28/04/2020 15:36

Ooh, they are not far from me phlebas Smile I teach in fenland at the moment.

tadjennyp · 28/04/2020 15:39

Apparently there is a free school asking teachers to record one of their zoom lessons and upload it to an SLT folder for Performance management purposes. Angry

Sureitwillbegrand · 28/04/2020 15:53

Thanks for the new post the staff room is keeping me sane. Had a wobble today, DD 's school sent one of those we miss you videos had me in tears this morning, don't know why but I was in bits. Thankfully before the kids were up and dressed!

phlebasconsidered · 28/04/2020 15:53

It's a rare old place, isn't it tadjenny! I had more resources and the general poverty level was better in East London! Lots of nice empty space to dog walk though! I live in the middleof nowhere which I was thankful for until I looked up ambulance response times!

phlebasconsidered · 28/04/2020 15:54

I do think free schools and academies will be a law unto themselves over this; i'm just waiting for my Trust response....

CarrieBlue · 28/04/2020 15:56

My DH has somehow got into a yougov opinion survey. Today all the questions were about easing lockdown and the majority were against easing restrictions. There was also a question about why we’re in this position and (ignoring the 13% who think it’s a conspiracy 🙄) most blame the incompetence of the government - so, silver linings and all that!

ChloeDecker · 28/04/2020 15:59

Whaaaaat!? I really feel for the teaching staff there. They probably have a Chair of Governors like ‘youknowwho’.
Sad

tadjennyp · 28/04/2020 15:59

I live much closer to the ancient university city, but I do love the huge skies and the amount of wildlife you come across on a country walk straight from home. Smile
