Just catching up.

Was too late to comment on the last thread.

But the point about celebs apologizing for the Where's Kate comments, mentioned Sonny Hostin from The View. She absolutely did not apologise, but instead started talking about something else, at most she did a mealy mouthed "I was just talking about stuff". I remember because I watched it. She's a huge Meghan Stan and always took H&Ms side. At least Blake Lively did actually apologise, as sis Kim K and Stephen Colbert.

As to the "pap at school" story, why did no one call the Police at the time? The security or the school itself?
And where are the photos? UK press wouldn't publish them, but other countries would.

Someone on Reddit linked to this, very old communication from Jason Knauf about the International paparazzi trying to get photos of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. It’s on a whole different, and quite shocking, level to what supposedly occurred at the school and a much more dignified request for privacy for their little kids.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2015/aug/14/royal-warning-prince-george-paparazzi-full-text

I'm struck by the sentence about how other childen visiting had been photographed. I read years ago that Catherine held coffee mornings at KP for classmates' parents. How lovely that the children could have friends round like any other child. How sad that grubby individuals made money trying to sell images of it.

IcedPurple · Today 10:30

bluegreygreen · Today 10:25

That old letter also shows how much things have changed in the era of camera phones and social media.
These days, a photo of George in the park might well be taken by someone sitting on the park bench scrolling Instagram or TikTok.

The world of celebrity photography no longer belongs to paparazzi. Celebrities run their own social media accounts (or have staff to do so) and control most of their photographs. Other than for large events, huge groups of paparazzi do not exist in the same way as before.

Yes exactly.

I remember reading an interview with a photographer in LA and he said even there, the heart of celeb culture, there are way fewer of them about. There simply isn't any money in 'pap' photos anymore. That's why, 9 times out of 10, when you see a 'pap' photo of a celebrity walking down the street, it will have been set up by the celebrity themselves.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Today 10:31

Mylovelygreendress · Today 08:27

I can’t see anything about this pap walk on either the DM or BBC websites so looks like interest in HAM is waning which means they will have to stage something a bit more dramatic.

No doubt they will, Mylovelygreendress

Just a set-up of walking to a pub isn't going to move the dial with Ravec, so next time they'll need someone leaping from the bushes into their path Hmm

Yes because now celebs have direct access directly to their fans where they cut out the middleman, they can control the narrative and brand image and dialogue / engage with their fans 24/7 via SM. MSM is just the icing on the cake these days and the aim is always to drive new people / fans to their own SM platforms so that they can monetise this interest.

I'm taking MIL to the Health Centre for her flu jab then we'll have a cappuccino in the supermarket cafe before she does her grocery shopping

Went for mine at 8am and the queue was down the street. Doctor chirped at me 'you can have the covid as well, your age qualifies you.'

Gee, thanks for reminding me.

And MIL will be impeccably dressed in M&S as she regards a flu jab as a 'medical appointment'

I rolled up in my best 'just crawled out of bed' chic.

Off topic, but are people having (or have had) the pneumonia jab as well?

"The pneumococcal (pneumonia) vaccine protects against serious bacterial infections like pneumonia, meningitis, and sepsis. 1]
Who Should Get It

  • Babies: Routine schedule includes a dose at 16 weeks and a booster at 1 year. 1]
  • Adults aged 65 and over: A single lifetime dose is recommended. 1]
  • High-risk individuals: Anyone with chronic heart, lung, kidney, or liver disease, diabetes, a compromised immune system, or asplenia"

I don't know why GP practices send out invitations for a Flu jab but don't advertise the pneumonia jab.

Most slebs do all that exposure to drive attention towards their commercial activities - a book, film, product launch etc - but these two clowns just hand the media free click bait for the media to make ££££ whilst none of that attention can be directed anywhere to generate a revenue stream for them both.

Also had a thought have they chosen to never ever take their children out to eat etc?

I just wonder when the children will be allowed a taste of normal life outside gated/walled mansions.

From the Jason Knauf letter

"The duke and duchess are of course very fortunate to have private homes where photographers cannot capture images of their children. But they feel strongly that both Prince George and Princess Charlotte should not grow up exclusively behind palace gates and in walled gardens. They want both children to be free to play in public and semi-public spaces with other children without being photographed."

I think a trip to a pub, perhaps after a country walk, is very much a part of many childhood for many children, and a treat. Or a chance to pop into a shop to buy some sweets, I recall back in the day Diana would take W&H to Tetbury to spend pocket money. What about public events like horse trials and polo - other Royal children regularly get to go to these, often meeting up with some of their cousins and having fun. Or a trip to the theatre. Or even Church, maybe a carol service.

They can't keep the children hidden away forever and I'd say they are now of an age where it's not only getting a bit ridiculous but is also adversely impacting their childhood.

That's how a lot of people walk who spent a lot of time on horseback. It gives you bandy legs. Just saying ...

This is true. Thank you for reminding me. But it was rather the way his leg is held out to the side that made me think he's got a continence issue.

There was a photo a few years ago of C and W plus DC having lunch in a beer garden .

The Waleses are regularly spotted around Holt and other chichi North Norfolk places in the summer when they're at Anmer Hall. As when C&W lived in Anglesey, it's something of a point of pride for locals not to bother them.

And when William becomes King, Harry will be painted as his loser brother. When he could have been by his side, supporting him. It would have been a much easier life too…

Indeed. H is like a man who’s had a thrill-seeking episode that went wrong (e.g. an affair or, oooh, selling out his family), and is in the ‘FO’ part of ‘FAFO’. People are pissed off with him, he’s ashamed deep down but that makes him furious as it hurts him, so he’ll keep upping the ante with more and more impulsive and risky behaviour to stave off his inner feelings, dressing it up with pompous words as statecraft and ‘critique’ of the royal family.

I’m pretty sure even the once Sussex-friendly media are laughing at him by this point. Tom Sykes and Charlotte Griffiths certainly are.

All this, because in thirty years of expensive therapy, no-one dealt with an adolescent’s mild depression and boredom at school properly, but fed it instead with privileges.

Purplebunnie · Today 11:34

In years past The Falkland Arms had a very antiquated ladies loo which took a bit of persuasion and luck to flush. To access one went out the front door of the pub, past if I remember the village shop or what later became the village shop, and if I remember another cottage and then up a path to a cottage door. On our last visit you could now access ladies from inside the pub.

Sorry for the derail, it took me back to when I lived thereabouts, many years ago.

AlexandraCarrington · Today 11:36

Of course those photos are staged. The two of them aren't even trying to look natural. H even looks as if he's not sure where he is in a couple of them.

Off topic, but are people having (or have had) the pneumonia jab as well?

I had it. I'd heard of it because an older friend mentioned having had it. Then when I was at the gp for something, can't recall what, maybe a flu jab, the nurse asked if I'd like the pneumonia jab too, so I had it. Didn't have any particular reaction.

The worst reactions I had were when I had flu and covid jabs together, and when I had the shingles jab. But I was always going to have the shingles jab. A friend had a very nasty dose of shingles before she was eligible for the jab, and she kept saying I must get it as soon as I was eligible.

meercat23 · Today 11:42

We have had the shingles, pneumonia and always take the covid and flu jabs being of an age where any of those could ne very nasty. Luckily we have never had bad reactions to any of them. I hope that is not speaking too soon as this years jabs are booked for next week!😯

JoanChitty · Today 11:42

@ShamedBySiri Yes I’ve had the pneumonia jab . I was given it last year as I’m a type 1 diabetic. I’ve also had pneumonia and pleurisy and it was painful and horrible!
I will receiving my flu jab this week along with Mr Chitty and we will not be issuing any further statements on this subject!

"If she wanted to I bet she has a number of stories the family wouldn't want released to the public, but the question is would she betray confidences like that. I'm not sure she would."

What confidences could she betray? That the Queen told fart jokes? That Philip walked around in his pyjamas for half the day?

I think there are 2 points of contention between AK and KC

QEII had promised her use of her home in Windsor for life - but KC hustled her off to Derbyshire months later

QEII granted AK the unusual blessing to write a book after her death - but KC rescinded permission.

AK's book The Other Side of the Coin was interesting, but totally inoffensive. I wonder what KC thought she might have included in a later book.

Do you think he's ashamed deep down ?

I hope he is. I think he’s got himself boxed in a corner and doesn’t know how to get out of it. He could try to make a heartfelt apology, and then lay low for a considerable length of time, but I think her indoors wouldn’t like that! Perhaps he’s realised that actions do have consequences and there is no one to clean up after him. Meghan does not want him to reconcile with his family as then she will not have as strong a hold on him and where does that leave her?
Everything she has attempted has been a disaster, she’s neither use or ornament, so is he, but he does have the upper hand here as he’s on home ground and does for the moment have some fragile connections, but for how long?

It was actually my pharmacist who reminded me to have it a couple of years ago when they did my flu jab. I have the shingles one as well. What with having blood tests every 3 months for chemo medication checks and flu/covid jabs I'm just a walking dartboard for the NHS these days.

I'm very curious about this. I never saw the ad on ebay (and can't see it now) but saw Tom Sykes laughing about it on one of his podcasts. Now, I'm a 2nd-hand bookseller on ebay (in Australia) and the ad sounded waaay over the top for any serious dealer to have written. Also, you don't offer to provide provenance of a signature or anything else AFTER you've been paid and the item has been received by the buyer. So there's that.

But you can't just magic up an ebay account with a history and a 100% seller rating. Megs couldn't have managed that!

And how would the seller have got their hands on it anyway? I'm guessing it's simply a fake dedication/signature (good rip of her handwriting though) and the media attention forced the otherwise genuine seller to pull the ad. Still, most genuine book dealers wouldn't dream of pulling a stunt like this.

🤔🤔

I’ve been involved in selling books online for nearly 20 years, my instincts tell me that the listing looked genuine.
It gave pretty extensive descriptions of the condition and damage using terminology used in the secondhand book trade about the bumping, rubbing, DJ and spine etc. It wasn’t written by a layman, but I guess it is possible the seller’s page was hacked.
The condition was only really fair for a book of this age, I’m not convinced a casual fraudster would have had the guile to deliberately age a book in this way - although a professional might have.
Although the price was excessive - the price was odd ending a high value book in 99p but this is the pricing convention used by the seller for their other books. I’m not sure they are a particularly experienced or specialist seller maybe they were just hoping for extra traffic to their selling page - they seem to specialise in signed modern first editions. It was an odd choice to put on their eBay page, the more obvious choice would have been to pass on to a specialist seller or an auction house.
I can imagine that they accidentally acquired the book as a job lot with others, sold on to them without anyone realising what the inscription said at the time. That may explain the damaged condition of the book; outsized and boxed up with normal sized books it would have got bashed about a bit.
I can see the journey of this book from a clear out of Frogmore when Eugenie moved, maybe then stored at her parents house at Royal Lodge for a while before being cleared out when AMB and Fergie left. Possibly sold on with other gifted lower value first editions.
i expect there has been quite a furere behind the scenes.
