Possibly caught between a rock and a hard place. Refused permission? They would have eloped and told the story of the RF racism which stopped their marriage. They also know how volatile Harry was, maybe they thought with marriage and a good role, they'd settle down and be good.

I assume that’s the circumstances in which QEII said (reportedly), ‘then I suppose I’ll have to say yes’ or something along those lines?

I’m still surprised that the powerful institution couldn’t scare off such a low-bit chancer, though. My gran could have done better than that in between a hair appointment and the butcher’s shop.

Meghan is still using the strategies that worked to get her attention as a D-list celeb... setting up pap strolls in car parks or "date nights" arriving/leaving restaurants

She has done this a lot since she moved back to the US - often released to grab attention from the RF events OR Harry's solo events that she wasn't invited to Amazing how often her security makes her walk right across the car park/along the pavement 😉😉😉

Her tiktok nickname was carparkle at one point she was doing it so often

Well. I have heard gossip that she named her price.
It was very high...
Maybe just rumour 🤔?

Do you remember all the frothing on here from Sussex Squaddies about how awful it was that they had "deliberately" picked Archie's birthday for the Coronation. That it was a slight against him and they should have picked a different date for hundreds of World leaders and dignitaries to work around.

....which had to be decided by Parliament!
Talk about self absorbed.

On the question of taking his time/having a long engagement, M could point out that time wasn't on their side - H wanted children and M was getting into her late 30s.

Speculating that another poster said v. Low said m didn't want a long engagement. If the queen was aware of Harry's tantrum following W warning to slow down I'm guessing she felt she didn't have much of an option.

You would think they could see some chancer off. It depends on the family member and if they are even listening especially as he's such a petulant individual. She worked at speed I think v.low or Tom Bradbury (?) Mentioned the speed at which she escalated the relationship.

One of the key red flags in abusive relationships is the speed at which they develop.

Personally no, I never read or watch any of these 'royal experts'. I don't feel I've missed out on anything thus far!

Yeah, you probably haven't missed anything!

I sometimes fall asleep listening to documentaries on Princess Anne.

I wonder if the short exchange between H and the late Queen was him saying that M was pregnant hence her response ?
Or is that a conspiracy theory too far ?

https://www.express.co.uk/news/royal/2118511/prince-harry-queen-elizabeth-baffling-reply/amp

If HM thought M was pregnant there’d have been no formal engagement, formal interview, formal announcement, six month engagement and royal chapel wedding. It would have been ‘crack on asap’ and we’ll pay for a decent but discreet day.

And yet he worries about the Wales DC !!

That's performative though. I doubt he gives a tuppenny damn about them. He hardly knows them and is vicious about their parents. More hypocrisy dressed as 'look how caring I am'.

How revolting that he wrote about his private conversation with the late Queen about this. I didn't know this.
As we would say in Scotland " he would sell his Granny" .

I mean in Spare, he pretty much did, did he not?

I like according to Taz and Lost Beyond Pluto, the latter is a very smart Australian lawyer who has also served in the military, you should seek her out!

I'm never going to be able to keep up with you people. It's 1.45am here in Australia and I need to go to bed. But just quickly, do any of you watch the following royal shows/reporters on youtube? I'll refrain from providing my opinions, I'd prefer to hear yours?

Tom Sykes
Mark Dolan
Kinsey Schofield
Palace Confidential
Royals Uncensored
Robert Jobson

Nigh night X

I watch Palace Confidential; it's the Daily Mail's Royal show, and seems to stick to the same editorial guidelines as the newspaper (i.e. stricter than general YouTube channels).
They are clear in their discussion about what is fact and what is speculation. I also like that they give a decent amount of time to the work that the Duchess of Edinburgh does.
It's the only one I watch regularly.

I watched the first couple of episodes of Royals Uncensored when Jo Elvin moved from Palace Confidential to host it, because I thought she was a good host.
It's a different set-up, with guests, but also I think a difference in editorial guidelines - it seemed more sensationalised to me, with content that I don't think would have been allowed in PC, and I stopped watching half way through.

Tom Sykes - I've watched a single 10 minute update video once. It was OK. I got his free Substack emails for about 6 months to see what he said but stopped when they were flooding my inbox and he suggested that RAVEC had some say in IPP status.

Robert Jobson I've seen commenting a couple of times on the Telegraph's Daily T royal podcast - I've just signed up to his emails to see what he says.

Mark Dolan I haven't seen.

Kinsey Schofield I've watched a couple with Scott Rouse (Behaviour Panel guy) - but mainly because I was watching him. She waffles.

I did watch Shauna (Vintage Read) a few times a while ago - before she started hosting Lownie regularly. She was fine then, but I don't know what she is like now.
She was being very supportive of Charles Spencer (and virulently anti KCIII) on Twitter just after Swan Song was published. I asked a few questions and pointed out a couple of facts and managed to get myself blocked (a first anywhere!).

Thank you, so much! It was terrible. I was told every child there had permission from their parents. That doesn't mean much, when your kid can barely make it down to the food court, that's a treat in itself. HAM were in the foyer next to the food court with people wandering past, no masks, entrance clogged with HAMs staffers. When we saw one of our doctors the following week he was furious about it but he'd had no say in the matter.

Agreed, you'd think any serious charity org would think twice about what positive impact HAM could possibly have given their past behaviour. Grrrrrrrr.

The Birmingham school had permission from parents too, but unless there is a detailed explanation of what is going to happen, the permission has little meaning.

My nephew and his girlfriend have recently returned from 18 months in Melbourne as resident doctors so I feel an affection for Melbourne despite having been there 😊

It was very caring that the hamlets meanwhile were moved to two new schools in a fortnight and that very hands on dad who supported them by going back across the Atlantic to do half a talk and fall out of a plane. Glass houses, Harry!

Speculation I know, guess H may well have told M of what W had said, and if she manipulated H to begin to see W as being against him. Classic behaviour I've seen in many coercive relationships.

If the plan as (I think it was V Low said) was always to leave the RF then a long engagement wouldn't serve, because she'd be doing all this learning about the RF that she wasn't going to need and wasting time when they could be setting up their separate life. And a long engagement would give the RF to get better acquainted with her and start asking questions about her family.

Exactly, MrsDanvers. They spin it as having to leave, whereas IMO Meghan always intended to, and the many dramas were manufactured to

And by 'what was always obvious', @IdaGlossop, I meant Meghan being a venal, manipulative, two bit grifter. For me at least the fakery shone out of every pore, but it's not something anyone wanted to hear at the time

My thoughts drifted....consider for a moment Meghan on Strictly? While highly unlikely can you imagine the carnage

I thought you must mean that @Puzzledandpissedoff. Sadly, I did not spot it and feel foolish for not having done so. Shortly after the wedding, which I watched with my single brain cell, I thought: 'Such love. Such tenderness.' Then I heard mutterings about all her guests being celebs and only her mum a relation, and shrugged in puzzlement, my single brain cell asserting itself again.

Puzzledandpissedoff · Yesterday 18:32

I think I've mentioned this before, @IdaGlossop, but there's nothing to feel silly about in changing your mind and being honest enough to say so; better, surely, than sticking to a position no matter how untenable it gets

And I pressed enter too soon on my last post ... what I meant to suggest was that, rather than being forced to leave, they invented various dramas to "justify" what Meghan intended to do all along

Maybe because she couldn't allow Princess Margaret to marry the man she loved, but not more than the royal title, etc, she didn't want to stop another marriage. I know fundamentally it was Princess Margaret's choice, but I'm sure there would have been a way.

The Queen gave Margaret her blessing and once Margaret was 25 she didn’t need The Queens permission.
What she did need was permission from the government who would not countenance Margaret marrying a divorced man AND retaining her title, her allowance from the civil list and her position in theLOS and the positions of future children .
Margaret had been apart from Townsend for nearly two years by this point and wasn’t quite in love enough with this older, divorced man anymore to warrant giving up her HRH and being a Princess.
To be blunt, She loved her HRH and title more than she loved him.
In her statement when she announced she wouldn’t be marrying him she said how she was “mindful of the churches teachings” - she wasn’t mindful when she was in the middle of her passionate affair with him.

You have mentioned this before @puzzledandpissedoff and I appreciate it.

Of course they weren't forced to leave. QEII had handed them the first and second most senior roles in her beloved Queen's Commonwealth Trust, the creation she saw as the biggest achievement of her reign. That wasn't a good decision because under different circumstances, M would have enticed H to join her in creating a hostile discourse against it being an exemplar of white-privileged post-colonialism (and she would have had a point).

Great Tew area is swarming with celebs, the pub will have served much more famous and important people. But they will no doubt have been very discrete - it’s likely that the details about what they had to eat will have come from HaM themselves .

The pie Harry had looks like it was produced. I’d have sent it back.
